Monteiths bar & restaurant is nestled in a fairy-lit close in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. It took almost a full hour to get our food. And when the food came, the portions were so small. The taste was just alright. The prices were high, so the value was terrible. The only things this place has going for it, are the sweet staff and the ambiance.

Very good meal and service. Enjoyed the pork belly and beef cheeks as well as the chicken liver pate appetizer. Thought the “greens” side dish was meh but everything else was tasty and well prepared.

Small tables Understaffed Slow Service Too LOUD to be enjoyable No bags for Take away boxes. Huge menu with only 20 items on it. Yorkshire pudding burned.

We had booked our table 2 months in advance as visiting Edinburgh for the weekend. It was very busy when we arrived on time for our booking. We had popped in earlier in the day and had been told which table we would be have that evening. Unfortunately we were told our table wasn’t ready and not sure how long we would have to wait and were then asked to sit at the bar to wait and were offered tap water rather than a complimentary drink. It was only by chance that another couple left that we were given an alternative table - which wasn’t as nice as the one we had been originally allocated. Once we were seated the service was very good and the food was superb. It was a shame that our initial experience on arrival was disappointing as this could have been handled much better.
