It was lovely but heartbreaking because we were the last seating. Such a magical place with terrific menu, design, ambiance and staff. We will miss it and hope the folks who created and maintained it in its heyday will return with something new and just as wonderful.

This place used to be fantastic. The lasagna was what dreams were made of. We were so sad to hear of their closing so booked a reservation for my fiancé’s birthday. The menu was completely different, food lacked flavor (a table next to us also had to request salt and pepper to add flavor) and they ran out of dessert. Nothing special to acknowledge his birthday. All around super disappointing and absolutely not worth the price. We’ll always miss the original Baia.

2 days before closing - poor experience overall, but not surprised. Kitchen out of most items. Took FOREVER for food to come out. Poor wait staff. OVerall disappointing experience but knowing the place was closing, I understand it. VERY disappointed this place is closing. It's a go to spot and one of the best vegan restaurants in the city. Great location. Great date spot. Great food. Really sad.

Baia was my go-to restaurant when I attended any events in the Civic Center area -- concerts and City Arts&Lectures programs. I am lactose-intolerant so I appreciated knowing I could order anything on the menu.

BAIA is one of our favorite restaurants. It's so disappointing to hear it is closing. Even our non-vegan friends love to visit before the opera or ballet. This is heartbreaking - we've had so many family events here - grad, birthday, anniversaries. It will be sorely missed. We will be going again because we want to get in one last dinner!

This has always been a favorite restaurant - but last night was disappointing. The pizza was so spicy it was not edible; the cannelloni was a tasteless blob. Appetizers were great but for the price it should all have been great. I think the impending closure affected the effort put into the cooking. A sad way to part…

Service was great. Food was ok. Desserts were all different than before. Must have lost their previous pastry chef. We had arancini, the bread app, and Caesar to start (all very good) the entrees missed the mark on all - lasagna, truffle gnocchi, potato pizza and margarita pizza. Desserts were the worst we had ever had. It was unfortunate experience but had gift cards to use up before they closed. Managers don’t have access to gift cards which is crazy to me. Especially with using toast. Toast makes it so easy.

Baia is closing in two weeks. Food was good but not great. They had no whipped cream on hand for the Irish coffees (It was St. Patrick's day)and a couple of the employees told us the owner is not paying them any severance pay. 🥲

Great option for vegans near civic center! They have gf options and a great bar. Open and fun venue. I’ve been before and prefer upstairs. Service needs to be improved but feels like they were understaffed.

This place was fabulous! Had a very nice time. Got some Italian rice balls and brussel sprouts as appetizers and shared a pizza, we each got two drinks a piece which drove up the bill a lot, unnecessarily, though their cocktails are unique the beer doesn't need to be $12. It was a big empty restaurant when I arrived and I was seated in the back in the dark behind a staircase and the acoustics made it hard to hear anything else, but I would go back.

I would go back again for the epic service and gorgeous ambiance. The food was good, but not amazing. The last time we went 6 months ago the food was incredible so I’m going to try again in the hopes that it was just an off night.

This place had great Italian food for it being vegan. The drinks were great and paired with the food nicely. As a group of seven people, the appetizers were enough for each of us try. Definitely give this place a try!

Food as pretty average. Butter brussel sprouts. Too many cacao nibs in ice cream rendering it bitter.. Great ambiance and great staff. Fun place.

Just meh. The spicy pizza WAS exceptional but the lasagna was basically noodles and refried beans. Not good at all. No creativity in the ingredients. Vegan at its worst. Rated higher bc the pizza was so good. Not as good as Rad Radish but if I hadn't had that as comparison I would have thought this one was even better.

This restaurant was a total disaster for us the food the Caesar salad was good, but the entrée the mushroom was terrible. It was so difficult to cut. I could not cut it. It was tough and it was an edible. The noise level was extreme, my friend and I could not hear each other talking in there, there were not many choices on the menu for people who do not eat pasta. It was a lot of money and it was not worth it my friend, and I were very very disappointed. I would never go back again.

Got the sense that nobody really likes working there. And honestly it didn't look like people were enjoying dining there, either. Cocktail list was interesting, but not well balanced; they leaned sweet & syrupy. Our salad was excellent, as was our margarita pizza, but the hen of the woods mushroom dish so bizarrely disgusting that we didn't eat it at all. And our server didn't ask us about the uneaten dish, so I'm telling you here to probably stay away from that one. It's like they tried to approximate lamb meatballs with breaded and fatted mushrooms. A shame for mushrooms. That said, it's a convenient location, and could be much worse!

We tried, but the food is below mediocre. This space was almost sacred when Tracy de Jardiniere tab it. So very sad to see it degenerate. It’s not that it’s vegetarian, but it’s mostly just bad food. I would go bad for our waitress Lisa and the smiling and attentive waiters. Sorry, I wanted to like it but….Tracy come back!!

Heard this place is going/gone out of business I cannot say I’m surprised by this Overpriced My chick pea app was so dry, unedible My pasta had nice flavor once you got past all the overpowering Salt! I would not have returned anyway

I guess any meal in a restaurant in SF these days is going to cost around $100. At BAIA last night we had one salad, one appetizer, one main course, one dessert, one cup of coffee. Bill = $90. With tip, over $100. We chose BAIA for its location as much as anything, right at the Opera House. The food itself was quite good, and the service accommodating. For example, the server agreed to serve our salad after the main course, which is when we almost always have it. In spite of getting there early, we ended up feeling a bit rushed because our dessert & coffee took a while to get to us. Would we dine there again? Maybe, because of proximity.

BAIA has always been good before but this was not. The salad was overdressed and not fresh, the coffees were tepid and no one liked their lunch. It was remarkably disappointing.

Nice quiet place in a great location - close to art performances venues. The staff is very friendly. The food is good but lacks variety. Went there at 11:30 and were only offered a very short brunch list.

For a pre-concert dinner, we arrived 5 minutes before our reservation time and then waited 15 minutes before being seated. Entrees were very disappointing; the cannelloni had no flavor, and the lasagna was the worst I've ever experienced -- it appeared to have been kept in the oven much, much longer than it should have been. overall, disappointed.

Service was very slow from the front of house perspective. Slow to take orders, orders not getting into the system, drinks delayed. Once the food got to the table it was really good, well presented and prepared. This is the second time within 2 months that I had the experience of poor service. The people at the table next to us also had similar experiences in the past. They need more staff.

Negligent. Barely any service. Had to leave the table and go to the bar to order drinks. Rarely saw the waitress. Had to wave my arm to catch the eye of the waitress to order drinks or food. Nasty bitter dressing on the salad. Pizza dough good. Sauce on top okay but not really tasty. Only thing useful is that it’s across from Davies Symphony Hall. Absinthe or Hayes Street Grill serves more interesting dishes.

Baia is a good spot for vegan food but you can’t go here again and again because there’s no variety in the menu. We had a table reserved for an hour before closing time so most of the restaurant was empty, yet we got a table in the corner right next to the bathroom. The food was average not worth the price. Drinks are great. Overall a one time visit

Delicious food and outstanding service, The portions were very small, so relatively expensive, but by the time we’d shared three dishes, we were comfortably full. Upstairs was somewhat quieter, but there was a lively buzz in a cozy setting.
