We've been to this restaurant a few times before and generally speaking, we've always had a good experience. Well on this day, Mother's Day, we did not have a good experience; Hinoki and Bird fell well short of our expectations. While the manager did his best to remedy our issues, there were too many for them to recover from. Some mishaps that aided in this being a poor experience were: 1. We were told that OJ was reserved for Mimosa's so our waiter brought our 13yo twins sippy cup size of juice and said it was "on him". WTH??? 2. Our cappuccinos were luke warm at best. The manager remade them, but they still missed the mark. 3. An appetizer we ordered was initially overlooked but later came to the table way to close to the main meal. 4. My wife ordered the fried rice for her brunch entree. Again, it was warm wan way overcooked. It looked as if it was made earlier in the day and just reheated. It was definitely not fresh. 5. I ordered the steak and eggs, the flavors were nice, but the steak was rare to medium rare. While edible, it was a bit undercooked for my taste, I'll chalked this one up to bad communication since the waiter never asked how I wanted my steak cooked not did I tell him. Lastly, our overall meal took +45mins to arrive. The manager did intervene and had our order moved to the front but too much had already happened for that to matter. Again, we've had good experiences in the past, but this was not one of them. We will probably go back again but not anytime soon.

Actually went twice as was staying next door and I liked the fish dish I ate. Interestingly the place was pretty empty both nights & yet heat lamps outside seemed scarce, forcing seating next to each other/close when there were plenty of open tables. The service was attentive — I just wonder if the same on busier nights. I was there on both a Tues & Thurs.

Food was tasty, but not worth the price (on Vday it was $150 per person). One of the meals was basically fried chicken. Any other time to visit would be great, when the menu is at a normal price.

I used to like this resto and even bragged about it to my friends but this time the food was underwhelmed! Do they have new chef/cook? The boar ribs and sashimi was outstanding but the pork chop was undercooked chewy no taste! The mushroom fried rice was so so! The Brussels sprouts was good. The flank steak was just ok! The fried chicken had Very thick batter and you could hardly See the chicken. The cod fish was delicious to perfection! Overall probably not going back! Very pricey!
