Just a short walk from Haymarket train station, First Coast is a local, independent neighbourhood restaurant. Over the past 11 years we’ve built a strong reputation for serving top quality modern Scottish food at reasonable prices.
Named after a small village in Wester Ross, where the owner has fond memories of eating brilliant Scottish produce during his childhood holidays, First Coast’s menu has something for everyone. Fresh fish is delivered daily, we offer a good range of tasty vegetarian options, J Gilmour butchers supply us with quality Aberdeen Angus steak, and we also make our own haggis

Very nice food, service was great but feels like they were understaffed. Food was very well presented and very tasty. It is a nice local restaurant.

Another excellent lunch at First Coast. We had the 2 course lunch for under £20. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was delicious and beautifully served. This is our 'go-to' place for quality and value and it doesn't disappoint.

First class service friendly staff who were attentive with out being overbearing. The menu choices were excellent covered most possibilities.

Have eaten here a few times. Atmosphere in restaurant is welcoming and cosy. Staff are pleasant and friendly. The food is of exceptional quality and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

This is one of the restaurants in Edinburgh that we will make a point of returning to. Simple decor, lovely staff, and delicious food. Highly recommend both the hake and the monkfish. A very memorable meal!

I first went to First Coast to visit a young lad on placement from the college where I worked. This was just after it opened. The people who opened it were really great with him and I hope its still them that manage it. The food was great, then, as well and it still is. I hadnt been for a while but the standard was still high. Im still dreaming about the lemon posset and raspberries!

We booked this restaurant for my Mum's 65th birthday as it is local to my Sister and I - we had both been before but not for a while. The food was excellent, good portion sizes, a nice variety on the menu and really tasty. The only thing that let it down was the service we received. There was only one lady front of house and maybe she was having a bad day but I don't think my family and I have ever felt less welcomed into a restaurant. We had two babies with us and I had requested a high chair prior to our arrival however there wasn't one at the table when we arrived and we had to ask for one, which seemed like a bit of an inconvenience for her to organise. We both struggled in through the door with our buggies, whilst the waitress/ manager looked on (didn't offer to help). We weren't told about the specials, offered dessert or coffee and nothing was delivered with a smile. We did leave a tip but this was for the kitchen, I do hope they receive it. It was a real shame it turned out this way as the food was lovely but I doubt any of us will be back.

Food delicious. Good range suiting all of our family party, ranging from vegan to enthusiastic meat eaters! Very pleasant service. Good atmosphere, though not for the hard of hearing! The only downside is the 2 hour slot for the table. Although we were able to stay on for longer, we were aware of the time constraints. If that doesn't concern you (and it is made clear) 5 stars!

The food was lovely but given that, for the better of an hour, my friend & I were the only 2 customers in the place, I would have hoped for rather more attentive, interested staff. Also, there was no light in the loo, which was a bit off putting, to say the least!

We tried First Coast while we were in Endinburgh for a short time visit because the reviews were pretty good and we were happy with this decision. It's a nice place with good food and cozy atmosphere.

The meal was really delicious and a nice choice of food. Service was also excellent and staff were very happy to assist. The thai chicken salad waas truly scrumptious! There was something for all tastes on the menu. Will definitely be back. Thanks for a great evening!

I have been going to First Coast for many years. It never lets you down. Great food and service. Last night in particular the sardines were heaven!

We went to First Coasr for our anniversary on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant was busy, staff friendly and the food was good. Very good value for money for city centre. First Coast is certainly worth a visit.

Second visit to First Coast. Just as good the previous visit. Excellent fish starters and mains, beautifully done. The Thai marinated chicken salad is also a menu staple that my wife can't go past. Everything fresh and good quality. Can get very noisy if seated next to a group, but they have several rooms.

Been to this restaurant many times in the past but not much lately. Staff have changed however the food, ambience and service is still as good as I remember. Would recommend.

Myself and five girlfriends were visiting Edinburgh from Ireland and this restaurant had been recommended. I must say the good was superb everyone enjoyed their meal and service was good, the only downfall was the wait between starter and main was a little long but the food made up for it and it really was great value for money.

We booked a table in advance. When we arrived, the main section of the restaurant seemed to have a good ambience however we were seated in the section around the corner. The two person table by the window is awkwardly placed as it is right in front of the door which staff come through from the kitchen; we felt a little in the way. It was also chilly in this corner as a draft came through each time the door opened. The food itself was delicious- I had a and my friend had butternut squash soup and I had a squid ink risotto. For my main we had a fish stew- which I loved. There was a very long wait in between courses - roughly an hour between our starter and our mains. I was visiting Edinburgh on a short trip and would be hesitant to return again on a future trip.

We booked a table for ten people at 6pm. Two of our party were delayed beyond 6.30 but the rest of us ordered before that so as to use the early diners' menu. Since the restaurant was quiet I asked if they would kindly allow our two late-comers to order from the same menu but this was flatly refused. I feel this was pretty poor and hardly good customer service. We were after all paying almost £300 and didn't want to make the two late people feel even more embarrassed by having the dearer menu. Apart from that gripe, the food and the evening was great!

Most enjoyable themed Belgian dinner. We had to ask for Belgian beer which was not on the menu, but which was instantly forthcoming when we did.

This is always our first choice of venue for our catch ups (usually every couple of months). Menu always contains some favourites but there's also always something different. Full of flavour and well cooked and the home made bread is delicious. Love this place.
