Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant delivers one of the most unique and innovative dining experiences to Vancouver. Minami follows the pioneering footsteps of sister restaurant, Miku for introducing the Aburi style or flame seared technique to Vancouver’s thriving sushi scene in 2008. Aburi sushi requires no soy sauce or wasabi, as the chefs create specialty sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to complement the flavor properties of each variety of fish.

From the kitchen, seasonal and regional ingredients are integrated into dishes to reflect the diversity of responsible food choices. Traditionally trained Japanese chefs are inspired by global flavors and cutting edge techniques to create a new style of cuisine. The culinary approach evokes passion and beauty, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware, handpicked by owner, Seigo Nakamura.

    The food and service are spectacular. I found the drink menu to be overpriced but so is every other place in Vancouver.

    My server was incredibly knowledgeable and gave great recommendations to enhance the experience. The Chefs absolutely nailed the quality!

    Dinner took way too long. We had the kaseki. There was some sort of mixup after the first course so we waited half an hr for the next course. Way too loud at the restaurant. They need to add some carpet to absorb or cut down on reflecting surface that might amplify noise.

    The seafood and fish were very fresh and the rice is of excellent quality, we always enjoy a meal at Minami

    This is not you typical Japanese restaurant. The fish is fresh and the twists (smokey soy sauce) are worth the trip. Our amazing server, Bailey, guided us through our meal and we loved everything we tried. This is a great restaurant if you love Japanese food and are adventurous and willing to try something out of the box from the norm. Would not miss it! Be sure to ask for Bailey.
