Frank O'Dowd's is an authentically designed Irish Pub in Galena Illinois. We are a food forward Gastro-Irish Pub that takes great care and consideration in to the ingredients on our menu. The entertainment, James Herr Acoustic, was fantastic, the vegan Shepherd’s Pie was exceptional and a rare find, the beef Shepherd’s Pie was pretty good, and the selection of Irish Beers was the best I’ve ever seen on one menu, exceptional!

Our waiter took for every to take our order. Other than that the food was specular and the band was amazing. Loved it.

Food was fair and some items barely warm. Not even hot…..desert bar was thaw and sell items and limited. The band was loud and atmosphere was loud where you can’t carry a conversation. The value was poor where we had A plate because of the quality was poor. Plate was $40. Ridiculous.

We were in from out of town and staying at Irish Cottage for a girls trip to celebrate my birthday. We made a reservation for 4:30 on 3/16 to watch the Irish dancers, eat, drink and stay for the band. We planned to spend most of the night there partaking in the atmosphere and imbibing from the offerings at the bar. We got there 10 minutes late which we apologized for profusely. We got seated, ordered drinks, watched the dancers at 5, then ordered food. We ate, and wanted to keep drinking for the second dancers and the band after. As soon as we were done eating the sever took our plates away. Didn’t offer boxes for leftovers and basically kicked us out saying we had been there too long and another reservation needed the table. We spent over $300 for our meal and drinks and likely would have spent another $150 to $200 on drinks to stay and enjoy the band. I just felt it was rude we were rushed out when we were paying customers. I won’t be back.

Enjoyed Katie Sullivan! Came from northern Minnesota just to see her perform! She never disappoints! The only disappointment was the waiter Brandon wasn’t there any longer!

Seated us at our reserved time. Atmosphere was pleasant. Service was friendly & attentive. Answered our questions about the food and drink menus. The food was very tasteful and plentiful. Would recommend to others.

I had a remarkable experience at this Hotel and Pub. The culture, hospitality, and the food were incredible. The servers were friendly and the shuttle driver (Brian) contributed to an overall memorable experience. I give this place a 5 star rating !

A great selection of interesting appetizers and entrees. Well prepared, presented, and delicious - at least in our experience. A unique Reuben sandwich, great fried Cod (a large portion) with their own Tartar Sauce and interesting slaw. They have an unusual barbequed chicken salad that features pickles. Not the lowest priced menu in town but consistent with other higher ends. Great beer selection.

Irish cottage continues to shine as a go-to restaurant in Galena. Only concern is wait staff that, while doing an excellent job, is overwhelmed with number of tables they have to cover.

We had dinner at Frank O'Doud's with my sister and brother-in-law and heard Andras for entertainment. We can't remember when we had more fun or had a better time. The food and beverages were wonderful and our waitress couldn't have been more accommodating to our every need. We are so looking forward to our next night there!

My husbands steak was OK but the highlight of my meal of Sheppard pie was my husband’s broccolini. The meat and veggies under the potatoes was disgusting. It looked similar to cat food and I don’t think the flavor was far off from it either. We’re almost certain it was canned.

Our server Aaron was very good - friendly - always had his eye on us to make sure we were taken care of. Didn’t like that other servers stood next to our table during their down time having personal conversations and waiting to see who would be cut and sent home. Food was ok - have stayed here in the past many times have had many meals here - this time dissatisfied with the stringy corn beef - drinks were delicious. Had big hopes for the evening due to the many wonderful times we had here and was disappointed.

Service was awesome. Waitress was very attentive. Fish fry was great as was the burger. We had dinner at about 6pm on Friday night. Probably did t. We’d a reservation , but any time after that, I would make one.

Visited the Irish Pub on Friday the 15th of September with my sister, mom and aunt while we were in Galena for girl’s weekend. The Irish pub did not disappoint! Our server Jason was courteous and attentive, food and drink’s delicious and the entertainment was spectacular! The man singing along with the girl who sang and played the fiddle was the highlight of our evening there! We must have stayed there 3 hours or more. Would highly recommend and definitely be back next time back in Galena!

Noise level was fine with an awesome 2pp band with great music Food, service staff is truly outstanding and I highly recommend the place, foid, drinks, and you won’t go wrong! We both had the Shepherds pie which we both loved! Dinner drinks were great and so was the many choices of after dinner coffee choices! Erin the bartender was fabulous too! Thanks & highly recommended and definitely we’d come again

Interesting is the fact that open table is still taking reservations as when we arrived we were told the restaurant has changed hands and the new owner doesn’t want to subscribe to open table. The restaurant was chaotic to say the least. Filthy is an understatement. Disorganized and challenged would be putting it lightly. The waitress was sweet and attentive albeit over burdened with tables and very flustered. The kitchen was open to our view from our table. Two cooks, no gloves and no masks. Quite concerning. The drinks weren’t up to snuff and the food was fair at best. We might come back for a beer and live music if that were an option but definitely will never eat there again.

We made a reservation online for 8:45pm only to find out when arriving that the kitchen closes at 9pm. We were rushed to order, could not get anything past 9pm. We tried to order mashed potatoes at 9:02pm and was told the chef already took the left over items downstairs and was out the door to clean up already. My food was undercooked and was told the chef could adjust it but would have to stop cleaning first. I was not comfortable having my food go back down to a half cleaned kitchen for cooking. The server tried to be nice about it, but I was very, very disappointed.

All our meals were excellent. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Also shepherds pie delicious

I was expecting a true Irish Pub experience and I felt cheated. The restaurant was attractive and inviting. However, the food was okay. I had the Irish Nachos plate. I was deeply disappointed. It was potato fries with chunks of cornbeef and mozzarella. Then, I ordered the fish and chips. I received 2 huge fried fish patties with more potato fries. I guess I was expecting too much. If there is a next time, I will order the steak. First impressions are highly important. Unfortunately, this restaurant didn't impress me. However, I am willing to give this place a second chance because the service was good.
