We visited Hooded Merganser twice while we were in Penticton area for a wedding. From the moment we were seated at the table overlooking the lake, the service, food and general vibe were great. I had the ahi tuna poke bowl which was delicious. Hubby ordered the fish and chips and said it was delicious. I'm sure it could have fed two people quite easily. Wine/beer selection isn't extensive but I'm sure there is something on there for anyone who enjoys that. Even though the restaurant was quite full on a Wednesday night, you could talk comfortably and still be heard. I would highly recommend visiting for a nice meal with a great view.

Beautiful picturesque patio right on the lake. Love the view, great service very pleasant waitress, food was very well priced. Would definitely recommend & be back Thank you

An enjoyable evening even if the food really wasn't so great. We've had better food here, but we know that getting staff is a continual headache for all restaurants, so we tend to cut everyone some slack. The staff were attentive even if they were probably covering too many tables. Great views and ambiance make this definitely worth the visit and we hope that next time we dine here we'll see the food return to previous higher quality standards. Overall decent value for money and a nice place to take visitors.

The service was excellent from start to finish. My only complaint is that I thought salad portions were small for $18.00. Expected more substance.

It was a great experience. Our waitress was excellent as was the young lady who greeted us at the door and seated us. The view is spectacular!! You can view the lake from almost anywhere in the restaurant. The drinks were very good. We also found the prices reasonable. We had the salmon and it was excellent.

Very noisy. Took my wife out for dinner here. Did not get the evening we had hoped for. Did not acknowledge her birthday. Dinner was okay but not as good as previous visit when we had the same order. Server was good although she did not introduce herself because it was busy. Just too loud for a quiet dinner!

Unbelievable. We are from Alberta, so fresh Okanagan ingredients are always a treat. The tomato Broccocini salad is a MUST, the balsamic reduction on that salad is amazing. I would highly recommend. Then we got the seafood linguine and the salmon as our mains. The seafood linguine was good considering this is not a pasta restaurant. But the salmon was perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious! Outside of food, our server, Chris, was excellent. As well, the view of the water was a treat (again coming from the prairies). I will definitely be coming back, it is not a matter of if, but when I come back to Penticton.

The Hooded Merganser has become a family tradition for many birthdays. The food, service and above all, the lakeside location and views from nearly every table are very special. If I had any slight comment, it would be that only 3 local beers were on offer and none of them were ales. Also the lady refilling the water glasses splashed water significantly over the table when topping up 2 of 3 persons glasses! Not what you might expect in such a good restaurant. But the food was great, menu varied and we had a lovely evening celebrating our son's birthday. We'll be back next birthday!

It took a really long time to get our food. We were there for almost 2 hours before we got our meals. The server did her best but she was overwhelmed with a large table that came in at the same time. The food was ok when it came. Server bought us dessert for the wait which was nice.

There was a large group that was seated near us, the level of noise was so bad we couldn’t talk to each other. The service was slow because of the larger group. We had to ask for water 4x. Very disappointing.

Steve was a great server and made a very enjoyable meal for my 9 year old son. 3 generations really liked the food. The views were great We will be back

Great meal and even better service. Our waiter Shane had great recommendations of the menu as well of things to do locally in the area. Highly recommend!

This restaurant is always a great place to celebrate year round due to the fabulous views of Lake Okanagan, wine choice and menu. We dined on a midweek evening for a family birthday and although the restaurant was only about 1/2 full when we arrived, we found the service to be pretty slow, although our server was very friendly. Not sure if lack of staff or service just could have been quicker, but we weren't in a hurry, so it was all good, the food great and we will be back!

We had a lovely dinner. The Calamari was very good. The fish portion of the blackened Tuna Salad was on the smaller side but the flavors were very good. The poke bowl also very good.

Great meal ! Highly recommend their Carpaccio. Service from "Carol" was perfect. Nice bottle of wine. Nice pace to the meal. Everything was 10 out of 10.

Overall it was a good experience. The mains and fries were quite good. Complaints: The garlic & brie was hardly warm inside, the crostini was over buttered, the fig compote was tasteless. The dish needs to be elevated…real figs, more crostini, etc. We shared the starter but the server never came around to give us our own plates so we had to eat over one shared plate. Not a great local wine or beer list. Cocktail list was not great either. I was glad they were at least able to make a mediocre mojito, last time they weren’t even able to do that.

This was my wife’s birthday lunch out. We chose the Hooded Merganser because of our previous very positive experiences. My wife was looking forward to the chicken parmigiana but it has been removed as a menu option. Her second choice cheeseburger and fries was only OK. The meat patty had a very dry texture and there was overall too much salt in the meat and on the meal. She managed half the burger and a few salty fries and left the rest. I had the green Thai curry. I found the chicken to be over cooked and the prawns undercooked. Plus I have never had rice noodles that were fully Al dente. In retrospect I regret not sending my lunch back to the kitchen to be cooked properly. We will look at alternatives next time we want a meal in Penticton.

Very enjoyable food, service excellent. We always pick a quieter day of the week because the high ceilings, glass surfaces make noise levels uncomfortable for conversation.

We all got the special menu for Dine Around Penticton, and it was fantastic and an incredible value. The pistachio crusted salmon was a wonderful combination of flavour and textures. So was the winter salad - sweet (apples, roasted squash) with a pleasant amount of crunch (apples again and pumpkin seeds). And the blackberry porter chocolate cake was delicious. The cake with the mousse inside would be pretty outstanding on its own but the addition of the rum berry compote alongside it was perfect. Just the right amount of sweetness. I will definitely be watching out for this event each year now.

Server did a pretty good job of filling the gap waiting an hour+ for food to arrive. Brutally overcooked and very substandard. I’ve eaten here dozens of times. Unlikely to come back. Noise made it very difficult to have a conversation. Penticton has lots of new choices. Merganser needs to step up not down

Apple squash salad was bland. Calamari was excellent. Shrimp cocktail was horrible. Halibut we sent back. It smelled and tasted bad. Sadly our worst experience of many. Won’t be back.

Dinner was good. The restaurant was a little busy because everyone was headed to the same show in the hotel. Initial service was a little slow but really friendly and the chef managed to get a lot of tasty meals out at the same time.
