Bacalar is a neighborhood restaurant inspired by the Yucatan Peninsula region of Mexico. Located on Lady Bird Lake in Austin’s Rainey Street Historic District, the restaurant was created by Bravo Top Chef Winner, Chef/Partner Gabe Erales and the team at Urbanspace Hospitality. Our thoughtfully-designed space is an immersive experience inspired by nature, accompanied by a menu that highlights the nuances of the diverse global influences of the Yucatan region. We welcome you and your family of all ages for a relaxed and fun dining experience of unique Mexican flavors. Our covered patio encompasses views of the newly renovated Lady Bird Lake trail activation directly across from the restaurant.

Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are welcomed any day of the week (closed Mondays).

We'll be serving a 5 course meal while Bob shares his love and knowledge of flavorful food ingredients. Moromi was founded by Bob Florence, James Wayman, and Debbi Michiko Florence, who teamed up to create handcrafted soy sauces, miso, and hot sauces based on traditional fermentation techniques using koji and a natural microbiome to transform a variety of local ingredients into unique sauces, seasonings, and condiments. In 2010 he started as a line cook and later he staged at renowned establishments like Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Eleven Madison Park, and Noma's pop-up restaurant in Tulum, MX in 2017. In 2018 Kaelin served as a Chef Consultant at the Michelin-starred Oxomoco. After that he opened La Calenda for renowned Chef Thomas Keller.     Tried this restaurant for the first time, although the ambience, Service and location was great. My husband and I did not care for the food or the drinks. We only had one drink, tequila base and it made me extremely dizzy and got a bad headache the next day. And the food was very heavy, The presentation was nice but I think quality was not the best.

    Well done! Service is spot on. The kitchen appears to be running like a well-oiled machine. A vibrant atmosphere with well chosen EDM playlists. We had an excellent meal with professional guidance through the menu by our server. I can certainly recommend Bacalar for an exceptional culinary journey around the Yucatán. —Maxwell

    Such a lovely experience – the cocktails, the food and the vibe were all perfect for a night out. Some of our favorite dishes were the Sikil Pak & Guacamole, the Scallop & Blue Fin Tuna, the Oyster Mushroom Panucho**, and the Black Filet Cod.
