Housed in a beautifully restored 1912 firehouse, Engine Co. No. 28 located 3 blocks from the Staples Center and the Los Angeles Convention center has been putting out appetite fires since 1989 with classic American dishes inspired by the regional cooking of firehouses across the country.

The menu features a "signature" Meatloaf, crispy hand-breaded fried chicken, a burger to remember and a great assortment of handmade cocktails, a consistently updated wine list, and a great draft beer selection.

The restaurant is reminiscent of the classic grills of San Francisco and New York - mahogany booths, granite bar, and original brass fire pole with eclectic old filament light bulbs to add to the motif.

Chrissy was awesome (super sweet and attentive + great recommendations). Came in for a birthday lunch with a colleague and we were very impressed. We work so close by but had never been here until today. It’s cute - they turned a fire station into a restaurant. Clean & plenty of booths. The menu has pretty much everything to cater to what you’re craving. We tried the ravioli and the filet mignon. So yummy! We had the tiramisu for dessert - it didn’t taste entirely like tiramisu but was okay. Definitely will return

The lamb chops were overcooked and tough, Caesar salad had too much dressing, bar couldn’t find green olives for martinis which came with the wrong vodka, and the service was slow. Such a disappointment compared to what it used to be and we’ll certainly never return.

It had been over 10 years since I had eaten at Engine Co. 28, and the food was as good as I remembered. But I was disappointed in the selection of beers from your bar, and the fact that none were on tap.

At 8:30pm, we made a reservation for 8:45pm since we were nearby. However when we arrived, we were told the kitchen was closed. We asked why OpenTable allowed us to make a reservation if they weren’t serving and they didn’t know. Perhaps this is OpenTable’s fault for not coordinating with the restaurant on available reservation times, but we were stuck paying for $20 valet parking for a restaurant we couldn’t eat at.

We very much enjoyed our visit to Engine Co. No. 28. The vibe was good, and friendly. The booth was comfortable and the ambiance was very laid back. There were few diners the evening we were there and the service was excellent. We both enjoyed our meals, but would like to have seen a bit more variety on the menu.

The garlic bread is amazing! Loved my chicken sandwich. Great service in a cool former fire station. Will definitely go there again.

The restaurant wasn’t busy and it took a long time for the server to take our order and for our food to arrive. Our food was mediocre. Average bar food. The only good thing was actual restaurant that was a converted firehouse. It was a unique atmosphere.

Valentine's Day dinner We visited Engine Co No 28 for Valentine's Day and had a wonderful time. While the food did take a little longer than expected, it was understandable given the occasion. However, once it arrived, we were delighted with the quality and taste. The service was also excellent, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. We'll definitely consider returning for future special occasions.

Although we arrived late for our reservation we were still accommodated. Arriving at 6:55 we were seated by the security guard, our waitress came beyond our table about 5 minutes after we were sat. It was a prefixed menu, so we ordered everything immediately, and then we waited for almost an hour. We waited exactly 48 minutes before we flagged down a member of the waitstaff. The same security guard that sat us came and checked on us we relayed the same thing, no drinks no food for almost an hour. An hour after placing our order our drinks (Side Car, Salty Pear Martini) arrived. 10 minutes later our first course arrived almost an hour and a half after we placed our order. The tuna tar tar was the star of the show absolute best thing we had . The filet were served hot, but given the quality it was obvious these were pressed filets. The mashed potatoes were watery, and no horseradish to speak of. As a compromise for waiting we were given additional drinks which would be fine if we could have enjoyed them. We requested our desserts to be boxed to go as we were getting sleepy. Overall would never come here on a holiday again.
