Bamboo-Mat is a Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant based in Leyton serving fresh sushi, nikkei sharing plates and cocktails. Run by chef Victor Rosca formerly of Sushisamba,Roka and Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsey and his business partner Denis Gobjila ex of Chotto Matte. Bamboo Mat brings together their combined years of experience with a fresh perspective on Nikkei cuisine. Bamboo-Mat adds another food dimension to the already vibrant culture that is emerging in this part of London.

The food was amazing, everyone well prepared and well presented, altho the white rice tasted unrinsed and not fresh/reheated. The cocktails were ok. Had a small issue during the payment, which was done in cash, I counted the notes in front of the server, but then took it away and returned asking if I could top up cuz there was some small amount missing. I'm sure I gave even extra and if this is to happen, maybe she should have double checked the notes in front of me/while I was counting.

Pleasantly decorated restaurant for bottomless brunch. Great value for money. Our very nice server was very attentive, described every dish and topped up out wine regularly. More food than we could eat between 2 of us but all delicious. Would def recommend bottomless brunch

First visit to Bamboo Mat . Nice atmosphere , friendly service and an interesting menu. Starters and mains were very tasty with quality produce well presented. Drinks were reasonably priced too.

Food wasn’t great. Definitely did not feel worth the price. Was not very clear on website and in the restaurant on the price of bottomless. Not clear that drinks were extra.

What a lovely oasis in the heart of Stratford. Sitting outside with great food and lovely cocktails. The octopus was a real treat.

Service started well and went down-hill towards the end when a few of the seconds took ages and then one was missing. The music was too loud and fast paced sometimes. Not the kind of music for a nice relaxed Sunday family lunch. We found ourselves having to raise our voices and eating faster. Having said that, the food was superb! Hopefully they will take this feedback on board and create a more suitable ambiance with their music and volume.

The food was exquisite and the portions were great. Walked out there with a full belly! On top of that, the bar tender was very catering to our drink order.

Found this gem after looking at Google reviews. Quiet location, less than 5 min from train station. Food wonderful, not expensive, cocktails good value for London. Attentive staff, great ambience. Will def return if ever this way

We had a fabulous dinner at Bamboo-Mat. Not only was the food creative, delicious, and beautifully presented, the service was first rate. Jay, Engi and their colleagues were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We highly recommend the unagi, spicy tuna, and hot hamachi rolls. The sashimi was melt on your mouth delicious too. We are excited to find such a delightful and different restaurant in Stratford’s East Village. It well worth seeking this restaurant out. Get away fromthe chains in the mall and treat yourself to something different.

Food was decent, but we missed a better advice or recommendations on the menu. Service was very slow and many several times we ran out of drinks. It was my birthday so a nice touch would have been appreciated. It was good to try it but I am not sure I will repeat the experience

Great restaurant with delicious food. We ate at their restaurant in Leyton last year and have been excited to try their new restaurant. It didn’t disappoint. Will be back and will bring more people next time…

We had a lovely time at Bamboo Mat, great service, delicious food with a great balance of flavours and artsy/modern interior. I would suggest for the tasting menu to include a bowl of rice to go with the main, it’s nice to have the main with some rice. We will be returning very soon. Keep up the great work chef and team.

Excellent food but service was disjointed. The sides came out five minutes after the mains. Also long wait to get drinks and take order once seated. Lots of people waiting to be served, looking longingly towards the waiters/waitresses.

Second visit and just as good as the first. Food is delicious, great service and it's a really fair price for what you get,. especially at the moment with so many restaurants charging high prices for rubbish food. Well done Bamboo Mat.

We were early diners so the restaurant was very quiet. They had music on quite loudly but when we asked them to turn it down, they turned it off for the rest of the time that we were there. It could be because the restaurant wasn't busy, but there was no pressure on us to order or, when we had finished, to leave. And there was no hint that they minded that we didn't have loads of drinks or loads of food. Really nice place with really helpful staff. AND there was a clean, working accessible toilet :-)

Highly recommended and good value. Enjoyed a sea bass ceviche and a salmon teriyaki. There are some adventurous items on the menu as well e.g. octopus with lentil puree which was very tasty. Also enjoyed the best glass of gewürztraminer I have ever had in a restaurant (a honeyed example) which was a very pleasant surprise. Background music needs turning down a bit, as I struggled to hear the waitress!
