At our Bistro du Vin in Edinburgh we focus on fresh, tasty, well-made dishes to offer you an appetising and intriguing menu that we're passionate about and we hope you enjoy. We take time at our Edinburgh restaurant to find the right ingredients and produce, as we want you to enjoy dishes full of depth and flavour at a reasonable price.

Everything at our Edinburgh bistro is served by attentive and exceptionally knowledgeable waiting staff who are happy to explain the dishes and make recommendations - as is your Sommelier who is also ready to advise, guide, match or recommend the perfect wine from our extensive wine list.

No atmosphere , too few staff and food was ordinary . The wine waiter poured the wine without asking if we wished to taste and then filled every glass to a different level . When he was requested to open the red to let it breath, he didn’t know why we wanted to do that .. This at Hotel du vin !!! The clue is in the title .

The overall experience was nice and majority of food was lovely. However they really need work on the presentation of the black pudding salad. I really hope this allows me to upload a photo- because it looked honestly like a dog had squatted onto a salad plate. I’ll leave it at that!! My poor mum didn’t know what to say ( we were all laughing becasue it looked so awful) so she just broke it up and ate it. A better woman than me!!

Perfect venue for pre performance meal at Festival Theatre (6-7 minute walk). Helpful, friendly staff, good service. My cod was absolutely delicious.

Very nice meal for 6 of us. Good value in attractive surroundings. It was a quiet early Sunday eve so not many other diners. Pleasant service.

We were staying in Edinburgh as it was my husband’s 50th birthday and booked the table online after reading reviews. We had a lovely, relaxed evening. Staff were attentive and pleasant throughout. Would definitely go again.

Amazing experience. We were given the chef's table which was such a cool experience. Sunday Lunch is great value for money and a very high standard of food. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Will definitely come back!

I have eaten at branches of Hotel du Vin in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Cambridge and have found the brand unfailingly reliable. I had a lovely meal with an old friend and was delighted with my evening.

Not as good as previous experiences with this chain. Staff just not on the ball and roast potatoes burned. Air of couldn't care less, sadly as this chain usually pride themselves on customer service.

Very nice dining room and a pleasant ambience. However two of the items on the already quite restricted set menu were not available. The serving staff were very pleasant, but service was very slow. There was a gap of 45 minutes between finishing our main courses and being served our desserts. That was a bit annoying!

I had both afternoon tea and dinner here within a week. Both were excellent value, but dinner in particular was a revelation - an innovative and interesting matching of ingredients, and a take on some classic dishes that proved to be as delicious as they promised... My navarin of mutton was both traditional and delicious. The service was provided by an excellent young and very helpful and knowledgeable team. They offered a warm welcome too. And the wine list... Extensive, thoughtful and with a good range of wines by the glass. Our Chateau Musar 1999 was presented in superb condition, and was good value at £70... Well, it was a celebration dinner, so why not. They have excellent wines for far less too. We loved the room, the food, the whole experience. A really good find in a City with many great restaurants. Looking forward to my next visit.

We booked a table for Mothers Day in the main restaurant ( 2 adults & 3 children) but when we arrived we were shunted into a conference room with one round table far from the restaurant. If this had been mentioned at the time of booking we would most certainly have cancelled. There was a four course lunch starting with a thin tomato soup, a buffet starter table with a very limited selection of choices and the main course which was traditional Sunday Roast with some very undercooked and very scraggy beef. Unfortunately we ended up paying £170 for an extremely average lunch, without any atmosphere. I think that the establishment should have a little more integrity and if the restaurant is full, not continue booking unsuspecting guests into conference rooms. Having previously visited the restaurant for a couple of corporate events I must stay I went way very disappointed with the experience, although my wife put on a brave face , it wasn't much of a restaurant/dining experience for anybody.

We commented as we were waiting for our food that there seemed to be a few 'offers' on as the deal we were booked for seemed to cause some confusion when we arrived. This was confirmed to us when we were served up what appeared to be a 'salad' that had been thrown together using any /all ingredients the chef had in the kitchen! We were meant to have roast Normandie Chicken with fries but I have no idea what we were actually given! This was very disappointing on a few levels as we were very hungry and a salad was not going to hit the spot even with a side of fries thrown in. It's a shame as the service we had couldn't be faulted but we won't be returning.

I went for a meal Saturday night 30/05/15 with my daughter for her birthday. The staff were friendly and helpful, the ambience is modern and the building has an interesting history. The menu was varied with some fish which we ordered The onion soup for a starter for me had too much onion in it and very little liquid. I felt the prices were a bit high, especially the wine. I have been before a few years ago and enjoyed it more previously.

We arrived a bit early and they went to check but it was clear they had no record of our booking. When we got taken through, I asked if they got my request of no butter and the waitress said she would need to check as she hadn't seen the booking. Whe the food did arrived, the sandwiches were hard. The waitress was lovely and got new ones straight away but it certainly put a dampener on the visit. The tea and cakes were delicious so that was the saving grace. Won't be in a hurry to return.

My wife and I eat out a lot and generally have fillet steak cooked medium rare.All of you out there will know the problems faced in getting a steak cooked as you have requested and being disappointed with the trimmings,well not in the Café Du Vin. The steak was melt in the mouth to die forpaid a bit extra for the trimmings but there was enough for 2. Although very busy on a Saturday night waiters still managed to pour our wine for us and were extremely attentive. Meal was pricey but in my opinion well worth it.

I had tried, and failed, on numerous previous occasions, to make a booking at the Cafe du Vin so with one of my daughters home from London for the weekend I booked early to avoid disappointment. With very efficient staff operating within a building that oozes character the early sign were very encouraging. On the whole the venue lived up to those expectations with a compact but varied menu from which all of the food ordered was cooked and presented well. My only real issue lies with pricing which I thought to be a little adventurous but that does increasingly appear to be the norm in Edinburgh.

Festival Menu is not good value and leaves you feeling like management have just looked to rip off the customer through August. Food was OK, but once you know they have raised prices so much, it leaves alot for the chef to do to make you happy. £30 for a steak here is not justifiable. We would not go back, the prices made our guests uncomfortable, something which would not have happened with the normal menu. There was also shenanigans with the wine list, wine on the menu in the bar, not listed in the restaurant, so forced to order a bottle blind, the selection in the restaurant set to make you pay even more. Very disappointing Very disappointing behaviour from management.

Had previously heard good things however festival menu was very uninspiring and plain. Food came quickly but presentation was basic and food tasted bland. Seemed rather expensive for below average food.

This is nice restaurant. The service was good. We went for Sunday lunch which was good value. The food served at the table was excellent. However the buffet was quantity rather than quality. The smoked salmon was virtually tasteless. I love smoked salmon so this was important to me!

What a complete let down! Booked this for a Saturday evening meal with my wife. The restaurant called mid-Saturday afternoon to say that they were completely booked for a private function and were cancelling our booking. No attempt to book us a table at another restaurant. No offer of compensation, Just ''sorry about that'' Places like this don't deserve to succeed. !!

Second time there. Meal and service overall was very good. Just a couple of points, firstly the extra portion of root veg had been roasted just a little too long, and in truth should not have been served up. Secondly the wine is certainly overpriced

Although we booked with top table and had a confirmation there was no record of this once we arrived . Luckily they had a spare table . They had run out of 3 of the 6 starters and 2 of the mains . All in all ok but nothing special .

We went for Saturday lunch. Atmosphere like a student canteen. Staff were pleasant enough but the food was pretty poor - especially considering the price. At half the price it would have still been disappointing but at least we wouldn't have felt we'd been ripped off. We know restaurants in Edinburgh serving similar food, but of a much higher standard in much nicer surroundings, and at roughly half the price. Don't go is our advice.
