The Old Surrey Restaurant is Surrey’s best well- kept secret. Built in 1918, it was the residence of Lou Jack and his household until it was converted into a restaurant in 1974.

The interior has a crisp, clean aesthetic that is enhanced by hardwood floors and the enlarged photos of historic Surrey that adorn the walls. There are five distinct dining areas on the top floor (including a cozy library) and a banquet facility downstairs. The cuisine is French with a splash of West Coast flare. A treat for new and seasoned guests alike are the signature dishes that are prepared and flambeed tableside.

The restaurant is family owned and operated since 1975. Since 1984 the restaurant has entered into a partnership with the family farm in Ryder Lake overlooking Chilliwack from the nearby mountains. The Old Surrey is well known for its free-range lamb and veal allowing customers to enjoy fresh organic ingredients.

    I had a peppercorn steak. The meat was cooked to perfection. There were no vegetables served with the steak, however - only potatoes. The potatoes were a version of homefried potatoes, as well. Mashed potatoes would have been amore palatable selection.

    Nice and cozy place. The food and the service and great. We picked this traditional restaurant as our choice to celebrate Mother's Day and loved it. Absolutely recommended.

    We have been going here for over 10+ years. We had their 50 year anniversary 3 course menu. We added on the raw oysters and unfortunately I was unwell from it.

    Great place and has been for many years. Accommodated 10 people plus a last minute addition with ease. Wonderful service and apricated the whole place for making my grandparents feel special

    I have been to restaurants all across Canada and this is one of my all time favourites! I had the special and my wife had the pepper steak. Both were wonderful. Service is always fast, efficient and friendly. Highly recommended!

    Me and my wife thought we would go there for a nice birthday dinner and I thought even if it was expensive and the portions small at least we would get a flavourful meal. The French onion soup tasted like water, the schnitzel was flavorless and the mushroom gravy that went on it was flavorless, the paella tasted like plain rice and the chocolate cake tasted chalky. All the other food was okay-ish. I would struggle to cook a meal with less flavour. I wouldn't recommend unless you like the flavour of water made manifest.

    My husband and I ordered the 50th Anniversary special for a 3 course meal for $50. The appetizers, main courses and desserts were delicious. Highly recommend!

    Food & service disappointing. Onion soup was lacking in onions, cheese and did not taste good. Entree items were small. The only things we enjoyed were the Valentino salad and apple tart. Service was non-existent. The only time we saw our server was when he took our order, removed the dishes and finally when it was time to pay. When we said it was not what we expected he said nothing, just stood looking at us. We’ve been there previously and enjoyed our time but not last night.

    Enjoyed a fine birthday dinner with my partner, I had the Spring Special, very good value, she had chicken. good prompt service, best of all we were able to have a conversation without blaring ambient music and TV screens all over. Hadn't visited for a while, reminder to self: go to Old Surrey more often.

    Very disappointed in our meal this evening. French onion soup was terrible. Lacked onion flavour, tasted like Worcestershire sauce. Halibut cooked ok but sauce had no flavour, lacked seasoning. Paella entree was salty and an appetizer portion. Butternut squash ravioli overpowered with onion. Apple tartan served with raw apples. Service equally bad. Nobody came to ask if we wanted wine when our meals arrived. Nobody asked how our food was. Nobody came around so we could even ask for salt for the bland food, wine or anything. We will not be back.

    Promptly seated upon arrival and provided menu with the specials of the month mentioned. Our wine order was taken promptly and the server remembered us from several months ago. The appetizers arrived and we had the caesar salad made tableside, the chateaubriand was made rare (the way we like it) followed by crepes made at tableside. The Petales d'Osoyoos was a very nice wine, light and complimented the chateaubriand.

    It was our first time there, we entered the charming restaurant and felt very comfortable and appreciated the history of the building. There was no one to greet us when we walked in, this may have been the start of dinner service at around 6pm. We walked around for 5 or 10 minutes until we noticed someone in a far off room got their attention and was treated with very good service from there. The food was delicious and room was quiet, just what we wanted for that evening.

    the food quality is disappointing. They put so much tabasco in the raw oysters that all we taste is the spiciness. The mussels on the paella went bad and the rice is wet. The seafood platter is horrible. Everything was tasteless. The steak and pork is OK.

    The Old Surrey House was recommended to us. Dinner was a fine dining experience with fabulous, friendly wait staff. Dinner was delicious and priced fairly. It is rare to fine a one of a kind dining establishment.

    We had a great dinner celebrating my mother in laws birthday. The food was great from the appetizer to the main course to dessert. We opted for the Anniversary special which was a starter of crab cakes, then a Caesar salad prepared on a cart in front of us. The main course was steak and lobster. Both cooked very well. The dessert was a Bailey’s flavoured nitro ice cream also prepared on a cart in front of us.

    We have enjoyed this restaurant for around 25 years. Table side Cesar Salad is the best of all restaurants we've been to. Teaks melt in your mouth. Lamb perfectly cooked.

    The Scallops were outstanding. The Seafood Fettuccine was very good. My wife had the Chicken breast, superb. The sauce was amazing. We.had a bottle of wine but none of the waiters would top our glass unless we asked them. Odd.

    The service was top rank: very attentive and gracious. It didn’t matter much that the seafood fettuccine was really linguini, and I could not taste espresso in the “espresso crème brûlée,” but this could have been important to another diner. Nevertheless, the meal was worth the price. It is nice that a quality restaurant will still serve a little complimentary bread.
