Bacalar is a neighborhood restaurant inspired by the Yucatan Peninsula region of Mexico. Located on Lady Bird Lake in Austin’s Rainey Street Historic District, the restaurant was created by Bravo Top Chef Winner, Chef/Partner Gabe Erales and the team at Urbanspace Hospitality. Our thoughtfully-designed space is an immersive experience inspired by nature, accompanied by a menu that highlights the nuances of the diverse global influences of the Yucatan region. We welcome you and your family of all ages for a relaxed and fun dining experience of unique Mexican flavors. Our covered patio encompasses views of the newly renovated Lady Bird Lake trail activation directly across from the restaurant.

Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are welcomed any day of the week (closed Mondays).

Wow! Really beautiful space with strong, regional fresh flavors. We all shared our dishes to great delight. I highly recommend the bib salad, and the drum, which was cooked to perfection. Subtle delicate flavors and textures paired with exquisite mouth feel and explosive sauces made this a meal you don’t want to miss; a true culinary experience. Loved everything!

40 min wait to get a table with a reservation. App never came. Duck was really bad. Overall bad experience. Was much better in the past.

Food was very good but service was terrible. They were short staffed. It took 20 minutes to get a waiter to our table.

From the moment we walked in until the time we left, the staff at Bacalar made our third date an incredible experience. As a semi-regular, I was warmly greeted, and my date and I received the royal treatment, which made the evening extra special. Pete was blown away by the exquisite taste of the food and the outstanding service. Special thanks to Israel, Sarai, Abdiel and of course GM Jose, Chef Gabe, and the rest of the staff for making us feel like royalty! Xxx
