At Babette, the husband and wife team of Joan Ellis and Patrick Hooker, are in the kitchen preparing each plate to ensure that their vision and taste profile are translated to each diner. The attention to detail are evident in not only the food they make but also the ambience they have created. The interior of the restaurant is natural brick and the couple have chosen a rich color palette of deep blues and greens for the walls. An elegant chandelier hangs over a natural wood backed booth providing both a cozy and elegant feel to the room. Outside on the spacious patio, a magnificent redwood tree provides natural shade to the built in seating area and plants are abundant creating a lush, garden setting.
Live music Brunches, New York style Pizza, unique Entrees and our famous Sicilian Lemon Almond Pistachio Cake are just a taste of what you will find at Babette. Warm and knowledgeable staff will make you feel like part of the family.

Babette Large Party Experience
Plusieurs dates disponibles
For parties between 10-20 people, we offer a Large Party Prix Fixe Menu: A multi-course, family style experience which features dishes from our seasonal menu, and is the best way to dine at Babette with a larger group. We consider anything over 20 to be a full by-out and you will need to speak with us directly for details. Our large Prix Fixe Menus are priced separately for either Brunch or Dinner. Brunch- $35 per person (beverages, tax and gratuity not included) Dinner- $50 per person includes dessert (beverages, tax and gratuity not included) Please note: the entire group must participate. Where possible, we will accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies, and of course, you are welcome to add on extra dishes from our menu.

Our brunch was lovely, but we got off to a rocky start. They wanted to put the four of us in a line at a counter on the wall, not at all a nice way to have a conversation. They agreed to move us. Then one of our chairs appeared to have water on it. Luckily, we started to wipe it off and realized it was oil, on the seat and the back. We swapped it with a chair that was next to the wall, but the staff never did anything about the dirty chair. I really hope it wasn’t given to another table because that oil would have ruined clothes

We are glad our staff was able to move you to a better table on a brunch day where we were fully booked. Thank you for informing us of the oily chair through Opentable. I only hope in the future if you come across such a situation you alert the server immediately. We strive to provide the best service possible with a very small crew so not every detail gets caught by them. We do hope you will try us again in the future. Best, Patrick

Went for brunch, sat outside on the patio. Delicious, blueberry ricotta, lemon pancakes are amazing. Four of us. Two bloody Mary’s. Yummy. $180.00. They include 18% relativity, I’m a very good tipper and don’t have a problem with tipping, but I always bugs me just a tad when it’s put on the check. I don’t know…. I might just be getting old? Two orders of pancakes were $44. That doesn’t include any side sausages or coffee :-) The music was just getting started so we didn’t hear much of that but it looked like a lovely way to spend a Sunday.

Hi Brian, It's funny the timing of your review. We just had a staff meeting after brunch on Sunday where we informed the staff that we will no longer be adding the gratuity to everyone's bills. It is a decision we have been pondering for some time. As far as our pricing goes, I have to be honest and inform you that the cost of goods and employees is way higher than when either of us started in this industry. We work hard to get the best ingredients at good prices but labor cost on top of that drives everything up for everyone. If only we were a big chain with lots of corporate dollars behind us right? I always enjoy dining at Babette, but this was the first time I got to bring my husband. He was also pleasantly surprised by the significant updates since the place was Lanesplitters Pizza, and was also pleased that the pizza oven was still in active use. He also loved the house-made sodas, which were not too sweet. We ordered the sliders (they were delicious), the mushroom and truffle oil pizza (which I accidentally called the "Muffle Pizza" accidentally, but it stuck -- at our table anyway). The pizza was fantastic, both on its own and with a little hot sauce on it! We also ordered the meatloaf. It was strange, but good, though I might not recommend it to others. We were surprised how empty the place was on a Saturday night - we'd been expecting it to be so busy we needed a reservation, but when we arrived 30mis after opening, we were the only people there. This place is a gem, and I hope it thrives.

Back patio is one of Berkeley's most charming meal spots, even more when there's live music. Babette has raised it's pizza game several notches: crisp thin crust with tangy tomato sauce on the margherita. Asparagus and frisée salad with shave eggs and bacon was a tasty starter.

Upon entering the restaurant one confronts a rather long Corridor with some food prep space on the right. There's a host stand near the entrance but no one was there. We didn't even notice the stand and kept walking down the corridor when someone in the food prep area in a rather booming and aggressive voice told us to wait for the hostess. This was a little off-putting. But when the host disappeared she was nice enough and took us back to the wonderfully Charming patio in the rear. We were surprised there were so many families dining there but the food turned out to be rather family friendly especially the pizzas because they're very large. I'd have to say they were of excellent quality although not quite the style I prefer. The crust was excellent but the pizza itself was just a little cheesier than I usually like. We also had the asparagus salad which disappointed me somewhat as it was rather lightly dressed and not that interesting. When time for dessert came we ordered a panna cotta dessert, waited about 15 minutes and then the server came back and said they were out of it but suggested we get a strawberry rhubarb tartlett. That sounded good but after another 15 minutes the server returned and said well, they only had one person making both the salads and the desserts and so it might be a little while. At that point we canceled dessert paid the bill and left. The prices were very reasonable I would have to say and I would not be adverse to returning at some point.
