Nice to enjoy a dinner out in Old Sacramento— but the food and service was disappointing at the Delta King. Pricey for the quality of what we were served. Ok, but mediocre. Our waitress was friendly and checked in with us, but service overall was slow. She apologized several times over the course of dinner for having to wait a long time for waters, then our wine order, and subsequent dishes. Just an OK experience.

The location is wonderful. Our server did a fine job. The food was not good. We ordered three different fish dishes and all were over cooked and the sides were not tasty. The halibut was so over cooked we couldn’t cut the “seared” top with a knife.

The manager on duty (blonde hair, but I don't remember her name) was very kind and courteous. She was actually a pleasure to speak with and really went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Unfortunately, the abundance of flies in the corner area where we sat wasn't too great. But the part that really ruined the whole experience was a young girl who was sitting with her mother at the bar. I think she may have been an employee there (off duty). I believe I overheard her name was Max or Sam. This girl had a voice that could be hear throughout the entire restaurant and she had no volume control especially when she was cussing up a storm every other word. "B*tch" this and "f*ck" that every couple of seconds. I had seen a number of people keep turning their heads every time she opened her mouth. Not sure if she was intoxicated or if this was just her normal behavior. I'm really surprised that none of the staff (or even her mother) told her to quiet down. Very trashy and ruined the experience.

Food was overpriced for the quality!! Twenty dollars for two crab cakes was hey robbery and they were not great! Coleslaw was just cabbage NO SAUCE AT ALL dry as heck! Fish and chips soggy! Burger was good though had to ask for the sauce and bacon was charged but not on burger. Drinks from bar were good but stuffed with ice two sips it was gone!!! Waiter was all alone and very busy just dropped our food and drinks at end of the table and took off running to next customer! It was a birthday celebration so I was pretty disappointed considering I paid 171.00 for four people to eat lunch. I won’t be back☹️

I hope it was just an off night for the Delta King, but Appetizers (Shrimp cocktail/ crab cakes/ beet salad) showed up about twenty minutes after being ordered. Pork Loin was oversalted. Salmon were okay. Three beers total. 170.00 plus tip. Ambience was the high point. Beautiful view of the river from an otherwise charming old steam boat. Not sure I can recommend dinners there but the 'Boat' is very nicely restored.

Sat at a table overlooking the river and watched the sunset while we ate surprisingly great halibut and steak dinners.

The location on the boat is the appeal of this place. It’s beautiful even if it’s dated…. That just adds to the charm. The service was slow even though it wasn’t busy, but I don’t mind lingering over a meal. My complaint is that the food was not good. We had the mushroom appetizers which was good and flavorful. Otherwise it was all a disappointment. I had the halibut and it was bland. The texture reminded me of frozen filets…. I doubted its freshness. The risotto was a little undercooked with slightly crunch rice and absolutely no flavor either. My husband had the pork. It was better than my fish, but ultimately unimpressive.

The ship is beautiful and the staff very friendly the only draw back we had was our main dishes. My husband and I each got the Halibut entree. For $32 I was not expecting to see an over fried small pice of fish that we couldn't tell what kind of fish it was at first glance. They did have an amazing Mushroom appetizer. Our waitress was very friendly throughout the whole dinner. The kitchen was behind and she made sure to give us bread and water as well as bringing an extra mushroom dish to help with the wait. That's why it was disappointing to see what the main dish was when it came.

I had booked an outdoor table and they said they weren’t doing outdoor because the bartender was busy? There was lipstick on my water glass and my fork was dirty. The host seemed a little put out when I asked him for a window seat since we could not sit outside. There was not one available. Our food was warm, not hot. The taste was good though.

Quiet night (Monday), good seats overlooking river. Server was attentive and helpful and friendly. Food was good portions, and prepared well. Would go back again.

Overall dining here was a cool experience, but I probably won’t be back. Food was okay, our server was hustling but she was the only one serving the entire deck.

The staff were lovely, but the kitchen and management were poor. Half of my $45 ribeye was not only un-chewable gristle, it was only 1/2” thick. It was a terrible cut off meat for that price point and arrived lukewarm. As for management, the temp outside it was 75 degrees, but inside the restaurant it was 85 degrees, because someone set the temp to heat. Also, the restaurant was sorely understaffed so we only saw our server 4 times because she was serving tables up and downstairs. Poor experience and would not return.

Beautiful views of the American river at sunset from the outside dining area. Crab cakes and chicken caesar salad were excellent. My wife ordered a signature pina-colada-ish drink which was delicious. I had a Whiskey Sour which tasted a bit like they might have been using a mix rather than actual fresh lemon juice. I ordered the ribeye and was unimpressed with how inedibly fatty much of the cut was.

Wonderful 40th Anniversary, and our lunches came quickly 20” after ordering. Tiramisu enjoyed by 3 of us. I will tell friends about this great restaurant! Train ride from Oakland & back was very fun too🎉

The fried chicken sandwich and the fish and chips tasted like it came out of a box and not freshly prepared in the kitchen. The boat itself, needs some major spiffing up. It could be such fun, cool place if some effort was put into it.

Beautiful dining experience. The view was great to and very relaxing sitting on the water. I ordered a mixed green salad with salmon and it was cooked perfectly. I would definitely visit again!

For the positives, The restaurant itself was very nice, the food was good. I had the New York steak, soft in the middle almost melted in my mouth tasted really fresh. My girlfriend had the salmon, that also tasted very good and fresh. The service was also really good, we were late for our reservation and they took care of us and got us a riverside window seat. It was my girlfriend’s 21 birthday, they brought her a lava cake. When you leave a reservation on open table ask for a riverside window seat. We went on a Saturday night and there were hardly people there you will for sure get seated but if you want a riverside window seat you might have to wait a little or get a reservation. For the negatives, I called and left voicemails to the restaurant on 3 separate days at different times and never received an answer or callback. The restaurant itself is hard to find since it’s on the water, there is no parking lot next to it. The parking situation was terrible this is the reason we were late. We called the delta hotel because they were the only ones that answered and asked about the parking situation, they told us to go to valet and wait. We went there and of course the police officers were dealing with someone there so we got stuck in the valet area. It took the valet 15 mins to get to us and when he did he said that it if we’re just going to the restaurant to go and park at the parking garage down the street. It was a mess, we showed up at 8 didn’t get into the restaurant until around 8:40.

Took out of town relatives to Delta King as it was once owned by Family and they had never been there. The King has aged a bit and it was sad to see the safety required red and white tap across the bottom and top of the grand staircase as it detracted from the beauty of it. The food is good but average; I had higher expectations for the prices. Service was polite. However, We had to hunt down another waiter for the final bill . I would return to the bar but not for dinner.

We had reservations and got Stuck In traffic. We called the restaurant several times, but no one answered. When we got to the restaurant there was NO one in the restaurant. It wasn’t busy so I don’t know why they didn’t answer. The waiter was cordial, but barely attentive. The view isn’t great; green water and weeds across the river

James was amazing. He made our dinner experience fantastic. Food was excellent. We had the pork chop and the salmon. Dessert was yummy. We had the cheese cake and the chocolate molten cake. Already booked again for April

First off they were out of vegetables so I couldn't get what I would like to have ordered next. The server was really nice. However, there was only 2 of them for the whole restaurant and it took forever for us to get anything. And when we did get our food, I felt my food was mediocre. And lastly, we had in our reservation on open table requested outdoor seating. When we got to the restaurant the server said oh we're not doing that today. We decided we're never going back.

Maybe not the fanciest and a little worn, but just dining on the Delta King is always celebratory. By choice, we sat in the bar. I had the linguini jambalaya, yum! Seriously, you're dining on a historic riverboat ON the river, checking out the seals and other boats chugging by from the deck. That can't be duplicated in Sacramento. Food was good, service was good. The Old Sac location is great. I'll be back.

Service was extremely slow for it not being busy. It took us 15 min to get water, and almost an hour for our dinner. At no point in time did our server communicate that the kitchen was behind. When we got our meals, ( Grilled Ribeye steak and Cajun linguine) the chicken and shrimp in the linguine were very overcooked, the mashed potatoes were cold and lacked seasoning, and the broccoli was undercooked and tough to eat. In fear of it taking a long time to get our meals corrected, my husband and I shared the ribeye steak and quickly left after.

I took my wife here not only for Valentines but also for her 60th birthday celebration. Unfortunately, the service was unacceptable and very very poor. There’s a disconnect between the kitchen and the service staff I received my entrée and my soup before our starter. The soup was cold. My wife’s meal didn’t come out until an hour. After we were seated, we were comped the meal, however we were told that another meal would’ve been free as well and for us to just contact the manager the staff was incredible as far as checking on our food. However, they weren’t able to bring it out because apparently it wasn’t ready. I will never come back here for a paid meal, and they ruined a very special night for my wife and I.

SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND DON’T DINE HERE FOR ANY MAJOR CELEBRATIONS LIKE VALENTINE’S DAY COMING UP!! 1/5 stars, they only get one star from be because the waiter was wonderful given how stressed out he was. Our reservations were at 7:00 PM. I checked in with the hostess at 6:40 or so, then sat at the bar to wait for our table. The poor bartender was out of glasses, behind on orders and all around stressed out. He did his best and was wonderful though and a very nice person. Now the real reason why our experience was HORRIBLE. We were seated after 7:00 PM. My first indication things were not going to go well were how many tables saw still had no food from the time I walked in through the door to the time we actually got seated. Our waitress was completely rude. Came up to us out of nowhere, did not introduce herself didn’t ask if we wanted anything to drink besides waters, etc. All she said was “What can I get you to order?”. At first I wasn’t sure if she was asking if we wanted an appetizer or starter for the table or if we just wanted the entree. Again, there was no other dialogue than her initial question. But coincidentally, after she left our table of two, she went to ALL her other tables and had an extremely different demeanor. We were never checked up on again, I had to ask for a basket of bread, and we never saw her for the rest of the night. An hour and a half later, we got up and left after seeing all the other tables waiting 50+ min for their dishes to come out. Three other tables left as well. If the kitchen was running behind (which it was, I went up after 45 minutes and asked the hostess if she knew about any possible delays with dinner. She confirmed there was), I would have been more understanding had we had a waiter that could communicate with us and made up for it with customer service. Overall: horrible customer service, horrible experience, the bread was decently good (all 5 pieces we got for an hour and fifteen minutes at that table)

Made reservations 2 hours in advance of a concert time. We arrived early and were seated promptly, then waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged and served water. I noticed the server at a table near us apologizing for the wait and comping them with dessert. We finally ordered, our appetizer came out in about 15 minutes (Spanish mushrooms). Tasted like the butter had been burnt. Salads came out shortly after and were OK. We waited an hour and a half for our entrees before finally leaving. Several other tables around us left shortly after being seated and not being served (about 6 different parties). The sever was short staffed, but obviously the big problem was in the kitchen. Something definitely needs to change. Will not be back.
