Alec’s Restaurant opened in 2010 and has established itself as one of Essex’s leading fish Restaurants. Alec’s prides itself on quality ingredients and exceptional service.
Unwind with a premium bottle of wine or signature cocktail in the comfortable lounge before taking a seat in the elegant main dining room, which can accommodate 120 guests.
Roaring fires in the winter and a delightful outdoor dining area in the summer, only enhance the elegant building.
The menu at Alec’s Restaurant is traditionally British and sets out to provide simple, quality fresh food. Although predominantly a seafood restaurant serving the finest fish and shellfish, mouth-watering meat dishes add to this impressive menu.
We are proud to follow the MSC code of conduct for sustainably sourced seafood. Plus, all seafood and fish are wild and ‘day boat caught’ from across Britain.
Please note that this restaurant operates a strict policy of no children under 12 years, and a smart casual dress code.

Sadly the restaurant is going downhill imo! Whilst presentation of food looks good, the quality of ingredients is not. Cheaper cuts of meat and poor quality fish are now used & it is evident! Sad to see the slow demise of such a pleasant establishment. We visited with family but it did not live up to the standards expected and prices commanded.

Was very disappointed that they had run out of Guinness as that is the only drink I have , the meal was very good and service was great but didn’t really like the other beers so not having my regular drink ruined the experience for me .

Stunning restaurant, very modern decor but also has a nice cosy feel. Staff were polite, happy, very helpful. The service was outstanding. Well the food, what can I say.. Apart from perfect in every way, presentation, portion, taste was delicious. Spotlessly clean everywhere. Plenty of space between tables so you had your privacy. Overall what an fantastic evening. I highly recommend it.

We had a beautiful meal on Saturday to celebrate Mother’s Day. It was our first time to visit and we loved our meal. The staff we met were all lovely, very helpful and great service. The food is just stunning, without doubt one of the best meals I have ever had. I can’t recommend Alec’s highly enough and we will definitely be back again.

Really enjoyed the night. Staff attentive, food on point, busy and atmospheric. Can’t complain really, all 3 of us enjoyed our food and the staff did a great job!

The service was okay but they brought us the wrong water (we ordered sparkling not still, but they opened and poured it before we noticed) and wine (we caught this one and sent it back). The food was also okay but the calamari was a bit oily and the main course fish was a little over. I ordered the octopus and prawn linguine and it was spaghetti instead, which was not only the wrong pasta but seemed store bought not fresh, as it was hard not al dente. Lastly, the way we were greeted at the door made us both feel uncomfortable. It was my wife’s birthday and the maitre’d made a big thing about her age which was awkward.

Lovely meal celebrating my mother's 80th birthday. It is a beautiful restaurant and don't worry about where you will be seated, they are all great tables! The staff are so welcoming and friendly. You are made to feel special. One of my group was served the wrong main course, but this was rectified swiftly with an apology. So apart from that hiccup, 5 stars from us. I've eaten here a number of times and am never disappointed. Fab place for a special occasion.

The food was good. However the calamari was slightly over cooked and the half lobster had far to much chilli om it. Even after scraping the paste off it was still rather hot and took all the flavour away from the lobster which is a shame as it was nice and tender. The scallops were great and steak cooked to our liking. Pavlova was also very good. Service was great although no music or atmosphere unfortunately. I would try again but wouldn't order lobster unless dressing was changed.

The Dover sole was great and everyone in our group enjoyed their food. The wine was expensive and I wasn't particularly impressed with what we had. I'd love to see some more quality in the £50 to £75 that would still give around 300% mark up on a £15 to £25 wholesale bottle and there is plenty of great wine in this range.

Great restaurant . I’m from out of the area and didn’t know where to eat . So please I found this Gem On Opentable . Seems it’s quite a well known place in the area… but I hadn’t heard of it . So glad I found it . Will definitely return .

A fantastic restaurant with a very extensive menu. Lots to choose from and beautifully presented. The staff were very attentive and friendly too. On the expensive side but a great place to go to celebrate an occasion. We will be back!

Absolutely excellent birthday lunch. The food was really tasty and well presented, and the service spot-on. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended. I love a view and our table in the conservatory had far reaching views across the countryside towards London. Fab!

Family meal - service was outstanding really excellent! Cocktails were good especially the champagne cocktail - our starters were very good especially the tuna which was really great, our skate for main course was well cooked but the brown butter and caper sauce lacked a little flavour. Dessert was very tasty. It was on the expensive side at over £100 a head including drinks, wine but overall a lovely treat.

It was a blind decision to attend this restaurant and I was not disappointed. The setting is beautiful surrounded by fields and in an out of the way location. The ambience and setting was light and airy with a bold colour scheme for the fabrics. I felt like I was in a luxurious Bedouin tent surrounded by cushions of every shape and size. The food was delicious; my fiend and I opted for the 2-course lunch menu. My pil pil prawns were delicious, would have like a few more! The monkfish main was succulent and tasty and washed down with the sommelier’s choice of a Chenin Blanc. Service was very good, my one and only criticism was that I was left standing at reception for what seemed like a while whilst a number of staff saw me and walked by (granted, they may have been busy). In all a delightful experience that I will be repeating.

Had a lovely afternoon at Alec’s, the staff were superb and the food very good, the only downside was it was a tad on the expensive side. But in the end you only get what you pay for. Definitely a go to place for that special occasion and we will go again.

We enjoyed our meal overall plus the ambiance of Alec’s restaurant. We’ve been to Alec’s a few times before so know the restaurant. On arrival we had a complimentary glass of Prosecco, bread, butter and a small fish tester on biscuit. I choose the fish cake for the main course which had chilli and paprika in it but I found it to be too spicy for me. We’d a 175 ml glass of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc’s each. The vegetables we choose were tasty, dauphinois potatoes, creamed savoy cabbage & smoked bacon plus cauliflower cheese. My starter course was delicious, it was pan seared scallops and king prawn ravioli. We choose one dessert of plum tart tasting , butterscotch and vanilla ice cream which we shared, double espresso coffee afterwards. My husband enjoyed his meal also. We’ll be visiting Alec’s some time again in the future.
