The experience at Ambler at the Hotel Contessa was outstanding. The hotel provided free valet parking. We requested to be seated outside and the view of the riverwalk was beautiful. Our server was Bellamy and she was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and responsive. The food and presentation was excellent.

Received raw steaks and our waiter had no idea what was going on. The floor couldn’t find the manager and we ended up having to eat somewhere else.

We were staying at the hotel and ate breakfast and dinner there. We were well taken care of by our waitstaff at both meals. The food was delicious. They go above and beyond. We had a special needs adult with us that eats only certain foods. They prepared something that wasn’t on the menu and it was very good. They also knew we had a busy day ahead and sent us all off with iced teas to go. Thank you for making our experience wonderful.

The steak (ribeye) was tough for the temperature (medium). The sauce was awesome though. Overall, I think the food was overrated. I guess the $$ goes to the ambiance (right by the riverwalk). Will likely try another place next time.

Waited for our table. Bartender less than friendly. Lovely table. Salad and main course arrived at same time. Main course/sides cold. Requested a do-over. Nice service. Just disappointed

We had reservations at 8:00 and were told that it would be a 10 minute wait while they cleared tables. Many people came in and all were seated before us. At 8:30 we were finally seated. We sat at our table for 10 minutes before a waitress, Taylor came over to serve us. She was not assigned the table but noticed nobody was helping us. Taylor was awesome. If she hadn’t noticed us, we would still be waiting. The food was all delicious. No complaints there, and the drinks were all very tasty. Service was the reason for my rating.

We came in a bit past lunchtime in a hurry to get to an Alamo tour but they gave us the wrong menu. By the time they realized it, one of our party ran ahead to hold the tour and skipped lunch, while the rest of us had time only to wolf down a couple of appetizers /- which were yummy — but served probably a half hour after we sat down & said we were in a hurry.

We had a birthday dinner. When we walked in, it was a mariachi band and everyone one crowed around them. The scenery was very beautiful. We were sat in the back which was very quiet. So if you would like to be near the action, i would request floor seating on your reservation. But the food was amazing and the staff were great. We ordered the Fried chicken dinner and Salmon blackened with broccolini and mash. It was all very flavorful and cooked yo perfection. 10 out of 10 recommend!

Was stressed about having to Pay $200 for our group if we had to cancel within 48 hours. We showed up 7 minutes early and got a comment that we were so early! Asked to switch tables because the AC blowing out from the open door made it really cold. It seemed like an issue even though all they had to do was clean a couple glasses off it. My Brussels sprouts were refrigerator cold and my husband received the wrong meal. The bill was also incorrect with an extra glass of wine charged. So I wouldn’t recommend. Especially don’t make a reservation!

I was here for my anniversary and was so disappointed. I made a reservation and was told I had to wait but several people just walked up and was seated before we were. We waited an additional 30 minutes and once I inquired about my table, the gentleman stated "Oh!! Come on". When we got to our table another staff member was trying to seat another couple at the same table! The water was warm (no ice) and no bread while you wait. After waiting several minutes for the server whizzes in and take our order. She returns to the table to tell u ou order was ready and someone will be walking it over soon. After about 15 min she brings the food herself. The food was ice cold. My husband requested bread and their only accommodations was one slice of toast. Half of the desserts on the menu were not available. It was a very long and disappointing dinner.

Lovely outside table by Riverwalk. Cocktails were amazing! Had goat cheese brulee, Brussle sprouts and deviled egss for starters. ALL VERY GOOD. entree was chicken with corn and mashed potatoes. Good but mashed potatoes too spicy for my taste. Overall very good experience. Service was amazing as my husband often has to ask for tea refills. Never had to here! Super attentive wait staff.

Exceptional service you would expect at a hotel restaurant from a friendly and talented server. But, the food and ambiance were average for the steaks cuts, the cook temperatures and the sides. Texas and steak are synonymous so I expected more than a quarter inch cut for a New York Strip and one of the four was cooked to rare vice our request for medium rare. The Brussel sprouts had an unusual crumble and no bacon while the side of fries were essentially out of a freezer bag and lackluster on the plate. Lastly the ambiance was a mix of overhead lights all the way on and the river walk. Although the outside seating is limited, you can tune down the LED lights, run electronic candle lights and open the windows on nice nights when the heat isn’t oppressive.

While I was very grateful that they were able to accommodate our larger group at the last minute on a Saturday night, it was clear that the host was less than thrilled about it. Our server was very nice, made recommendations and was very prompt even though we were a large group. My main problem was the quality of the expensive steak we ordered. It was overcooked and underwhelming. It was tough and gristly and there was so much pepper on it, you couldn’t taste the meat. The rest of the party agreed that their food was very over-seasoned. I am sensitive to that much pepper and could only eat a couple bites of the steak before my mouth was on fire. I do appreciate our server trying to accommodate and offering me something else to eat. I requested mashed potatoes but even those were so peppery I couldn’t eat them. I admit that I struggle with spicy food and others may not have the same issue as I did. It was expensive though and for me, not worth the price paid. The restaurant is nice, service was good, but I probably wouldn’t return.

Exceptional service and the ambiance was great. However, the food was average at best. Perhaps it was because we arrived less than an hour before the kitchen closed but it was subpar. The temps were not great all around, but the flavor was there. Still, the cocktails and bar selection was fantastic.

I work in the hotel industry myself and I was very impressed with the service from Motello our server. He was so polite and suggested great options. I did want to express a little discomfort because I came for a family dinner to celebrate my brothers birthday and Trevor who is the restaurant manager I assume did not great us once. As someone who works in his position I was disappointed, Trevor walked over towards my family and I and didn’t say hello or just greet us in general…he decided to move tables that was next to us further away from us and walked away. My brother ordered a lemonade and our server forgot so I tried to get Trevor’s attention and he looked at me and turned around. I honestly just expected better from a manager but overall our server was amazing and the food was delicious.

Valentine’s Day Experience was incredibly over priced for the “Experience.” Portions of the 6-course meal were inedible! Servers and staff were very good but they couldn’t make up for the horrible food that was way over priced. Over 350 dollars will never do an Experience there again. Not sure about every day menu.

Valentine’s Day menu was overpriced for the value provided. Food was decent but kitchen and wait staff were seemingly overloaded. First course was room temperature. Received our main course prior to the third course. Though third course was subsequently provided, main course sat cooling on the table.

Wonderful first (not last!) experience at Ambler! Matteo was our server and he made our evening perfect! From relocating us to a cozy location because of a large (&loud) party, to A+ recommendations and always smiling- we'll request him again! Food was amazing from our cocktails, to the dessert!

We love this restaurant and the food from Brunch to Dinner is excellent. The servers always seem happy to assist you and everything comes out at just the right time. ( My only recommendation is table cloths/candles? to give more ambiance as we like a little romance on a night out. Besides that we love it!

Chicken fried steak was seasoned amazingly, however very tough, and with only a butter knife at the table it made for a funny night. This was our one-year wedding anniversary, and it was a cold night, the waiters kept going in and out and leaving the doors open so the draft was freezing and i was unable to remove my coat to enjoy the evening.

We came on New Year's Day 2024. The Ambler restaurant is located in the Contessa Hotel and everything is very clean and pretty in the bar area there was an acoustic guitar being played at an enjoyable volume as well as access to the River Walk entrance. The restaurant is a little plain but clean and comfortable and maybe at dinner it may look fancier but don't let that stop you as the food and service were great. we came for Brunch and it was outstanding. I ordered the Country Fried Steak which was a full-sized meal as I knew my husband would want some. My husband had the French toast and it was delicious too. Our server Teresa was accommodating and nice. Would highly recommend it and can't wait to stay at this lovely Hotel.

Great start to the first day of the new year. Had a reservation which really didn’t seem to matter. Arrived 10 minutes before scheduled time, was directed to wait in the bar to actual reservation time…waited, waited and went back to hostess for table status 12 minutes past reservation time. Was seated, then waited some more time before actual service. Food was good. Being in the hotel was a plus.

I wish I could have given Ambler a higher rating but there were a few issues. To begin with they had live music and piped in music from the hotel playing at the same time. When I asked that they turn off the piped in music it seemed to be impossible. So we had two sound tracks competing for our attention during the entire meal. It's a shame because the live musician had potential. There was no bread on the table and when asked the server told me that they don't have any bread. What kind of restaurant doesn't have bread? The tortilla soup was good but they served and charged for a bowl when I ordered a cup. To make things worse I was given a teaspoon instead of a soup spoon. The entrees themselves were as advertised and actually quite tasty. The server did his best to make things right but it seems that having a restaurant in a hotel just didn't cut it. Too bad.

Reservation process was easy. We arrived and they sat us immediately. Didn’t have a waiter come by for 15 mins. Someone tried to bring us food (before we waiter even came by, the waiter input the wrong table). The hostess had to tell a waiter (the one who put the wrong table number in for the food they tried to serve us) we were in his section. Took another 5ish mins to come over. It was very obvious he had no idea what was going on or about the menu. We ordered the table side mimosas and he had to look at the menu to understand what we ordered. Their espresso machine was broken so couldn’t get espresso based drinks. Waiter only poured 3 of us water. Waiter brought out the wrong juices ordered for the mimosas. Food was excellent. I had the French toast, and others had the country fried steak Benedict and a frittata. All were impressed especially since this restaurant is in a hotel. Food was good. Service was lack luster. I think it would’ve been a better experience with a different waiter. It was within walking distance of our friends apartment so the location was good. Prices were decent. We’d come back.

Just a dinner out, heard it was a good spot. I take myself out to dinner often. I enjoy it and I enjoyed my meal. But I didn’t like was it it was rather cold. I was sitting fairly close to the doors going out on the patio and they kept opening and closing and leaving the door open, allowing the cold wind to blow in because the door formed. The draft was uncomfortable, and it continually happened leaving the door open.

All the food we got was delicious and the portion sizes were tremendous. Waitress was fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful dinner.
