A New York restaurant. We offer a tasting menu reflecting New York state’s best produce, with a focus on natural wine.
Contra offers a seasonal tasting menu options consisting of 7 courses for $150.

Walk-ins for tasting menus or a la carte dining are welcome at the bar, which is first come, first served.

The service is impeccable. The servers really go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your evening. The desserts are elite. They combine really creative forms and combinations to deliver familiar but delicious flavors. Truly upper echelon pastry cheffing is going on here. The only downsides to Contra 10 years later is that some of the savory items are a touch too delicate for my taste but moreover regardless of inflation the value just isn’t their with respect to cost. I paid 230 dollars (after tax and tip) for 1 person (that’s with one alcoholic drink only) and I left extremely hungry. So it really is strictly experiential dining as opposed to a meal where you feel adequately fed. In this sense it is a bit upsetting because at that price point I shouldn’t be racing home to eat left overs. However, because the desserts are so frustratingly good I’ll accept the rip off prices in exchange for desserts I will remember and a bill I will soon forget even if it was the price of a regional flight for what cumulatively amounts to one maybe two modest appetizer portions.

The scallop is as amazing. And the tomato was one of the purist, sweetest tomato flavor I’ve ever had.

Absolutely Amazing! Glad I was able to experience this restaurant, on my bucket list for some time. Amazing from start to finish, wine pairings were amazing as well. Scallop dish was my favorite, but all dishes fantastic. The person I was dining with has a severe shellfish allergy and it was handled incredibly well and substitutions were on par with original dishes. Great experience!!!!

Bar seats are uncomfortable and it’s too loud in the bar to hear the dish descriptions, but everything else is great.

Would say I would never come back but y’all are closing so definitely will never be back. The food was very whatever. Nothing exciting or good. Didn’t eat 2 of the courses, they just weren’t good. Everything was very one noted. The service was terrible. It felt the restaurant itself has given up. Was so excited to spend my birthday here and was disappointed so quickly. Unfortunately, it is what it is. Go somewhere else this month, not worth it :( Left hungry

Service unpersonable, didn't feel very hospitality driven. Food was tasty but nothing too innovative and portions were very small... left still hungry. Timing was painfully slow, to the point of awkwardness. Not a very enjoyable experience.

It was my wife and Is 3rd time doing an anniversary dinner here. May have been the best food experience yet, which if you consider we came back for a third time should tell you how wonderful it was. Full marks.

Wonderful experience! The servers were incredible and attentive. The ambience was nice and dark, the food was exceptional. Unique flavors, presentation and combinations that I wasn’t expecting to like and absolutely adored. Highly recommend.

The food was beautiful, delicious, and the service was great. Tried the full tasting menu which was a good amount of food but not overwhelming. The scallops were a crowd favorite. I really liked the boudin noir. The tofu with caviar was a treat. Everyone raved about the dessert.

Very creative dishes and wonderful food experience. Little fuss with focus on the food and great wine list as well. The main word here is creative and inventive. Best dish the scallop followed closely by mushroom tart with eel sauce, and the peas and sauce served with fish also pretty amazing. Feast of flavors. Loved the meal and highly recommend.

A must have in NYC. Contra's is one of the best restaurants I have ever been. If you can, do the 9 course menu.

All the food was either salty or bland and it did not flow. It was a bunch of nice expensive ingredients thrown together and not used to it’s full potential. For the price being what it is, it is not worth the money or time spent. The only thing beside the dessert(not the eclair) that I enjoyed was the scallops, the smoked walnut sauce was way too salty so it overpowered the meal. I wish i had considered the reviews before going. Also I am a chef myself and this is the first Michelin starred restaurant I went to and it was very disappointing. Not only was the food not good, but the reputation of what the Michelin star stand for in tarnished. Which made my meal even more disappointing. And I have never been so disappointed in my life with food, but there is a first for everything. So no I did not enjoy my experience and I would not recommend this to a friend. The chefs really need to step up there game and need to hold up there reputation and self respect to what a Michelin star stands for because The Contra is not it. Now I would appreciate a refund because my overall experience was very disappointing.

impressive french wine list people are nice and professional. good interaction. all in all a very good evening we had fun ( and i m mostly paid to eat at michelin starred restaurant so that is praised indeed)

We tried the tasting menu at this East Village restaurant along with the wines to accompany the menu. All the dishes were excellent with an interesting range of flavors and textures. The wine matches to the food, however, did not work well. Service was great, place was a bit noisy, and the cost was moderately high but overall a pleasant dining experience.

Ahh the food was some dishes nice and other ones a bit different ! If you want to try something new is for sure the place to be ! Price is a bit excessive !! And don’t go there for a first date !! Is super loudly !!
