We liked the food but the portion sizes were a little small and it was a little too loud inside. Each dish was brought out separately which helped the experience and the staff was attentive and polite.

Misti our server was exceptional. She help guide us through the process which made our experience most enjoyable. My daughter truly had a wonderful Birthday experience and Mother’s Day was awesome.

This was our first Nobu experience so I'm now curious if they are all the same. 1st off, the food was great. The service was pretty good although I found myself waiting for drinks. Now what I didn't love was how noisy it was - it was hard to talk- and how expensive it was. I knew it would be high but it was VERY high. I don't know if that CA costs or if all of them are that high. If we ever go back to another one, we will modify how much we order if that is the standard Nobu pricing.

I enjoyed a really delicious, well-plated meal on my birthday. The food was up to Nobu's highest standards. However, the pacing of the service was problematic. The second course arrived while my sister (who was treating me) and I still had 1/3-1/2 of the food from the first course still on our plate. I told our server that "I wasn't going to send that back," but that I was "inviting the team to slow down so that we could enjoy the meal, and that it's unacceptable for a plate to arrive while someone is still finishing the prior course." After the second course, our server changed--and the new server indicated that he had been given the message that I conveyed to the initial server. He did absolutely fine until the Wagyu beef course (at which point a third server got into the mix). He brought that while we still had half of our (really quite delicious) black cod in front of us. That hot course was cold by the time we got to it. On the way home, I asked my sister how she dealt with the tip. She said "I left 15%, and I felt really conflicted. 20% was out of the question, because that felt rushed and kind of bad--but I worried that the overly-fast courses may have been the kitchen's fault--and as a teacher, understand how much servers need to get paid what they're expecting, because we live in a really expensive city." I'd agree with that. If the timing issue lies with the restaurant management software, then I'd suggest that Nobu add 7-12 minutes between courses when people are ordering a 7 course tasting menu with drinks and edamame to start. On the other hand, I appreciate that people in the bar who order two sushi rolls and 6 nigiri want to enjoy some delicious bites with their drinks. Speed makes sense here--and they'll probably order more of everything. So, what the managers need to know is that the food was great, but that the service was repeatedly rushed. I'd note however, that the gent who was bussing our section was amazing (bearded guy). Thank him.

The food was great, albeit overpriced, and certain quantities not specified. The boise was loud enough that we could barely hear our server talking to us, or each other at a small 2 person table. We were only offered bottled water and not tap, so even though we ordered still water, it was a huge undisclosed up-charge. The menu was not descriptive at all of the interesting sauces or flavors that accompanied the type of fish, so it was difficult to make confident selections, relying on our server’s not-so-helpful descriptions/knowledge, which we could barely hear anyway. We were handed the drink the drink menu before the dinner menu (why can’t we receive them at the same time??), and when we were handed the food menu, we were literally immediately asked if we’d like an appetizer, when we had just disclosed it was both of our first times there, and therefore need to look at the menu. Attention was either too responsive, or too long in between (hovering or MIA). Overall did not live up to the Nobu reputation and hype. Will not return.

This is unlike any Nobu I have ever dined in. Very loud and the ambience looks as though it was converted from another restaurant into a Nobu. It wasn’t bad just not what I expected having dined a more than a few of these restaurants

Did not enjoy at all and we went at a time when it wasn’t very busy. Service felt cold and unwelcoming. The food was very mediocre and seemed like it had been frozen and was still thawing. Will not be going back.

First time here, super excited. Definitely worth the $$$. Everything is so fresh & tasty. We had the warm mushroom salad, yellowtail jalapeño & bluefin tuna.

Nobu San Diego was just ok. The ambiance was typical of a Nobu, moody, dark, loud. We sat at the sushi bar to have more light & less noise. The service was good, as expected. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. The miso cod was inedible, so sweet & burned. $400 dollars later for 3 people, we left totally unimpressed. I'd recommend skipping this place & finding some local restaurant.

Great experience! It was our first time dining at a Nobu but we wanted to do something special for our anniversary. The food was excellent and service was quick and efficient. They even added some personal touches for our dessert by writing “happy anniversary” in chocolate on the plate. I thought that was a thoughtful touch.

We typically visit the Nobu locaitons in Las Vegas, Miami and recently Tokyo. Had to move here for a job so live downtown which is a quick jaunt to Nobu San Diego. Went for my sister’s birthday and was disappointed by the service. At the Tokyo location we just went to several times the service is amazing and thoughtful. The manager will come and check on you to make sure everything is good. Not here, service is unfortunately poor here compared to other locations. Food is average and portions smaller compared to Tokyo. They also sat us in a dark corner and server did not even acknowledge my sister’s birthday. The Las Vegas locations always welcome special celebrations. This site needs improvement with better management and staff training. Not up to Nobu standards.

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe this dining experience! It’s a one of a kind special night that everyone should treat themselves to at least once in their lives. From start to finish every single dish was like an explosion of heaven in our mouths. You simply cannot go wrong. Order plenty and try it all and you will not be disappointed! Drinks, food, service, ambience, and everything were spectacular. The best!

Food was amazing. Our primary server was great however the secondary server was a bit clumsy and made a mess collecting the plates. I’m assuming they won’t foot the bill for dry cleaning…

Front of the house sitting too many tables at once destroys the service of what is supposed to be an upscale experience. 1.5 hours to receive your entree is not inline with what Nobu was in the past. Maybe it is what Nobu is now which is a shame. I will miss what Nobu was.

I’ve been to a couple Nobu’s, but this one was the worst by far in terms of food. The food quality was subpar. The yellowtail tasted like ham and they used too much sauce on the seafood dishes. Couldn’t really taste any of the fish. I would come back for the service and drinks, not the food.
