Been dining at Ella at least 3x per year since it opened. We've never been disappointed... until now. While the food was outstanding as always, we were disappointed with staff, starting with being "greeted' by the hostess who offered no smile or hello. We requested a table as far away from the noisy happy hour folks around the bar due to one in our party (of 5) with a hearing impairment and she explained they could only accommodate large parties right next to the host station. Of course, 30 min later we noticed her and another putting together a table for 6 in the curtained and quieter room farther from the bar. With the noise, it was tough for the first hour to have a conversation at our table, Our server was gregarious and engaging but he forgot to deliver two cocktail and brought a glass of wine with the wrong course. I note for years Ella has madenthe best old-fashioned in town but not this time - subpar really for the cost. We also specifically asked our server that our children's main dish come when the adults' did; however, their food came more than 15 min prior. Finally it took forever to get our check and for the bill to be paid. We noticed our talkative server holding our bill for over 10 min as he chatted it up with a couple at an adjacent table (they looked overwhelmed). I want to acknowledged that the server's assistant was great; he was nice, kept our water glasses full and table well kept.

Food & HH was incredible. Will be back for sure. Should be communicated better that HH is only available on one side of the restaurant.

WE have not been to Ella's in a two years. WE remembered it being Great. It was good, limited menu, it was jam packed for a Monday evening with an event. WE had three entree options, as they had run out of the other two. Service was slow because it was so busy. Food was very good and we will go back, but will take a later reservation that ours at 6:15 pm.

The restaurant is very nice as are the staff, but the food was disappointing. The salad to start was excellent, but the steaks were not good and the dessert was ok. The steaks seemed boiled instead of grilled and lacked any life or flavor to them. Overall, this was a $100 meal they charged us $340 for. This was not a good value. Plus $35/glass of wine?…really?

Had a great experience for lunch celebrating a special occasion. Martini was exception and crab melt was great. Sat on the patio and while it was a bit noisy from the train, it’s a wonderful little outdoor space.

Second time at Ella. Ordered the beets salad that was oh so delicious and the crispy fried chicken also good. Two issues 1. slow service: wanted to eat the protein with the salad which the server was informed of. However, there was a 15 minute if not more time difference between receiving the salad and the chicken. I could not wait on the chicken so started eating the salad which meant by the time the chicken arrived all I had left to eat was the chicken which was not cool. The goal was to have my veggies and protein together. 2. Ordered asparagus to accompany the chicken and it never arrived. Note, the server apologized profusely and even sent the manager over who also repeatedly apologized stating she sent the asparagus over to our table but inadvertently given to another table. To make up for the asparagus the manager offered dessert on the house which we accepted. My colleague chose the strawberry cake which was yummy and I had the plate with 2 macaroons , 2 pieces of chocolate and 2 pieces of a sugary….(can’t recall name) but it was good. Would I recommend Ella - absolutely with the caveat that sometimes you may encounter slower service when the restaurant is packed. This was on a Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m.

Service was over the top. Brian was attentive, kept us at a great pace and made our date night fantastic. The plates were appropriate portions and the flavors were bright and consistent. It had been awhile since our last visit and it was well above our expectations.

The cocktails and wine list were great. The salads and entrees were delicious. The only maybe was the dessert. We had the apple crisp. It was a little dry, heavy on the cinnamon and could have been sweeter. This is of course my taste preference and I’m sure others would disagree. Other than that I was very impressed and will be excited to return.

Always our go to place for special occasions over the years. The food is always well prepared and the service exceptional. The only complaint we have is the menu still looks the same, year after year. I feel like we keep ordering the same thing. Also, they’ve modified the bone marrow appetizer recipe; which wasn’t necessary. It was perfect before and now the flavor and texture are pretty average. They really need a menu refresh, maybe bring in someone from the outside to offer suggestions.

Food was salty…salmon was farmed from Australia too salty …risotto much to salty as we were underwhelmed…yet the fresh baked bread was tasty. One and done for us!

Always nice time. Skimpy almost non existent on polenta with the lamb. Seriously a main entree should come with something especially it it’s listed as such on the menu

I had a beautiful time, per usual. Michael was great at assisting our fabulous evening. And, Shane was great as always. I love his customer service and the way he runs the restaurant. I will continue to come back to Ella’s.

Delicious and very fun meal at Ella in downtown Sac. One of the Selland Family of fine dining here in the city, our meal was delicious and creative with rich flavors and depth. Service was fantastic and very fitting for our birthday celebration. Ambiance was beautiful and warm/friendly/inviting, with decor that made you feel like you were in part of the preparation/development of the dishes. We were staying nearby so didn't need to worry about parking, but there are lots nearby that are pay-per-hour or valet if needed.

From the time I called about our reservation until the valet returned with our car, the experience was fabulous. The service was smooth and unobtrusive. The food was (as always) delicious. A truly memorable evening!

Our server and food were outstanding as always! Every time we go to this restaurant before a show, they make every effort to get us out on time to make it to our engagement. It truly is one of the best restaurants in Sacramento. The food is consistently fantastic.

The server was just busy and was all over the place. She didn’t come to us for like 15 mins off and on. Overall food was good and ambience was nice. Just need to maybe have more servers so that the server is more attentive to you

Brought my daughter with me, and we had the most excellent server who helped pick out wine and recommended dishes. We felt comfortable, and the food, especially the Truffles Brioche, was SO good.

Ella is a safe bet in downtown Sacramento. The food is always very tasty, simple and affordable, the menu changes regularely. The wine list is clever, some very good values but also haut de gamme if you wish to splurge (Romanée Conti, the entire range or Krug Clos du Mesnil for ex.) I had the king salmon, it was delicate and delicious. The cheese plate all american , cow and pasteurized, but hey: nobody is perfect! Dessert was the apple cobbler, just so good! The service is professional and efficient. There is a valet for your car, convenient!

Waiter was awesome! I highly recommend the steak tartare. Very extensive drink menu, but a very limited dinner menu. There was not lamb, filet mignon, lobster options on menu. Basically salmon, pork chop or halibut. If you are going to enjoy cocktails, decent place- going for dinner- I would pass. I probably will not return.
