Opened in 1982, Gordon’s Trattoria can be found at 231 High Street overlooking The Royal Mile. Set in Old Town near Edinburgh Castle and St. Giles’ Cathedral, this restaurant prides itself in offering delicious homemade Italian cuisine. A few local Scottish favourites like spicy haggis also find their ways into the menu. The menu showcases an admirable balance between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The ambience is cheerful which aptly complements the food quality. Soft music playing in the background further enhances the charm of dining in Gordon’s Trattoria. We had a very nice meal at Gordon’s Trattoria before going on to a concert. Varied menu, food tasty, staff were very attentive, price reasonable for Edinburgh. I would go back again.

We had a pizza and a calzone and both were absolutely delicious. We will definitely eating here again next time we’re up in Edinburgh.

The service at Gordon’s Trattoria was amazing. The food was served within a good time frame and all the staff were lovely. One man in particular, I think he may have been the manager was so friendly that he made our night, he was very funny and chatty. The food was also brilliant and at a very reasonable price.

Food was ok, tables very close together which made private conversation difficult. We we served quickly for our main course but then no one came to take a dessert order or ask if we wanted more drinks. Wine was expensive.

We had a lovely family meal. The front of house staff were fantastic and made the children feel very welcome. Highly recommended as a family-friendly, independent restaurant with excellent Italian food.

Everything was perfect the meal , the service , the atmosphere . Deserts were expensive but that's a luxury anyway. The reason we gave it 1 star for value was a 10%service charge was added on to the bill without knowledge and permission, which left us in a tricky situation whether to ask for it to be taken off , we didn't and paid the bill. That was the only issue which was a shame , we were nice and relaxed in a lovely atmosphere which isn't easy in scotland with a 13 and 17 Yr old as most scottish pubs and restaurants seem to hate children ,you always feel on edge at night time. Going back to this restaurant I just felt they should have asked regarding service charge first

Visited with my boyfriend for a valentines meal. Initially greeted with a cold “you booked?” Unfortunately for us yeah we had. We were squeezed into the back practically sitting on other couples laps, unable to hear each other over the sound of other conversations. Service was inattentive and quick with a “get in and get out” attitude. The starter we shared was nice however my main, pasta was overrated for pushing £15. I understand ‘al dente’ but my meal tasted like it was cooked by a chef under strict instruction to get the food out to people quickly. Not to mention the horror of paying £5 for a small CAN of cider. Not one person came to the table to ask about the food, until we finished eating, by which point we decided on no dessert, or tip and to just pay the bill and leave. But no, they whacked on a service charge for their troubles on a somewhat quiet valentines night. Thanks for the free Prosecco, much appreciated but will no be returning, would not recommend. Awful.

We were so pleased to find this lovely wee place right on the Royal Mile. I had done a Google search because the place we had planned to go to was fully booked and we were delighted with everything about Gordon’s Trattoria. The food was delicious and the waiter was cheery and chatty with good banter. We will definitely go back the next time we’re in Edinburgh for lunch.

Fantastic place to eat. Staff very friendly. Good menu choice. Can recommend calamari, brushetta and the homemade pizza. All food freshly made and piping hot. We treated ourselves to the homemade cheesecake- divine. Will definitely eat here again.

Welcoming, clean, comfortable, staff friendly and attentive. Food delicious, well cooked and attractive without being at all pretentious. Proper sized pizzas and pasta dishes. We would highly recommend Gordon's and when we are in Edinburgh in the future we will be back for more.

If you are not fussy about mediocre Italian cuisine then I suppose this is a good place to dine. The drink menu had a nice selection and the waitstaff were attentive but no intrusive. A bit crowded for Covid standards.
