Enjoy our traditional afternoon tea in the elegance of The Great Room whilst being entertained by live music. Our three tiered silverstand boasts finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam and a delicious selection of cakes, pastries and sweet treats. This will be accompanied by your choice of tea or coffee.

Please note, we require 24 hours' notice for our vegetarian, vegan, gluten or nut allergen Afternoon Tea or any other special dietary requirements. Please make a note when booking online or inform us directly and we will be happy to accommodate you.

Food was average taking the price in consideration. Service was stiff, false and not attentive. Didn’t change plates, had to ask for sandwich platter to be taken away ….all in all not impressed

The experience was outstanding. The venue is outstanding, excellent service and warm atmosphere. Been there for the first but it seemed that we were well known. Thumbs up and chapeau.

Fantastic afternoon tea at ‘The Merchant’, best I’ve had since The Ritz. We came to celebrate our friends 50th birthday and they really looked after us and made our friend a cake and candle. Thank you so much

Loved our time there was amazing. Lovely afternoon tea. The sandwiches cakes scones were very delicious. We would recommend this place for sure for afternoon tea. The service was amazing We had a lovely waiter looking after us all the time we there his name was Peter. So friendly and helpful. Thank you. We were visiting from Canada

Lovely experience with excellent food choices. The staff were very attentive & the atmosphere was very tranquil. The lovely addition of a little birthday cake for my sister was also very much appreciated. Would definitely recommend.

The facility is beautiful. My fiancée and I decided to spend some of our time in Belfast enjoying Afternoon Tea at The Merchant Hotel, and the elegance and beauty of the whole experience exceeded our expectations. Everything was well prepared, there were a wide variety of tea and drink options, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Completely overrated. A few finger sandwiches which were just alright. The little scones were nice. In my opinion way too much sweet stuff. It is a lovely venue and everyone likes good service but I'm afraid it's just ott. Was it worth £114..... Absolutely not

I was quoted £25pp and was billed £90odd as the hotel said opentable had quoted wrong price. My 87 year old mother who suffers with anxiety got so stressed and my daughter on phone to me in turkey was extremely embarrassed as I'd told her the price was £50. This should have been discusses between yourselves and not in the dining room with my family being told by staff that it must have been for something else! It clearly stated afternoon tea at the merchant. I won't use open table again as what was supposed to be a treat for mothers day turned out a disaster.

Beautiful Room, excellent service from all staff. Birthday girl made to feel very special . It was lovely to get to choose sandwich options . And getting extra sandwiches was no problem . We were all slightly disappointed with the selection of pastries , but maybe they weren’t just to our taste !

I grabbed afternoon tea while solo travelling in Belfast and The Merchant could not have provided me with a more luxurious and thoughtful experience. 10s across the board.

Food great, service has slipped. Any time we wanted more tea or water, we had to look around for staff, try and get their attention, and call them over to ask. Great Room staff used to be much more attentive than this, teapots and water glasses were refilled wlbefoee I'd even noticed they needed it - standards aren't what they were. Fewer patisseries for a higher cost, although the illustrated menu is a nice touch. Overall, fine for a special occasion but overpriced for anything else.

A bit underwhelming. Nothing really changed since the last time I was there but the price. It is still good and would certainly recommend. For some reason we were not special enough to get one of the macarons the waitress seem to give to everyone else. However can’t fault the place and everything is good apart from the price.

Service was good. Coats were taken (so many places don't nowadays). Hotel looked lovely. Tea service was attractive and food was good.

There was a lack off in this afternoon tea. Lack of flavour and wow. The flavours, were either over powering or bland. The presentation mundane. I got a cake from the Spar on the way home which was just as nice. For £2.50. For the price you want passion and creativity to fest with the eye and enjoy mind blowing taste. This was not it. I recently had afternoon tea at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh. It was expensive but def a wow and worth every penny. The Mechant is sitting on its Laurels….

Took my wife for her birthday. We had a delightful time and a surprise slice of birthday cake arrived towards the end of our service. Sandwiches were utterly delicious! Could have ate another 6 lol. Staff were on point and very hospitable. Get your tea booked! Thinking about trying the restaurant menu next. Yum!

My seat and surrounding area was covered in crumbs which I had to clean off myself. The chairs are actually stained and dirty! The young man who served tea had the most ugly grotesque tattoo on his hand which is not what I expect from a 5 star hotel! Selection of food was lovely and tasty which we both enjoyed. Not sure why I was charged VAT on top of service charge? The Hungarian waitress was very engaging and helpful.

I booked this a part of my mum's Christmas gift and it was a wonderful end to the festive season. Horia was a delight and couldn't have done enough for us.

I took my mum for afternoon tea on New Year’s Day. The food and service was great but if I was seated again by the Christmas tree I would ask to be seated elsewhere as we were disturbed by a constant stream of people posing for family photos right beside our table. The odd one or two was fine but one party in particular took turns to photograph every family member with absolutely no consideration for us for us at all -we were trying to enjoy a quiet time out together. Perhaps management can consider this for next year and not place tables beside the tree as it did spoil the second half of our visit considerably.

We have been to the Merchant for afternoon tea so many times. We went for our son's birthday and usually when celebrating there would be a mini cake and staff would be really friendly and make the person feel really special but that wasn't the case. The server E could not be bothered to be there. The sandwich order for our Son was wrong and when fixed the bread came out freezing cold and he couldn't eat it because it was so unpleasant. The Mocktail we ordered him was £10.50 which would be fine for a cocktail but for raspberry cordial in lemonade not so much. We were disappointed in the experience which is frustrating as this has been a family favourite for years.

Great place. Not cheap but luxurious. Waiters and waitresses are kind and professional. Food is great as well as tea.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff were excellent. The food however was not great at all. Having been at the afternoon tea before I was really disappointed by the festive menu. The food wasn’t very nice although it looked amazing it didn’t taste as good as it looked. Even the scones were very dry and tasteless. It was a treat for my friends birthday and the staff brought a cake and candle which was very nice. My friend enjoyed the experience but sadly not the food. So was an expensive experience unfortunately.

The venue is stunning however no Christmas music playing ? Our table was nice and service good but the food wasn’t great … for for the price of £51 per person. The sandwiches weren’t fresh and had been made earlier and placed in a fridge and the fillings and size were quite-small. The scones were nice however once again tiny. The worse part was the desserts .. not a great choice and just ok.. The tea was lovely however we had a teapot that leaked all over the beautiful table. Not a great experience for my daughter and wife as an early Christmas gift. Unfortunately wouldn’t recommend 🥴 for a 4/5 star hotel you would have expected it to be perfect.
