We are locals in Monterey and we love Old Fisherman’s Grotto for special occasions, or when we want to feel pampered. From the booth seating to the dark polished wood, to the old standards music, it’s a step back in time to elegance and attentive service by professional wait staff. The food is beautifully prepared and presented. Macadamia crusted halibut is one of our favorites. Be sure to start with their award-winning clam chowder. The views of Monterey Bay are gorgeous.

This is a refined gem in a touristy area. The food was amazing. Our waitress was amazing and the entire staff worked so well together. If you're in Monterey Bay, check out this place.

The menu is big. The clam chowder and calamari are the best anywhere. The owner is there almost every day. A very well run establishment.

My husband and I absolutely love dining at the Old Fisherman’s Grotto. It is our favorite restaurant in Monterey! We love the ambiance and it is always a wonderful and delightful experience. The food is consistently delicious and is always presented so beautifully. The professional service is impeccable! We strongly recommend eating here on your next visit.

We noticed on the open table app that the restaurant did not cater to children at any age. We just had a baby and our on our first trip after he was born. Upon arriving to the restaurant we weren’t gretted with a hello, but the host rudely pointing at the “children’s policy” and asking us if we knew about it and that it was strictly enforced. We told them we’d seen it and she motioned to another host to seat us. The young man told us that he was going to put us at a both but since we “had to bring our baby” it wouldn’t work. We assured him we could indeed fit in a booth he walked us upstairs. When we walked into the dining room all eyes from other customers was on us. We had a hundred pairs or eyes along with staff giving us dirty looks for bringing in a baby. Throughout the meal a gentleman behind us was talking extremely loudly and he was never asked to be quiet! Our baby was asleep the entire meal, and still the staff tried to rush us out. I’ve never felt so unwanted in my life… food was ok, but not worth the dirty looks we recieved!

Me and My wife come here every once a Month! We love it! They use to take reservations on the phone but using open table has been such a better outcome for everyone that actually shows up to their reservations👍 Prices are reasonable compared to Fish Hopper. Not only that the Food is Spectacular! Especially the sea food Risotto or Captains Platter!

This was not just a meal, but an experience that touched our hearts deeply. It was our second visit to this magical place, and we are already dreaming of returning again and again. We found a haven, a sanctuary where we could escape the chaos of the world and savor every moment. For us, this place will always hold a special spot in our hearts.

What can I say? The Grotto treats each customer with respect. Chris Shake takes time to greet each table to say hello and makes you feel welcomed. Our Server was Ricardo and he was super. From the hostess to the entire staff, we say Thank You!

I would have preferred a simple grilled piece of fish, potato, veggies, rather than the huge portion of crusted fish and high-fat risotto. The service was much better than the food. You Tube led us astray.

The food and service at Old Fisherman’s Grotto was amazing. The seafood was fresh and tasty. The service was perfect. The server recommended a wine to go with our meal. The wine he recommended fit well with the food. The atmosphere was great. My family and I had a nice unobstructed view of the bay. The hostess was helpful and kind. The deserts were fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend the Old Fisherman’s Grotto. We will go back!

Old Fisherman’s Grotto has been our “go-to” Monterey restaurant for over 25 years. Everyone is so kind and courteous, from Chris Shake, the owner, Miguel, our favorite server, and Marvin our favorite assistant server. The food is great and the service is superior and help make Old Fisherman’s Grotto stand out amongst all the great restaurants on Fisherman’s Warf. We have an Autistic son and everyone on the staff, from Chris Shake, on down, bend over backwards to make son feel welcome. We are treated like family. I highly recommend dining at the Old Fisherman’s Grotto. Come for the superior food, stay for the outstanding service.

The staff was so very helpful for my parent’s 63rd Wedding Anniversary!! I live in Oakdale and that is my parent’s favorite spot on the Wharf!! They took wonderful care of my parents and even reserved a window seat with a Happy Anniversary desert as well!! Truly made my heart happy!! Thank you !! P.S. My parents were so excited and in a food comatose when they were home last evening!! LOL!! That should say it all!! Thank you again Kellie Gookin from Oakdale, CA

First visited this restaurant 30 years ago. It is family owned for 74 years so must do it well. Given the location on the kitschy warf it has always GREATLY exceeded expectations in every way: friendly service, food quality and freshness, old-school cozy ambiance, expertise. Always worth a visit.

We had an amazing experience, we came in for a 6 month anniversary dinner, I had requested a table with a view of the water and they had it reserved and ready for us. Jaime was an amazing waiter, he took great care of us, constantly checked in when we needed things and even brought us a free piece of amazing cheesecake for the table for the anniversary. The food was amazing, their chowder is a must-have, no matter what else we're ordering, the calamari was perfectly crisp and our steaks were perfect as well. I've always loved coming to the Old Fisherman's Grotto, and this experience made me love it even more, I will definitely be back.

We enjoyed macadamia encrusted halibut, coconut prawns, seafood trio, steamed clams, and key lime pie. All were excellent! Halibut came with generous amounts of green vegetables and yams. We had a nice bay view, and service was friendly and attentive. I’ll definitely return when visiting Monterey.
