I cannot figure out how to spell our waitress' name, but the lady with black hair that mentioned she was from New York was absolutely phenomenal. We went for a birthday celebration and will be talking about this experience for a long time. Our food was incredible, multiple people checked on us, the atmosphere was gorgeous, and our waitress provided the best service either of us have experienced in all our lives.

Excellent food and service. Great vibe in the main dinning room and upstairs in the bar. Staff was attentive. Food was delicious. We split the 20oz ribeye and it was cooked to perfection.

First time dining at this location. We’ve dined often at Midlothian Chef’s Kitchen and had been eager to try1870. Kudos to Chef Dunlap and staff for creating a wonderful experience with delicious foods. Wait staff were knowledgeable, professional and friendly. This was a dinner celebrating our May birthdays and we were not disappointed. Definitely will be back!

We arrived and were immediately seated. The restaurant has high ceilings and hard surfaces, so it was quite loud. There was low volume music but still a bit too noisy. We ordered wine and it was terrific. We ordered food and our food arrived. It was hot and fresh but the presentation was a little too basic. I had a pork chop and au poivre sauce. I received a plate with a piece of meat and a little pitcher of sauce. That's it! No garnish or presentation flare. My wife had a steak and it was presented in a similar manner. However, both our entrees were excellent. Our server, Grace, was fantastic. The GM visited our table and introduced himself. He even comp'd a glass of bubbly since we were celebrating and anniversary. The desserts were wonderful. Other than the presentation, my only suggestion would be to use a different type of plate for the salad and dessert. I felt like I was eating out of a dog bowl. But again, taste is everything and this food tasted great!

We took our teenagers to 1870 and all loved their meal. The steak melted in your mouth. My daughter got the salmon and said top notch. There is a variety of sides and all got a thumbs up. We got one of each dessert and all sampled. The bread pudding was our favorite. The decor is cute, staff friendly, and service excellent. We are thrilled that this historic building has turned into a beautiful restaurant and plan to be regular patrons.

1870 is a wonderful new addition to Midlo! Our server Keira was so knowledgeable and fun and our meal was.delicious. We are already planning our next visit.

We loved the ambiance. The service was great. The price wasn't' too bad, but the food didn't have a lot of taste. The lobster bisque tasted of cream only. The filet was chewy and flavorless. The mashed potatoes were delicious.

This was our first visit to 1870 and as a nearby resident and enthusiast of the chef, was looking forward to it. We were seated in one of the upstairs rooms, next to the bar. The noise level was somewhat energetic. We were seated and ordered our drinks within 5 minutes. Our drinks took a while to arrive 15 or more minutes. During this time we looked at the menu. When the waitress returned with our drinks she asked us about food orders. We ordered apps - said we'd like to wait on our mains. She told us the chef prefers the entire order all at once. I was reluctant because I was trying to avoid the "assembly line" experience - one dish coming on the heels of another. I tried to push back but the waitress insisted. Our apps came out and we were enjoying them with our cocktails. And, as was feared, our mains came out before our app plates had even been cleared and before any orders had been taken for wine to accompany dinner. I looked at my spouse and said "Feed 'em and street 'em". We'd both ordered filet, medium. They were medium well - barely pink center, and well cooked edges. Also, they were sorely lacking a beautiful seared crust. I ordered the Au Poivre sauce, he ordered the Garlic sauce. The Au Poivre neede more seasoning. The garlic sauce tasted as if the garlic had been burned - bitter aftertaste. Midway thru our filets, the wine we ordered to accompnay arrived. I was pretty disappointed in everything. I wanted a leisurly dinner, to enjoy each dish without being rushed. At the end, it was a bit of an assembly line, the food wasn't up to my expectations of this chef, and we were ultimately underwhelmed.
