Korean Tapas Restaurant. Inspired by traditional Korean cuisine...not traditional Korean cuisine.

The Korean word ‘Bansang’ refers to the style of table setting for the kings and nobles of the Joseon, a Korean dynastic kingdom that prospered for more than five centuries. At Bansang, we wish to serve all of our guests with the same care and sincerity as the chefs did for their royalty in those times past.

Korean fare is built around enjoying various distinctive types of dishes simultaneously rather than in separate courses, as this allows every person to experience continuously changing flavor combinations unique to Korean culture. Our guests can expect a modern, creative perspective on this traditional style of Korean cuisine.

    Went to this restaurant based on availability for our group size of 9. Came here thinking it was going to be authentic Korean. Unfortunately, I really can’t think of anything that was Korean other than some of the spices they used and the soju. Portions were quite small, tasty but small. They did have a good selection of veg options for our not meat eaters, which was good. I believe the bill came out to being over $100 per person and no one came out of the restaurant saying they were full. So in summary, good but for the cost, I would look at other places first.

    Chef's counter seating only means that you are seated between a high wall stacked with dishes--no opportunity for observing or interacting with the chefs. Our server was helpful with recommendations. The uni scallop toast was worth the splurge and rich enough to share, the tuna tartare was delicious, my wife liked the sunchoke & truffle (I thought it was a bit underwhelming). The jeju salad was delightfully refreshing, but we got deliciously sliced cherries instead of the jeju hallabong. The miso marinated pork and Jang cream pasta were both outstanding. The pasta had a smokiness to it that made it very unique and tasty but our server couldn't figure out the source of the smokiness. For desert we had the pear sorbet (very nice) and banana milk ice cream (good). Cocktails (sochu based) and sochu paired nicely. We will be back!

    amazing place- all the food had great attention to detail and complexity. the service was also 10/10. the cod and galbi were highlights.

    We loved it. The wild mushroom starter and the beef tartar starter were delicious. And the black cod main course was heavenly. Service was very helpful and attentive.

    Amazing food, can’t recommend it enough. Had the tuna tatare (delicious in a ponzu sauce w cheese on top), beef tatare, rice cakes with chorizo (highly recommended and eat it all when it first comes out because that’s when the texture’s best) and chicken baos for a starter. For the main we had the pork and pasta. The pork was so soft and flavourful and the pasta was with a rich, deep umami sauce.

    We thought everything about the meal was sensational. The food was creative, cooked beautifully, and incredibly well-seasoned. The service was warm, fun, and informative. Our only small critique was that the meal proceeded a bit too quickly. Would've loved our dishes spaced out over an hour rather than 30 minutes. But we were blown away and can't wait to return.

    If you're on the hunt for delicious, top-notch Korean food in the city, this place is a must-visit. Every dish we tried was outstanding, with each ingredient thoughtfully selected and perfectly balanced. We'll definitely be coming back. As someone who recently moved from LA and missed the vibrant Korean food scene of Koreatown, Bansang gave me hope for Korean dining in SF. A huge thanks to both Chef Min and Chef Lim—I deeply respect and appreciate their culinary artistry and the philosophy behind their exquisite creations.
