Immerse yourself in the time-honored techniques and evocative flavors of wood-fired Mexican cuisine at Ámbar Restaurante in downtown El Paso. The menu is led by Executive Chef Lawrence Acosta, who brings his mastery of regional Mexican cuisine to the city.

Patrons are greeted by a spectacular 40-foot-tall amber glass and polished stainless steel wall that showcases the bar area and one of the largest tequila collections in Texas.

Chef Acosta makes a conscious effort to support the boutique, family-run farms and makers in Mexico, and the menu features centuries-old Mexican recipes with a regionally driven twist. Popular dishes include ceviches, roasted cauliflower w/ mole poblano tacos, bacon tacos; al pastor; and tomahawk ribeye. For dessert, coconut tres leches and mesquite chocolate cake by Pastry Chef Jakki Rojo.

We had dinner reservations at 6 for two of us. When we were seated we waited over 10 minutes and I finally had to tell the hostess we didn’t have a waitress. We finally got a waitress but she seemed annoyed the entire night. We started with the verde ceviche which was subpar. The fish was fishy and mealy and wasn’t great. I ordered the Baja fish taco and it was literally one giant shrimp beer battered in a tortilla and they left the TAIL ON! Who beer batters a shrimp with a tail!? You can’t even tell until you bite into it. Disgusting. We ordered a second round of drinks and the waitress said it was taking long so she would comp them. However our first drinks were two tall beers and the second beers that were comped were shorts. It was ridiculous, I would have just rather paid and got another tall beer especially since it took 15 minutes to get another drink. To cap off the night, we asked for a desert menu and the waitress took 10 minutes to bring that. She never had a smile on her face and seemed annoyed. I really wanted a fun experience and good dinner before a concert but it was definitely disappointing especially for the price. I won’t be recommending this place unfortunately.

The ribeye was one of the best steaks I’ve eaten, even compared to high end steak houses that charge $80 a plate. Good service, good food, good drinks. Worth checking out.

Was worried about the quality of the restaurant due to other reviews and hadn't been in several years. We specifically overnight on the way to Marfa to stay and eat here. Was not disappointed. The server was exceptional, food wonderful and overall experience an absolute pleasure. Can't wait to come back again!

The restaurant is beautiful. However, the wait staff was uneven. We waited 17 minutes with no service until I flagged a waiter. Note restaurant was not full at all. The food itself would have been excellent; if severed right after it was prepared. When it finally made it to the table it was cold. Our waitress never checked up on us, so we ate around it. When making the reservation I noted that we were celebrating a birthday. It would have been nice if some type of pastry would have been presented. It's the small details that could have made a nice experience to an unforgettable event. Thank you

The Brussels sprouts were excellent. We asked for lime pie and ice cream and they did not have any. Service was slow. Nice ambiance.

We went for brunch (buffet), food was very mid, when we first went for food almost everything was close to empty and cold. Fruit bar was the same almost empty. Service was fine. But definitely not worth $40 per person!!! Nothing about that buffet and service is worth $40 to be honest. Not a good place for brunch.

Last time we came to Ambar, the food was great but the service was super slow. Last night we decided to give it another try. This time, the food was good, the service was super super slow. It took over an hour to get our food! I must add, the manager comped our entire meal, and we were grateful for that. But - they’ve fooled me twice, we won’t be going back.

Nathan offered lovely service. The food and drinks were all delicious. Always recommend both soups, and the hot veg sprouts and artichoke hearts.

I loved the ambiance of the restaurant, very modern art deco vibes and relaxing. The food was phenomenal. The steak was like butter in my mouth and the brussel sprouts were flavorful and tender. The only thing was my server, he took forever and I don't know if it's because I was dining alone Inwas not priority, but, I had to get the attention of the server next to me to get things. Overall the staff was great and food too.

Absolutely amazing hors d'ourvres. I love the artichokes which are delicious, vegan, and enough for 4 people! Also love the Brussel sprouts which are again, enough for many people. My friend and I used these dishes as our main meal and we still had to ask for a box to take some home. Excellent service. I appreciate the great vegan dishes offer, such as mole enchiladas filled with veggies.

Went there for Valentine’s Day. Me and my boyfriend got the Valentine’s Day Special Menu and for $75/person it was definitely not worth it to say the least. All of the dishes were disappointing with portion sizing, the overall flavor was peculiar and nothing ‘special,’ and value of the meal in general. The lobster croquette was tasteless and the size of a quarter. The ceviche had three pieces of octopus in it. The monkfish and prawn entree only had one… ONE prawn served. And the whoopie pie was so hard I almost broke my fork trying to get into it. It was cold, stale, and honestly just a very disappointing choice of a dessert from this type of upscale restaurant. We literally left the restaurant and got Canes after because that’s how hungry we were still. For a $200 bill, I would’ve expected to at least be satiated after a meal.

Helpful service, especially from the manager. The cuisine is more southern Mexican, with more seafood on the menu versus a ‘normal’ Mexican restaurant. Wonderful appetizer menu. Unfortunately, the lunchtime menu is somewhat limited versus the evening menu.

Food was very good and service was excellent. We came for the St. Valentine tasting dinner but one of the entree was no available and the only available was a fish Tourbot and Prawn. I was surprised that in a Sunday @ 7 PM with just 2-3 tables with people dinning they runout of one of the main dishes. No substitute was available. I wonder if I was allergic to seafood? This special tasting was offered from Feb 11-16; I will expect availability of all the dishes.

Excellent anniversary dinner for us both. Hamachi Verde appetizer was outstanding and my rack of lamb was perfectly done at med rare with asparagus and mashed potatoes to complement. The star of the evening was my wife's lobster dish. Spendy, but worth every penny, and every bite savory. She loves it and told our waitress to tell the chef, it was the best lobster dish she's ever had. Ambar restaurant is a gem in El Paso and highly recommend to anyone for any event. Wait and bar staff also on point every step of the meal. Great anniversary dinner at Ambar for us.

Dining alone usually gets you a table far from the front and usually near the kitchen. I am not very familiar with Mexican dishes and the names are unknown to me. The food that I had was good, well done. I had salmon at $38. I could buy a similar piece of salmon at the grocery store for $10. The wait person was great. For what I had, I find Ambar too expensive for my tastes. Probably will not return.

Short and sweet my bill was 500$ and my tomahawk was ordered Med. came rare. Almost purple in the middle sent it back and it came back barely warm horrible.
