ARTIFACT is a full-service restaurant featuring craft cooking inspired by ancient methods, spices and botanicals located inside the beautiful Mingei Museum at Balboa Park . Offering indoor, outdoor courtyard, and bar seating for lunch Tuesday-Saturday.

Crafted by Tim Kolanko, Executive Chef, Urban Kitchen Group, and Tony Coito, ARTIFACT’s Chef de Cuisine, will be a nod to Mingei’s changing international exhibitions in an environment filled with functional, innovative art and design by Jennifer Luce, Founder and Principal of LUCE et studio, who led the design and renovation project.

ARTIFACT se situe dans un musée d'art populaire très apprécié, un décor qui inspire ses plats (presque) trop beaux pour être mangés, notamment des gyozas aux crevettes des rochers soigneusement pliés au jus de yuzu et de dashi et une mousse au chocolat chaï surmontée de crème fouettée à la noix de coco. Attendez-vous à une diffusion aussi internationale que les œuvres d'art exposées.

My husband and I took our older son to lunch and we each absolutely savored our meal. Thanks to your ability to set up a reservation and for all the staff at Artifact!

This is my 3rd visit to Artifact and brought my Mom and my son for Mother's Day Lunch. Shaina who took care of us for our lunch, was amazing had a great attitude, and was attentive. Overall, good food and great service.

It's all about the ambiance and location inside of the museum. Hard to beat. Unique menu. Allows dogs outside on patio. Amazing drink menu. Definitely coming back here with my dogs.

What a lovely experience. This is our second time here and it hits the trifecta for us. 1. The location is beautiful. We love the patio in Balboa Park. 2. The food is delicious and original. I trust that even it I am not sure what something is that it will be tasty. 3. The staff is superb! They are friendly, knowledgable, and really cool humans who elevate the experience. It seems like you treat your employees well, as they seem generally glad to be at work.

If you want fine, sophisticated dining as a vegetarian or vegan, this is a great option. The wine list is impressive as well. Their nod from Michelin is well deserved.

The food was very good. We ordered from the pre-fix menu so we could try more things and it was worth it. Their appetizers and entrees are very good but I would aim more for their desserts. We had the chai, chocolate mousse, and oh, my God. My husband had the burned cheesecake and it was amazing. The concept is nice, with a bunch of flavors that create a unique experience. I was not a fan of their drinks. we ordered the sangria and the gin and both, too sweet. The sangria has cayenne pepper or some spice that I did not appreciate. All in all, it as a fun, different experience with delicious food.

Had a chance to try Artifact by Mingei recently and it seriously impressed. The crudo was super fresh - a total must-try if you're into raw fish. The roasted beet and Asian pear salad was a cool surprise, too. Loved how the beets and pears worked together. The main event was the roasted barramundi. It was cooked just right, and the mix of colored cauliflower and mushrooms were perfectly seasoned. Shout out to Ali for making the meal even better. Spot-on service without feeling like too much. And don't skip their house tonic - it’s refreshing and goes with everything. Definitely coming back here!
