Haven’t been to Il Pastaio since pre-Covid. Wow, holy expansion! Couldn’t find the check-in desk. Food was awesome as always but service was sub par. Never got a water refill, wine showed up half way into our first course. Yikes. Step it up. There were definitely enough servers and busboys around. No excuse for bad service.

Every time I go to LA it's one of my first stops! Been coming here for years and the food never disappoints! Last night my girlfriend's and I were having a girls night and wanted to have a nice and fun experience. The server already had a little attitude when we arrived. When my gf wanted to order her food a certain way and didn't want the mustard dressing on her salad and wanted balsamic instead he told her no and that he would put the sauce on the side and she could use the balsamic from the table. She wanted to order a pasta to go towards the end of the meal and he said you need to remind me. (Sorry, buddy but that's your job to remember to put in our Togo order. We are busy enjoying ourselves and spending money) At the end we ordered a dessert and didn't finish. My gf wanted to take the rest Togo. He went and grabbed a Togo box and bag and basically threw it at us. Like he was uninterested and we were bothering him. We then asked him to box it up for us because we were actually over his BS and him thinking it's okay to be rude. We asked if we could do separate checks or pay with more than one card. Rude about that. The whole time he acted like we were an inconvenience to him. Il Pastaio, tell him to get over himself, seriously! Food was wonderful though!

I’ve only eaten here twice, while visiting from out of town. But on both occasions the food was fabulous. Homemade spinach and ricotta ravioli here is pasta that truly melts in your mouth. Highly recommend this restaurant

What a wonderful evening, sitting out on their covered patio, drinking fine wines, and enjoying the best Italian food this side of the Atlantic. The service was impeccable, never feeling rushed even though the restaurant was totally busy, and savoring exquisite salads and pasta dishes. The spinach agnolotti was the best pasta I’ve ever had, and it’s hard not to order it every time we go. This restaurant is a gem, not to be missed!

Arrived before my reservation and had to wait a bit as the restaurant was very busy. Service was prompt. We requested appetizers as we were scouring the menu for entres and were informed that the entire order had to placed. We started with mussel and clams, and they were delicious. Followed by a chopped salad with grilled calamari, also delightful. We each ordered s tasty pasta dish and complimented it with a lovely Pinot. Everything was great. Dinner for two for about $230. Recommend this place as I will be returning.

Usually love Il Pastaio but this visit was not as good. Perhaps the increased seating outside creates too much business for the kitchen and wait staff to serve well?

Very good restaurant! The service is a bit hurried. I didn’t like how they charged for bread and butter though. Anyway, would go again!

Food was good but what is annoying that every 5 minutes the server asks if we finished, as if they want us to leave , this is why they t was not a pleasant time. Thanks

The food was spectacular but I was charged for bread without even asking if we wanted it. Further, I ordered a salad without shrimp, which was the same as a cheaper salad, but was charged for the shrimp I didn’t have. I would’ve take it home. They wouldn’t waive the fees despite my loyalty. All they needed to do was communicate!

We made a reservation at 8:45. We got there 8:40 and tons of people waiting outside. We talked to them they said their reservation was at 8pm and they were told to wait 15 min but they were waiting 45 min outside. I went to check in with the hostess she said you have to wait I said if the wait is 50 min past my reservation time please cancel my table. She was rude and said ok cancelled. No sorry no nothing. Would never step a foot there.

Excellent food. Minestrone soup is outstanding. All pastas were delicious. This is our go to restaurant when we visit Los Angeles

Good location and food...hadn't been in a while. Had a business dinner with a client. The waiter seemed irritated and rushed all of the food. We weren't even done with the starters and the Entrées arrived. He seemed curt and had no problem taking his time to bring the check. Definitely off their game compared to other times...maybe a bad night but it killed the experience, disappointing.

Food was great but took over 30 minutes for them to bring the bill and another 30 for them to run our cards. They said they have a new system but this happened to me there 2 weeks ago too so not sure why it takes them so long. Even offered to put it all on one card if easier. Was so late back to work and others to pick up their kids, it was disappointing.

It was unexpected that there were no tables available inside when the weather outside was cold, wet and windy. Our reservation was made three months in advance and the hostess was less than interested or accommodating in finding us a warm table. The heater closest to our table was not working for most of our meal. Otherwise our table of six was happy with their dinner choices. The key lime pie was excellent.

Good food overall, mostly, but a little too salty Cacio de Pepe. Noise level on the high side so you have your strain to hear. I would recommend restaurant. Everything else was very good.

We had a reservation we’re seated in 15 minutes….service was bad, the server when asked a question rolled his eyes like you don’t know what it means and explained barely than left for 40 minutes came back when we ordered and he looked and acted very annoyed by us but WHY idk just because we ask questions about menu ……than charged us $76 dollars for a side table presentation which lasted 3 minutes,very rushed and the food was very oily and overcooked tasted very bad ….than ordered deserts which was ok …..however, overall very overpriced and overrated restaurant I WOULD NOT recommend.

We had a reservation and waited 30 minutes for our table. After, it took another 30 minutes before we ordered. They are definitely overbooked and too busy for dinner. The food is excellent.

The door hostesses are not hospitable, not smiling. We waited 30 minutes in spite of we had a reservation. Space is not comfortable, inside is so small. At the inside and outside; so many tables have been placed and very close each other. Restaurant has not an ambience. Foods are average.

This was our first visit to Il Postaio. It was rather chilly, so when we arrived for our reservation, we asked to be seated inside. Instead of taking us to the main dining room, we got shoved into a small corner in a very tiny dining area. While the service was excellent and the food was good, I once again felt like because we were two women dining together, that they "hid" us away from the crowd. Why do restaurants do that???

My experience at II Pastaio was rather disappointing. The service left much to be desired, with unfriendly staff and slow attention to our needs. While the food was passable, the imposition of charging per person for bread, which was placed on our table without request, was irksome, especially since not everyone indulged. The bread itself was extremely dry and hard to break, leading to an unfortunate incident where it cut my thumb. Despite multiple requests, the staff's lack of concern or follow-up only added to the frustration. Overall, it was a lackluster dining experience marred by subpar service and unpleasant surprises.
