Welcome to Hart House, one of the lower mainland's finest dining experiences. Built in 1910, the locally renowned Tudor style heritage house is situated on two acres of gardens on Deer Lake. This idyllic country estate, is only 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver.
BC Restaurant Hall of Fame Proprietor and restaurateur Paul Smolen transformed the 'family home' into a restaurant in 1989.
Since then, Hart House has opened its doors to countless dining guests, newlyweds and corporate clients; offering culinary excellence, a well stocked wine cellar and friendly professional service.
Hart House has been inducted into the Burnaby Business Hall of Fame in October of 2014.

    We had such a lovely time celebrating a few birthdays with friends. Such a lovely place to eat, the food was superb!! So delicious! The wine was great too and such great service. Located within a park setting with a lake in behind. We will be back for sure.! Highly recommend

    Recently visited Heart House and had an incredible experience! The service was top-notch, with attentive staff making the meal even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious; every dish was a culinary delight. Overall, I would give it 5 stars without a doubt!

    We were seated in a smaller windowed room overlooking the grounds. Diners voices seemed to bounce around in there making it a bit disturbing. We ordered the charcuterie and cheese plus bread and butter to share amongst the four of us as a starter. It was good, but pricey (4 crackers). For mains we ordered the Braised Lamb Shank, Spaghetinni Allo Scoglio, and Seared Haida Gwaii Halibut and they were all very good. Service was fine. All in all, it was a good experience with the exception of the overpriced starters.

    Our server, Gabrielle, did a great job. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Food was excellent.

    We loved the location, but the overall experience for 250.00 fell short. The waitress was polite and deserves a good rating. The product she had to serve was less. First, we had an excellent table but had to move because, in the dining room, the door to the patio was in the middle and was disruptive, letting the wind and cold air in. My wife requested to move. I ordered a 47.00 Halibit dish. While the plate looked delicious. Halibut was dry and overcooked, rubbery instead of flaky buttery. The sauce and other elements needed more salt. The dish itself if this was improved would be great. For almost 50 it was disappointing. We ordered a bottle of chardonnay. The 64.00 bottle was clearly priced high for profit. However it was the only one on menu. A 5oz glass was 14.00 and a 8oz we recall 21. Compared to other places this seemed price gauaging. Add on tip tax in a competitive market and its difficult to justify. However we agreed to buy a 64 bottle. But the waitress brought a opened bottle that had a glass missing from lunch. She told us shed take 5.00 off. I've never been so insulted as a goodie and wine informed food critic. The bottle was opened since noon and it was 6pm. It wasn't sealed with a cork with air removed but with a screw top. I would have expected the server to apologize for not having a bottle sealed and offer half off for the substandard product or just tell us to order another unless we wanted to have a glass only. If a chardonnay was 40 or 50 people may take a risk but a 64 price, the bar should never have let that come to the table as a full sale. A 5 oz glass on menu was 14.00. Yet the server offered 5.00 off for a 64.00 bottle that she said had 5oz removed. ??? We feel the food prices for the quality was over priced. But the view and character of the Hart House was saving grace. To the Hart house management. The servers deserve their tips. If you charge the prices, up the game. Even bread and butter was 6.00 on the premium menu.

However, we are deeply sorry to learn that your overall experience fell short, especially considering the high expectations that come with our pricing. Regarding your seating experience, we apologize for the disruption caused by the patio door. We're glad your wife requested to move, but regret that this adjustment was necessary in the first place. We're particularly concerned about the quality of your halibut dish. It’s disappointing to hear that it was overcooked and lacked proper seasoning. Your comments will be addressed with our kitchen staff to ensure that such issues are corrected moving forward. The issue with the Chardonnay bottle is especially troubling. Serving an opened bottle at full price is unacceptable, and we apologize for the way this situation was handled. Offering a mere $5 discount for an opened bottle is not reflective of the standards we aim to uphold. We greatly appreciate your candid feedback and would like to make amends for your unsatisfactory experience. Please allow us to refund you for both the bottle of Chardonnay and the halibut dish. If you had informed us of these issues during your visit, we would have rectified them immediately. Please call me at 604 298 4278 ext 103 so I can refund you the 50% cost of the wine as well as the full amount of the Halibut. Thank you again for bringing these matters to our attention.     Food lacklustre and super overpriced. Cold upon arrival and eggs were rubbery.We were sat at a table next to the doorway which opens to the patio This was very inconvenient as hostess was always coming in and out and the cold wind kept blowing at my back. Service was not overly great. Pleasant enough but not worth 18% starting percentage tip. View was the only thing I enjoyed about this place. Will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone.

    I had the Prix Fixe option with duck and the wine pairing. Everything was great, with the duck being perfect. Good choices for the wines. The only blemish was the Macchiato needs a bit of work.

    This was the perfect dinner evening. The ambience in the “house” is always cozy, yet elegant. The food was tasty, well prepared and plated well. Our waiter was attentive, yet not around too frequently. There was a wedding on the go in the front garden and the lake glistened as the sun set. The wine choices were outstanding. I chose a Rioja, which rarely fails! The halibut was firm but succulent and the Creme Brule was exactly as every Brule should be. The manager/owner is always present and very sociable. So if you are in Vancouver and want a successful dinner for your guests from out of town, Hart House will always guarantee success. A meal at HH is always impressive and guaranteed to be tasty, no matter which dishes you order.
