Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant delivers one of the most unique and innovative dining experiences to Vancouver. Minami follows the pioneering footsteps of sister restaurant, Miku for introducing the Aburi style or flame seared technique to Vancouver’s thriving sushi scene in 2008. Aburi sushi requires no soy sauce or wasabi, as the chefs create specialty sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to complement the flavor properties of each variety of fish.

From the kitchen, seasonal and regional ingredients are integrated into dishes to reflect the diversity of responsible food choices. Traditionally trained Japanese chefs are inspired by global flavors and cutting edge techniques to create a new style of cuisine. The culinary approach evokes passion and beauty, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware, handpicked by owner, Seigo Nakamura.

All 6 of us celebrating a birthday of 1, thoroughly enjoyed the chef’s omakase. The sushi rolls and dessert stood out among the excellent courses!

My daughter and I chose the chef’s curated menu. The food was delicious, an A+. Hannah , our server was very friendly, pleasant and so welcoming. I’ll recommend Minami to friends who will visit Vancouver. Thank you. From happy guests coming from the SF Bay Area, CA.

It was my first time in Vancouver. My colleague and I were looking for a sushi restaurant and Minami was suggested to us by a local. Amazing food. Tasty and beautifully presented. Our waitress Kaylee was great. She knew that menu in and out and was able to help us make a decision when we were unsure of what and home many pieces of sushi we should order. If you are in that area, do not hesitate and to try this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

The ambience good be better by dimming the lights a bit. It also was very noisy and hard to have a conversation with anyone at the table.

My boyfriend and I went to Minami for the celebration of his birthday. We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Minami. We each ordered the seven-course and it was seamless. The food was amazingly delicious and the service was amazing as well. We had such a great experience with Minami and we will definitely visit again!!

Bailey was a lovely server. She was engaging and knew the menu well. We started with the feature cocktail for cherry blossom season, had oysters, Salmon Oshi, Ebi Oshi and the Bluefin Redwave roll. All excellent. Shared the Green Tea Opera 16 dessert while enjoying sparkling rosé. I love dining at Minami!

The food was excellent. Best Oshi I've ever had, especially the salmon. The squid katsu, however, is still blowing my mind a day later. I didn't think squid could even be prepared in a katsu form, but it was so incredibly flavourful and tender and full of juice. Would come back just for that.

It was very hard to find our server. I had to go to the bar cashier to order, twice. It was not the server’s fault. She just had too many tables to serve.

The food is delicious, but the portions are too small, and the prices are too high. The service attitude is good, but you have to wait for over ten minutes before the staff comes over.

Was disappointed with the visit. Long wait for the food, I did have reservations and was seated fast. Unkind cold staff. Would not recommend. Food was average at best.

We love coming to Minami! We don’t come as often anymore, but whenever we do, we always enjoy our experience. The food is delicious; we ordered 2 oshi samplers, a bluefin red wave roll, a ocean roll, a champagne roll, a kaisen soba peperoncino, a kyoto sparkles cocktail and a little emperor mocktail. They have some of the best Asian-inspired drinks that pair beautifully with the food. Our waitress was super kind and friendly; our only minor complaint was that the kitchen was quite slow even though it wasn’t prime dinner time yet and the restaurant was only half full. Overall, it was still a great evening and we will definitely be back!

As always, we had a stellar experience, recently, at Minami. The sushi is delectable, the fine sake a perfect complement, and we enjoyed our service interaction with the personable and attentive Bailey. Highly recommended. Our go-to restaurant in Vancouver for a first-rate dining experience!

It took a very long time for food to arrive - there was quite a slow down and then about 10-15 minutes after we asked for our bill, it came. We had communicated that we needed to go somewhere but it didn’t speed anything up.

I'm guessing much like their sister restaurant Miku, Minami has definitely seen better days & surviving off the hype of yesteryear. Service is good, knowledgeable, attentive & friendly, but you should expect that from a restaurant at this price point. To start we had the Aka Miso Duck L'Orange. While the flavour & presentation was good, the duck was chewy. Minami Sashimi was unfortunately pretty sad. The deep fried prawn head was oily & the 6 pieces of sashimi were quite small & definitely not the best sashimi I've had. At the price point of $35 it actually just adds insult to injury. Next the Edomae, which is a selection of Nigiri was hit & miss. The ebi & few others were very dry & the balance of the pieces were okay. I can't put my finger on it, but there was nothing on that platter that I would say I have to have again. There were two items that I enjoyed. One was the Uni special, an Uni Cone w/Caviar. which was absolutely delicious and dessert, the Cherry Almond Cocoa Tart. The dessert was an event in & of itself & the presentation was beautiful. Could I have said something, yes. But at that level, you shouldn't have to. Overall we're spoiled here in Vancouver with amazing sushi at affordable prices. Unfortunately Minami is not one of those places.

We ordered the Premium Select assortment for a delicious ladies lunch with green tea and were 100% pleased and satisfied. Our table and the quiet service were awesome, a great reunion of old friends was had, thank you

Food is delicious. The best restaurant for sushi. I don’t even like any other sushi unless it’s from Minami. Our server was also amazing. She knew what’s good, our server name was Adrienne.

I think Minami’s food quality wise is definitely down! I remember I used to go there have good value of food , now it’s like I pay $39.00 for the Zen set it’s not worth! The steak was too salty and the salad was so ordinary! Only the sushi and the shrimp fried was good! Little bit disappointed.

Overall a pretty decent experience, though for the amount of money I paid for dinner I found the experience to be a little lacking. If you're going to charge people $10 per piece of nigiri the service should match the quality of the food. We waited nearly 30 minutes to receive our appetizers and by the time we ordered our mains they were already calling for last call. In their defence, I arrived fairly late (around 8:30 pm) and wasn't aware that they closed at 9:30 (my fault for not checking,) which was probably a large part of why the service felt sub-par. Staff were friendly enough, but not very attentive and seemed very eager to get us out of the restaurant. The ambience also spoke more to a business casual setting than fine dining restaurant. The lighting is a little bit harsh and in my opinion far too bright, and the TVs in the corner playing sports aren't exactly what I was looking for while paying $10 per piece of nigiri. I would certainly be willing to go again, but can't help feeling a little disappointed with the experience as the value didn't quite fit the bill.

Our server was terrific, and handled the very different allergies of two of our group members with empathy and solutions which allowed them to share in our group dishes. Wonderful!
