Curries: To us, curry means a sauce made with different blends of spices. Different curry sauces are made to cook different dishes such as poultry, meat, vegetables, seafood, etc. Therefore, each curry dish tastes different from the other, depending on the spices used in that particular dish and its particular blend. Curries in India have nothing to do with the yucky yellow stuff from the bottle or the tube called curry powder or paste; but a whole new world of never-ending delightful celebration of new flavors. All our curry dishes are cooked to order. Please tell us your taste preference of mild, medium, wild or dangerous to enjoy your meal to the fullest. Kindly allow us 15-20 minutes, because we cook each dish individually

They took a 1030 res on open table and then complained. Built in 20% unearned gratuity...

Our kitchen is open until 11 pm, and diners are welcome to join us until then. It is standard industry practice in San Francisco to include a service fee. You will find this at most restaurants, especially fine-dining establishments.

The amazing owner, Ranjan, is omnipresent and it shows. Such great service. Loved his banter. And the food was marvelous. The restaurant itself is a grand, voluminous old dining hall. Recommend!

A great indian restaurant with a deceiving entrance door. Wonderful ambiance, great food and great service. Celebrated their 35 years in business and it shows! We actually got to meet the owner/Chef Ranjan Dey who signed a menu for us! He's so nice and down to earth, we even got to meet his wife, daughter and son in law! We wiped up all the food with the nan bread, nothing left on our plates. Our first time but not our last time. We flew from Hawaii to try this restaurant for our Anniversary and it didn't disappoint!

We found our new favorite Indian restaurant! Food is full of flavor and very authentic. First time I had Sag Paneer and actually tasted the spinach. We also ordered samosas, lamb korma and chicken tikka masala. All were delicious. Service was quick and the owner was very charming. Overall wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend.

We celebrated my friend’s birthday and it was a fun, festive time at New Delhi! We enjoyed the exotic cocktails, attentive service, excellent Indian cuisine and the fabulous rice pudding dessert with soaked honey bread! Yummy! Do yourself a favor and go!

I enjoyed a meal here during my last trip to San Francisco four years ago. So, I wanted to visit here again. The food was delicious and the service attentive. We were a party of three, sharing a vegetarian appetizer platter. For entrees we had Paneer Tikka Masala, Palak Kofta Kahmiri and Kofta Shah Jahani. We were all interested in the Thali combination dinners, but they were not available. Given prices at other nearby restaurants, the cost for our meal was relatively reasonable.

Very average food at a very expensive price. I have eaten indian food all over the world including India and the foid here although not bad was certainly not the best.

Really enjoyed our visit here. Indian food is my favorite cuisine so I have very high standards. The meal was excellent but not the best I've ever had, hence the 4 stars. Our servers were very kind and helpful, and the ambience is very classy. I would look forward to eating here again

So good! Indian food is my favorite so whenever I travel I usually try an Indian restaurant. This place was hands down the best Indian food I have ever had. Staff were attentive and the whole vibe of the place was excellent!

We ordered Garlic Naan. Since we know about Indian restaurants, we specifically asked about the number of pieces that they make if we order 1 Naan. Server as well as the owner answered it's 1 piece per Naan. So we ordered 4 Naans in total for 2 of us. We got shocked to see the chef brought us 16 pieces of Naan. When enquired, the owner simply said it's a miscommunication and restaurant is not responsible. The attitude he shown was really worst, so does the quality and taste of the food (Garlic Naan and Paneer masala). They are greedy and cunning. not worth to visit here.

Chef Tasting Menu is one of the most popular offerings. I understand that the menu may not fit the palate of someone looking for staple chicken masala. Diners visit a restaurant for the chef’s twist on the dish. The Spicy Madras Tamarind Chicken and Lemon Mustard Cauliflower are some of the flavorful and popular dishes. I understand it may not fit an individual’s personal taste. Next time, please let us know so we can tweak the dishes, since we visit your table multiple times while dining.

The overall experience was splendid! For my special entreé, their presentation was impeccable, and the spices were just right, as well as its spice level. Masala chai was the boldest ever! The service went well from start to finish. Might come again in a later future.

It's really heartening to read your appreciation of the cuisine, service, and interiors, Joan. Interestingly, the historic dining hall where you enjoyed your meal, is mostly unchanged since it was built over 100-years ago. It is a pristine example of the Beaux-Arts style of architecture prevalent in San Francisco at the time, and one of the reasons the City of San Francisco awarded us the rare honor of "Legacy Business" status. We read the reviews and thought, this might be a great place. We were HIGHLY disappointed with the food! Extremely disappointed actually. Very dry dry chicken and meat. Extremely overcooked! It tasted like it had been sitting there for a few days. We hated the food, so we left immediately after the appetisers and didn't want to order anything else, wasting our money. I would never recommend or come to this Restaurant again. Only plus was the Taj beer.

Reenap, as you said, you only had appetizers, and didn't like the meat. The appetizers on the menu with meat, are Chicken Fritter, Fried Chicken Pakora, Fried Fish Pakora, & Assorted Tandoori Platter (different meats from tandoor). None of these are served in gravy, so naturally, they are dry finger-food. Each of our dishes is made from the freshest ingredients, and cooked after the order is placed. So I am very puzzled by your comment that our food is bad, without having tried the main menu.
