Wanted to try some place new today for Mother’s Day. We got there at 1:45 when our reservation was for 2pm. We were seated right away. Water was brought to our table 15 minutes after we were seated and the gentleman asked if our waitress had been by. We replied no. Our waitress didn’t come to our table until 15 minutes later and just took our drink order. Another 15 minutes later, our drinks were delivered and she took our order (This brings us to 2:30). Our appetizer was not brought to the table until 3pm when the hostess said we were caught in the middle of brunch and lunch being served. She didn’t apologize but brought us a second appetizer. At 3:30, we finally got our meals…. 1 hour and 45 minutes after we were seated. On the plus side, the food was good. I understand that it is Mother’s Day but the place wasn’t that crowded. There were empty tables. And other than the comment of “you got caught between brunch and lunch”, there was no apology, explanation, or communication from our waitress or anyone whatsoever. People came in 30 minutes after us and left 30 minutes before us. No one seemed to care that we had waited for so long. Just really disappointed with my Mother’s Day dinner and do not feel the need to go back.

We ordered a starter and two entrees. Our waiter apparently forgot to put our order in, as he came over after 45 minutes and tried to take our order again, not remembering that he already did. Waited another 45 minutes for our food, while another couple that came in right before us already left. We did appreciate that he offered us a free dessert for our wait, which we were then charged $2 for! The food was good, but the experience was not.

It’s always a nice place to meet up with friends. Our server, Gavin is so attentive and happy! The food is always delicious. Obviously we will continue to go back. Love this place!

Food was good as always. Service not so much. We had been there and seated for a bit before our server even acknowledged us. He took his sweet time waiting on us. He acted like it was more of an inconvenience that he had to wait on us. Will be back for the food but will request not to be in his section. I don’t know his name because the receipt is in my car but I will make a note of it so I don’t get such poor service again. Was going to say something before we left but did not see the manager either.

Louie's Wine Dive is a go to spot for us. Great for Sunday brunch, we also dinners. Their wine selection is great. More importantly, the team is fantastic!

Please beware! We made reservations here and when we finished we got an e-mail that stated: "This reservation isn’t eligible for you to collect points." I did not see an explanation. The hostess seated a group before us that came in after us (it seemed to us that the group were very friendly with the employees). She then announced no more seating due to a lack of waitresses. SO we sat at the bar. Food was ok, nothing special. Very loud music so it was difficult to talk to each other

Food was outstanding. Place was busy so little loud. Service was fairly good but it took long time to get the wine we ordered to go with dinner. We were over halfway done before we got it. Server was hustling & trying hard - he had to go find our wine bottle. Good enough to give it another try....

We had tickets to the DMCP and dinner before. The staff were very attentive, pleasant and helpful with the menu. Our party loved the food and ambiance!! A great way to kick off our evening activities!

Service was very quick and professional. We arrived during happy hour and did take advantage of drink and appetizer specials. Our server was very good to check back before happy hour ended too. Food was good, and portion sizes were nice. Not gigantic and not skimpy.

Great lunch today, however we do wish we had been able to order from the regular lunch menu at noon rather than just the brunch menu. But we chose to visit on a Saturday. All in all great service and good salads.

We have been to Louie’s many times, but the experience tonight was well below par. They appeared to be understaffed because it took forever for each step of the process, taking your drink order, ordering appetizers, ordering and receiving food. I had the special which was perhaps the most flavorless meal I have ever experienced. Blackened cod that was un blackened on top of quinoa and shaved broccoli, and then a lemon ginger vinaigrette that was left out of the process. The waitress notified the kitchen and their solution was to send me a very small tin of dressing. By the time I had applied the dressing and was able to eat the meal it was cold. It would be a while before I’d go back.

Excellent reasonably priced food. And for those looking for safe gluten-free food, this is THE place to be! Dessert a tad expensive compared to rest of menu but they are delish if you have space left :P

Louie's is one of our go-to places for brunch, lunch and dinner. We love the atmosphere, the wait staff and the quality of the food. We just keep going back. Even though we live across town.

Louie's rarely disappoints , and is one of the best places in Des Moines to go for gluten free options. I highly suggest the squeaky cheese, and their entrees cover a wide variety of flavors.

I've eaten at Louie's numerous times & just hope last night was an aberration. Was seated promptly, then waited 5-10 minutes before being acknowledged by wait staff. After ordering, had a longer than usual wait for food. Many nights this wouldn't matter, but had a 5:30 reservation before a 7:30 show. Once finished with main course, waited again for staff to take a dessert order. After putting in dessert order, waited, and waited, and waited. Wait staff finally checked & we cancelled the order as we didn't have time to eat. Asked if we wanted it to go, but not interested in cold dessert following the show. Wait staff did apologize, but too little too late. Should have checked on dessert well before that. No offer of any compensation i.e. free dessert on future visit or discount on bill, just "very sorry." Yes, we will go back, and I would recommend Louie's to others, but not as highly as in the past.

We have enjoyed Louie’s for so many years. I’m not sure what happened but a fair dinner, slow and inattentive service Friday night. Two hours and we were asking for the check before the desert was dropped.

I gave the food three stars because you didn't have a separate "Wine" category. Food & service were excellent but I was very disappointed in the wine selection. This is concerning since the name is Louie's Wine Dive. I strongly prefer a cabernet. There were no cabernet specials on the chalk board, and there were only two cabernets offered "by the glass" on the menu. One was around $13 a glass (can't remember exactly), and the other one was $19 per glass (Quilt). I ordered the "cheaper" one of the two because I didn't want to pay $19 per glass but the server said you were out of that one so...I felt like I had no choice but to pay for the more expensive wine. I typically drink two glasses, and I hate spending that much money for just my wine. I wish you would have had another cabernet choice that didn't break the bank or offered me the Quilt cabernet at the lesser price since this was the restaurants issue and not mine.

We frequent Louie’s fairly often. Normally our service is excellent and our food arrives quickly. The restaurant was not busy at all during our visit, yet we waited the longest we ever have for our food while watching the kitchen staff chat outside the kitchen area at the bar. Our waitress was not overly friendly, which again is not usually the norm. If this had been our first visit, I’m not sure I’d return to be honest.

The bar was out of some things so couldn't make a signature drink, and they were also out of a Ranch dressing and their brussel sprouts. The waitress was not overly attentive to our table. But, food came quickly, and was good! Nice and quiet atmosphere so easy to visit.

Louie’s has been a favorite meetup spot when I am back in dsm … and today I was pleasantly surprised to find a brunch menu. I ordered the croque madame and honestly, it was awful. I should’ve known when the waitress asked how I wanted my egg cooked (a classic croque madame has a sunny side up egg on top). It was presented as a dry-looking sandwich (?) with a fried egg on the side. The cheese and béchamel were mixed *inside* the sandwich (??) and the cheese wasn’t even melted. There was a very measly slice of ham. It was honestly the worst croque madame I’ve ever seen, and so unappetizing I couldn’t eat it. Waitress never stopped by during the meal so I didn’t have a chance to send it back. When I commented on the poor quality at the end of the meal, she didn’t really say anything other than asking if I wanted a box (I most certainly did not). My husband had the burger and it was just ok; for being their signature burger he expected a more interesting flavor. Our friends had the chicken sandwich and they appeared satisfied. Not my favorite Louie’s experience — hope they up the ante and don’t just rely on fried things to satisfy their customers.

Worked our large group in. Took orders and got food out quickly as we were going to theater. Waitress very efficient and good. Loud but that's because all looked like enjoying selves Thanks

It was great! Our waitress was wonderful and the service was excellent. Food was great. Appetizer could have more food included for the price!

We were seated at the table next to the restrooms. There was a huge line of people (~10) who all lined up next to us with their butts facing us. It was not fun and we will ask for a different table next time. Everything else was great.

We ordered our favorites, pork gnocchi and champagne fish and chips, both were different than past visits. The gnocchi had more of a tomato sauce and the pork was not as flavorful. The fish portions were smaller and not as flavorful. I asked for crispy french fries, didn't happen.

The live music was so loud that it was hard to talk to others at the table. It was a very busy night so the service was slow. The food was very good.

The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. The food was outstanding and our waiter (Gavin) was attentive, cordial, and extremely hospitable. Great experience.

I loved the atmosphere as soon as we walked. The food was amazing. We definately will be returning.
