From our famous focaccia and dipping oil, to our legendary pizza, salads, and sandwiches, we offer something for everyone at Not Your Average Joe's. Not Your Average Joe's Watertown is located on Main Street in Watertown, MA. We are steps from the Watertown Free Public Library, and minutes from the Arsenal Mall and Charles River.

We are conveniently located up the road from Athena Health's expansive campus, the Perkins School for the Blind, and Watertown High School. Nearby lodging includes the Super 8 Watertown/Cambridge/Boston Area, Crowne Plaza Boston -Newton, and the Residence Inn by Marriot Boston Watertown.

I booked a reservation on OpenTable for 6:30 and when I got there, he hostess said she didn’t have the reservation and they don’t associate with OpenTable. Weird because I used to work at a NYAJ location and we always use OpenTable. After 30 minutes we finally got sat and the service was awful. Our server did not introduce himself and didn’t check in on us once.

NYAJ is always reliable, and is thus our standby restaurant. The bread and garlic oil dip is awesome, and I always look forward to having it. The food is tasty and they often come up with dishes that are a bit innovative - but never too far from a known staple, which is something I like. In my case they had a seasonal dish - Chicken Milanese - which I hope becomes a permanent entree.Service and drinks are good too. Only critique: noise level is occasionally too high. Personally I think it's due to the acoustics, as the restaurant has high ceilings and brick walls. Neverless, still a great reliable, "go to" place.

Great meal and friendly service. Steak tips were cooked to the right temperature and waitress was very patient with our multiple requests. One of our favorite places for a good but casual meal.

My friends took me here for my birthday, as this is my favorite restaurant. We had such a good time, and the food as always, was so good! I had my favorite…grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. And our waitress was so sweet!

Horrible experience. Only good thing about our time were the drinks and appetizers. Waitress and kitchen got 2/4 dishes wrong, and the nachos we ordered tasted like they had a whole bottle of salt dumped on them. Restaurant wasn’t busy at all only 3 tables filled in the whole restaurant. We will not be back!

4 of us had a wonderful lunch experience at NYAJ. We were seated right away, had a very attentive waitress and all the food was excellent and brought out very quickly. We always love coming to NYAJ for all those reasons. Good food, good service and good ambience.

Unfortunately the worst NYAJ experience I've had in many visits - and had three guests with me who were all unhappy with the visit. The food was not up to standard - the steak tips tough, burger tasted weird, super crunch salad short on chicken, which was tough. Service fine, but overwhelming impressions were of the blasting freezing cold A/C on a cold, windy day - had to wrap ourselves in scarves and jackets. Finally, the rest rooms are an absolute horror. Apparently open to passersby, easily accessible by street, stall doors unreliable, tons of toilet paper on floor, no soap at sinks but sinktops soaking with water. (ladies room). This has been a problem for years, but with all the other problems, I think this was my last visit.

We waited a long long time for the bread and our drinks.Our meals came 1 min after we got bread and drinks. The few waiters- waitresses have to many tables. Last time was very slow as well. The food was very good though. I got chicken piccata and friend had a korean beef bowl. Had peanut butter thing for dessert. We split that as usual except that the dessert is now about half the original size. It tasted great though. We’ll definitely be back.

NYAJ’s in Watertown is my go to place with friends. There’s plenty of parking out back, it’s conveniently located, and the staff is always fun and friendly. I love the menu staples and enjoy seeing new additions and seasonal menu options. I do wish they would bring back my favorite dish, which was the pan-seared scallops with Israeli couscous and veggies, it was heavenly!

My wife ordered risotto with scallops and shrimp. I ordered a margherita pizza. The risotto was delivered along with a Mediteranian pizza. By the time the correct pizza was delivered, my wife had finished her meal. Not good.

Chowder came out lukewarm. They replaced it quickly. Bread was cold. Supposed to bring more but didn’t. Green beans weren’t cooked. Jambalaya was very good. Nice wait staff. Usually have better meals there

The Ahi Tuna salad was not good. Way too much dressing. Others in group seemed to like their food though.

I’ve been to Not Your Average Joe’s many, many times. This was the first time I’ve had terrible service. It was perfectly clear by the statement, muttered under our servers breath (that all 5 of us heard loud and clear), that we were bothering the server. It wasn’t even busy. I’m sorry if you had a bad day, but don’t take it out on your customers. They will not return.

The hostess was busy so it was difficult getting her attention. I ordered the harvest salad special after lunch so I could bring it home with me. When I took it out of the bag I was very disappointed. For the value, there was barely any kale or spinach, three small cubes of roasted and not much else. It looked like the kitchen ran out of produce and scrapped together bottom of the bags.

We had a small work celebration here last night and the service could not have been better. We were grateful to have a very pleasant and extremely patient server as it took us a long time to slow down our chatter enough to make our menu selections - she really did a great job. Many thanks also to the rest of the staff for allowing us to continue sitting for a long time (we had so much to talk about!!). The food was good as usual, and altogether a great experience.

The food quality/selection has definitely improved in the last few years. Very happy to see it. Value/prices always reasonable. A good option when pricier restaurants are not warranted.

We were hesitant to go to NYAJs due to not so good reviews. Our meals were great though. Service was good. I love their chicken piccata. We’ll be back soon.

We had reservations and were seated promptly. The server was patient as some had menu questions. The fish and chips was nice and hot and crunchy. All five lived their meals.

Had a great night celebrating my son’s 18th birthday! Our waitress I believe her name was Jessica or Jess. She was the nicest waitress and so friendly and attentive….without us asking she brought out a birthday dessert for my son with a candle ….she was awesome!!!!!

The waitperson was very nice but the food was quite disappointing with overcooked dry chicken, very thick bland tomato soup, bland dumplings and a very tough biscuit for the strawberry shortcake. We’ve gone here for years and we’re very disappointed.

Took my two grandsons for lunch Sat. afternoon. ( 5 years old and 20 months old.) The hostess set us up with the perfect table to accommodate our needs for a high chair and booth seating. Our server was amazing and super helpful with our food selection. (5yr. old is gluten and dairy allergic and he helped with my choices and double-checked everything with the chef for safety. ) Not Your Average Joe's even has a Gluten Friendly Kids Menu!!!! to choose from. I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

The Service was great and the beer was nice and cold. Unfortionatly the food was way below average Joe. Haven't been there in a while. I order my favorite haddock dish and it turned out it was as far as I could tell an old piece of cod that tasted like it has been frozen and rethawed a couple of times. The accompanied mashed potatato were old an inedible. Its unfortionate that NYAJ has gone so far down hill.

My choice of the jambalaya was flavorful, but it was pretty thin/liquidy and was served in a very shallow plate, which means the liquid sloshed easily over the sides. My friend ordered the chicken piccata and immediately sent it back because it was very sour, overly lemony. The waitress was very kind in offering to have something else made and thankfully we were not met with much resistance. The most annoying part, though, were the fruit flies that constantly made their way to our table and we were batting away through most of the meal. I used to really like NYAJ but they seem to be going downhill.
