The experience went from disappointing to downright frustrating. This was a far cry from the top rated restaurant in San Diego we had read about. We showed up for our reservation and were sat down at a table that hadn't been set; an understandable problem. It took us about 30 minutes to get a server's attention to order drinks. By the time we got them, a family of five was seated in our section and had received drinks and appetizers. We ordered our own starters, the fish poke and the Caesar salad. By the time the starters arrived, the family had been served their mains. The starters didn't come with personal plates, despite us splitting them, and the poke's sauce came 5 minutes after the poke itself was served, after we'd eaten more than a third of it. We had to flag our server again because we hadn't been able to place main dish orders yet. I attempted to order the duo duck, but they were out of it; this became a theme. I ordered the miso salmon. My partner ordered the bouillabaisse. The dishes arrived an hour after we'd been seated, and we ordered another round of drinks. Our water hasn't been refilled at this point. My fiance took a bite of her bouillabaisse only to find it was full of shards of shell, like biting into broken glass. We flagged another server, and asked to speak with a manager. We still had no second round of drinks or water. He came over and apologized that it was such a busy night, and offered to send us our server to bring us a menu to choose another dish. Our server brought her a menu, when she ordered the shrimp ceviche. About 5 minutes later, he came back to let us know that they were out of the dish, and suggested the fish poke, which we'd had as starter. She asked for the Tuna Steak; they were out of the dish. She then ordered the tomato mozzarella flatbread. No more attention came; our waters remained empty; we went to the front to pay and leave. They didn't comp us for anything. Go elsewhere for seafood; Oceana is probably out of it.

We had to wait over 20 minutes just for someone to come and take our drink order. During that time, at least 8 different servers/employees and 2 individuals that appeared to be managers walked past our table, glance over at us, and keep walking. When our server finally came over, he helped the table next to us first, even though they were seated close to 10 minutes after us. The phrases of the night was “thanks for your patience,” “it will be right out,” and “our sushi kitchen is slow tonight.” Although we did order sushi, our appetizers were not out right away as told, but came out cold. We were seated outside, which would have been great except many guest at the resort were walking around screaming, and acting like fools. Overall, it was not a great experience. The only thing that made the meal tolerable was the food was very good. Maybe on a different night or weekend, this place is better, but I won’t try to find out.

With a 4 course meal we didn’t expect 3 courses of deep fried crab. Soup to start. The only veg in sight was a few cherry tomatoes and a dash of micro greens. We were expecting a more balanced meal. Pretty weak. We wished we had ordered off the regular menu.

To be fair on my ok review, it actually ended up being a review of their bar menu next door to oceana but we thought we were booking oceana which is the whole problem we experienced with this booking. They called us to say they needed to move the time of the res due to mothers day brunch ending at a certain time which we could not make so they said we could still come and order off the regular lunch menu but neglected to tell us it wouldnt be on the patio at oceana anymore so we were out in a hallway patio with the bar menu next door to oceana - not the same at all! Dissappointed as we wanted the patio view from oceana and I would still like to try it but now hesitant.

Absolutely love this restaurant. Staff, venue, outdoor seating, food and beverages were excellent. Shrimp ceviche, scallops and swordfish meatballs were thoroughly enjoyed. The entire professional team works hard to meet your needs and we had a great evening. Will return.
