1417 French Bistro is a warm and friendly neighborhood restaurant that embraces the culture of dining at a true French bistro. Owner Allison Welsh curated the desirable restaurant space to feel inviting, yet elevated with modern artwork, mid-century furniture and a lush array of plants. Favorite dishes include our french onion soup, escargot vol au vent, poisson meunière and steak frites.

The cocktail program is a love note to 1417. A mix of classics like sidecars and sazeracs along with original cocktails that should not be overlooked.

1417 French Bistro has been featured in Texas Monthly’s Dining Guide and as a top Austin restaurant in Tribeza, Austin American-Statesman, Local Palate, and Uproxx.

    Love the place! Ambiance is always wonderful and the service very sweet, caring and polite. The $2 oyster deal is unbeatable on Wednesdays, will definitely become a regular

    We love the Bistro! It is a consistently high quality dining experience with excellent food choices and great service! We always think of it as a choice for special occasions. It’s a south Austin European style experience! Really great!

    Way over priced. Interior is confusing. The lamp in the back left corner booth needs to go immediately. Everything was “give us a minute” but took forever. Ran out of the French margarita and Lalo….

    The food was excellent with the exception of some of the sorbets. Service was also excellent until the very end of the meal when there were some issues with the kitchen. It’s a charming place with a great atmosphere, and I’ll be back for the bone marrow and the duck!

    The ambience is lovely, and the staff friendly. Our meal came out nearly cold; despite the restaurant not being busy at at that time. We also ordered the half baguette with sea salt. She said she had to put that in right away, which made it seem like it would come out warm. It wasn’t warm, and was very dry. I got the roasted chicken, and it wasn’t roasted; the skin was barely cooked, and the mashed potatoes lacked flavor. In addition, the staff took all of our utensils when they were removing the small plates, and nobody brought more. I finally had to get up and ask.

    Wine was great. Food was ok. Went for brunch. Service was soft. I think they were understaffed though. Would give it another try but it was overall meh.

    Escargot and sauce had no particular flavor The trout was overcooked, almost dry Steak frites were bland Very disappointing The patio room was incredibly noisy, couldn’t hear wait staff

    Great food, great service, great ambience. Enjoyed my birthday dinner but may come back more often for the great Wednesday wine and oyster specials!
