The meal was amazing. The lamb was very tender, the polenta was great (have never had it prepared this way) but it was disappointing they didn’t have any cocktails or even the liquor to make the affogato that was on the menu.

The food is amazing and if you go in daylight time the view is spectacular. Great local seafood. The new lamb fish was mouthwatering. Add in great Tassie wine and 1830 makes a date night very memorable indeed.

Great food, great atmosphere and great wait staff! We highly recommend dining here. Great range of Tasmanian wines and liquor. Food was top notch quality and presentation was delightful. Wait staff were prompt and friendly and happy to recommend wines and meals. 5* restaurant!

The food was delicious and servings generous. The staff were very efficient, charming and helpful. The restaurant has a beautiful outlook over the Port Arthur site and it was delightful to watch the sunset vista. As it’s on a government site, staff are not allowed to accept tips. This is a shame as they certainly deserve them. A big thank you to all staff at 1830, who made our meal memorable. Jane Lorimer

Fabulous service with delicious food. Great experience - we were seated overlooking the historic site whilst the the sun was going down, which added perfectly to the following ghost tour we were booked on.

This is a fairly touristy place. Lovely views out the windows over Port Arthur. Food is a share plate arrangement. Nice but nothing special. Smallish serves for the price

Great food (all of it, the crispy pork, the quail, the chicken and cheese cake). Service was also on point, and the venue was spot on , 🫸🫷 Could not have asked for more on our dinner experience 💯

I expected this restaurant to be more impressive than it was. It basically felt like a pretty plain cafe with little ambiance. The selling point was the views over the Port Arthur Historic site, but the film on the windows or lack thereof meant that all you could see were reflections of other diners. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and were seated at a bench seat in front of the window so we should have had the best view. The bench seats might be okay in a cafe but were a bit average in an expensive restaurant. The food was nice,, but the menu limited and no wow factor for the price. Service was ok, but we had to ask several times for water and wait for drinks which was not great considering the place was only half full. The food did come out quite quickly which was good. I would not rate myself as a precious person but sadly would not visit this restaurant again.

Great food and location. The view of Port Arthur is awesome. Only recommendation is to consider shad for the direct sunlight through the windows.

I have reviewed 1830 on Tripadvisor as consistently the best restaurant on the Peninsula, and our visit last night did nothing to alter that assessment. The meal was very good — we had the Scotch fillet as a main course, cheesecake and meringue for dessert, and Norfolk Bay Pinot Noir to accompany the meal. The waitresses were very aimiable and efficient, and the views across the Site are always beautiful. Once again a very agreeable dining-out experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed 1830 restaurant. It was my husband's birthday, and it was the perfect venue with a wonderful view over the ruins. We went on a ghost tour after dinner.

The food and views were incredible. We were lucky to be seated right on the window and had a wonderful view of the grounds. The service was great. Would recommend to anyone going to port Arthur.

Michael welcomed us to a requested table by the window & an amazing view over Port Arthur. The meal was outstanding as per our previous visit & although the menu is small all the dishes are of the highest standard in both taste & presentation. This restaurant is one you don’t expect to find in a major tourist attraction but it is a must to visit if you are travelling to the Port Arthur area. Kudos to a great chef.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! The food was absolutely amazing. Everything was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. The staff were also very lovely. This is the perfect place to end the day.

The food was excellent. Very fresh, tasty and well presented. The table service by Brooke was very good. She was friendly and very attentive. She has a good understanding of the food and wine on offer. Ally was very efficient at checkout. Our only complaint was that the draft from the aircon was quite uncomfortable. We mentioned it to Brooke who apologised but said the waitstaff had no control over the room temperature. I would also point out that the chairs were very heavy and difficult to move particularly for one of our group who has mobility issues. Overall, we were very happy with our visit to 1830 and pleasantly surprised to find such good quality food and service.

Food was so beautiful! Staff very friendly and helpful. It’s peaceful and our table looked out to the gardens. Maybe it’s a training issue …. but we sat for 30 minutes in a not so busy restaurant waiting for our ordered drinks. Then when we finished dinner…. Our plates sat for another 30 minutes…. We ran out of time for dessert…. We didn’t really mind… but it will be costing you $! In saying all this we will still highly recommend this place to everyone!! 🤩

The food was excellent. But service was understaffed and paid too much attention to small tour group. Asking twice for water only to have to go up and get it. Not good. 15-20 minute wait for drinks. Not good. Waiting 10-15 minutes at the end to pay the bill while they sorted the tour group bill. Not good. But the food was very good, as was the view.. will go back and hope for better service.

We were lucky enough to get the corner window that looks out over the prison buildings. The service was great. Food was 10 out of 10. It was a very posh and modern restaurant with amazing food quality. When we visit again, we will definitely be rebooking for dinner.

Everything on the plate was crackingly good. Scallops were on point, the pork belly you could pull apart with your tongue yet the crackling was just right, the steak was exactly as ordered, with the salad setting it off perfectly, and the fish of the day was served up different to how it was listed in the menu (but as detailed by the wait staff) as it was matched to the fish, and it was again on point. Desserts were great to boot. Book your table before attending, as FOH was a bit overwhelmed with the number of walk ins. This is genuinely great food that measures up well to anything, anywhere. They have made a point to showcase local produce and they do it proud.

Beautiful restaurant, superb setting, felt intimate and fairly quiet even with a couple of larger groups around us (impressive) wait staff were great, very responsive and polite. Needed a little push at the end to bring dessert menus after we told them to come back in a little while initially. Food fabulous with small exception of scallops, beautiful presentation but the foam plus shavings were a little too overpowering for me, lost the lovely freshness of the scallop in the intensity of the topping. Everything else divine

Nice location in the historic area Average food and small portions A bit overpriced for the quality and quantity served They forgot our drinks as they served the food first . Then they forgot the mains I was also charged 4$ extra but I noticed only outside when I checked the bill

We really enjoyed our dining experience here, sampling a range of small plates including oysters natural, kilpatrick, pork belly, quail and roasted cauliflower. Attentive staff and superb views.
