Passionnés par les produits frais du marché et les techniques traditionnelles de la cuisine française, Florent et Amelia Marneau ont ouvert ce bistro français moderne au cœur du comté d'Orange. Durant plusieurs décennies, le couple a travaillé séparément dans quelques-unes des meilleures cuisines de France et du comté d'Orange. C'est tout naturellement qu'ils se sont associés pour créer le Marché Moderne et mettre en commun leurs compétences en tant que restaurateurs indépendants. Situé au troisième étage de l'espace The Penthouse, dans le centre commercial South Coast Plaza, en face de Nordstrom, ce bistro français contemporain est encensé par la critique depuis son ouverture en 2007.

The entire experience was phenomenal. From the very charming maître d’, to our wonderful server Ryan. It was our thirtieth anniversary and they really made us feel special. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and every dish was absolutely delightful. I can very highly recommend Marché Moderne and we can’t wait to go back.

It is my favorite date night spot for a many reasons! Every bite of food is well thought & crafted! Chef knows what he is doing. The flow of the dishes is remarkable, the timing is excellent and if you are as lucky as we are you will sit in Larissa’s section every time! She is sweet and professional, and will make your evening 10x better. Side note; not sure how chef made the scallop & dates work but the absolutely do who would have thought? Probably my favorite bite of the evening.

Marché Moderne remains by far the best French restaurant in Orange County, and one of the top 2 or 3 in all of southern CA. The food, service and ambiance are all excellent, and Larissa is the best server anywhere. The Dover sole was superb! For a special occasion, MM cannot be beat!

Very interesting menu with creative choices. Wait staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Menu and wine pairing suggestions were very good. We requested a quiet table due to a guests hearing impairment and they were very accommodating. Wonderful experience and lovely meal. We will return.

A glorious and intimate experience. This is the place for your special evening. Marché Moderne can even be an antidote to elevate and reset in a low moment. Plan to linger and savor the incredible cuisine and the gracious service.

It was our first trip to Marche Moderne and it didn’t disappoint. Our waiter Evan really set the stage from the very beginning with his deep knowledge of the menu and his enthusiasm for a great experience - great job Evan! My only regret was they were out of the sole by the time we got there. The lobster special was delicious. We are looking forward to going again!

The menu is varied and interesting with a few additions each evening. The caviar plate is a perfectly sized shared 'starter.' The wine menu is well chosen and varied. The half carafe house white wine was a good choice for a 3 glass couple that pairs well the fish and vegetarian menu options.

My birthday dinner was so delightful!! We had the best booth and our server Phillipe was so nice and helpful. The Truffle & Mascarpone Cheese with toasted baguette was so good. I loved the Coq au vin and Steak au poivre was yummy. The complimentary birthday treat made it all the more special. Thank You!! We will be back.

As always the food and service is extraordinary. Larissa has been our server for years. The staff is so welcoming, I feel as if I am family. Highly recommend this gem.

We celebrated my birthday in our favorite booth with my favorite server, Larissa. We shared a Manhattan A L’Orange and a special appetizer of Sepia or cuttlefish with a puréed cauliflower. Both were delicious. We also had the Coq Au Vin and Lamb Shank which were memorable. Generous portions to take home.

An enjoyable dining experience. Our Waiter Ryan was very knowledgeable about the dishes and was friendly and efficient. The dishes we had the Thai lobster and the clam alfredo was very tasty. Complex flavors in all the dishes. We did feel that the dishes could be elevated slightly for a Michelin restaurant. Also slowing down the pace slightly would be more relaxed. Giving diners a chance to catch their breath is always the sense of luxury one feels in fine dining. The specials menu is quite a lot to take in so slowing down that verbal iteration would be helpful. Lovely vibrant ambience. Diners were definitely enjoying themselves. The decor is modern and cosy at the same time. Great evening

I recently came here with my husband for my birthday dinner. It was our first time dining here. I got the 5 course dinner and my husband ordered a main entree, a salad and two appetizers. The food portions weren't large, but they still managed to be very filling. We were full before we even got our entrees! Our server was thoughtful enough to suggest he could see if he could cancel my husband's entree, which the kitchen was able to do. Everything was very tasty and innovative. We especially loved my little prawn broth, the scallops and the octopus. You can't go wrong starting off with bread either.

Love this place and try to go once a month. The lamb shank was excellent.

We had many enjoyable dinners at Marche Moderne when it was in the old location. In its present location, not so much. If you are expecting the same level of French Bistro character and charm you might be disappointed. The noise level was extremely distracting, the place too busy for dining pleasure. In spite of that I admit our server did a fantastic job, but there are too many sub-servers involved, who come to your table without knowing what you’ve just discussed with the last one. The steak frites were excellent, as was the dessert, but the risotto was made with mushrooms preserved in vinegar, instead of fresh produce, and the taste of vinegar was overwhelmingly unpleasant.
