Chinois on Main remains the best, and arguably the only, true fusion cuisine in America (and, other than Wolfgang Puck's other outposts in foreign lands, arguably the rest of the world). You will savor taste treats that are unlike any others that you may have enjoyed.

I wanted the food to be great because it all presented so well but it was just okay. Mostly bland. As a result I don’t recommend and won’t return. Great service and really nice staff. Bathroom cleanliness was horrible. Clean your toilets and pay good attention to hygiene in the bathrooms. I expected more from a relatively expensive establishment.

Service was gracious and attentive. The food has gone way downhill since my last visit. The Shanghai Lobster was great. for the "Market Price" of $120 it should be. The stir fried lamb was pools of over sauced, very sweet ground lamb-terrible. Duck entree was very good. Plates looked thrown together/sloppy. Wine by the glass list is pedestrian. Ambiance is great, busy, but warm, with a well trained veteran staff out front.

We go regularly because we like the Chinese chicken salad which is absolutely the best quality and is a good value, it’s so huge it will feed at least two as an entree. We also splurge on the lobster spring rolls which are pretty much 100% lobster and we like the green beans and noodles as sides. Victor the bartender does a great job making drinks exactly the way you want them, so the cocktail in our group always like going.

Still outstanding 40 years after I celebrated my birthday there every dish was outstanding from the Classics menu.

A long standing "best of the best" for unique cuisine and ambience. The catfish and chicken salad are not to be missed. Perhaps one of the very few restaurants where I can say I have never had anything served from a unique menu that was less than 5 stars.

I hadn't been here in over 20 years so wasn't sure what to expect. The food was still delicious with fresh tasty ingredients. The service was great. I won't wait so long before returning.

Chinois was one of the first "fancy" restaurants that I ever dined at in LA, back in the late 80s. It was revelatory back then! We ended up there for my birthday this year because my family couldn't face the hours-long drive downtown to go a more au courant restaurant and I thought it would be a hoot to revisit Chinois. It turned out to be better than a hoot. While there was no shock and awe, after all these years, the food remains delicious and vibrant (and the trio of creme brulees is still one of the best desserts going), the service was on point, the restaurant was humming, and we had a brilliant dinner. The only cavil is that we mostly don't drink and the one wine drinker didn't need an entire bottle (or even half bottle) to himself, and the wine by the glass list was weak. A small fly in the ointment, as it were. Overall, we were delighted. We will be back (God willing)!

Chinois on Main remains the only true fusion cuisine anywhere. Wolfgang Puck's inspired combination of French and Chinese changed the face of dining everywhere. It is not to be missed! You cannot miss with the whole sizzling catfish, or the lobster risotto, or the Szechwan beef (with green beans). To start, the Chinese chicken salad (anytime) or the soft shelled crab (when in season, which is not often enough). Many places are good; Chinois is legendary.

Always a great experience. World class food, and a neighborhood feel. I eat there every visit to Santa Monica, which is 10 times per year.

I hadn’t been to Chinois in years and was wanting to return for the amazing meals I remembered having there with my family! Although it was all very good, it wasn’t as good as I remembered it being and of course the prices have all increased substantially as they have done everywhere. If you haven’t dined there and want a unique experience, I would highly recommend it.

Several entrees were inedible. Spare ribs over cooked and tough with no flavor. Peking duck tasted rancid along with it being tough, rubbery and just awful. Champagne by the glass was half flat. Chinese salad was delicious. Best thing about the evening was sitting by Larry David in our cramped table. For the money and the reputation , expected it to be fabulous but one of my biggest dining disappointments.

Everything at Chinois is perfect every time . It is timeless with Owners, Bella and all the staff. The old favorite dishes never disappoint and new flavors to explore. I have been a fan since the beginning and as locals we come regularly and for many occasions. Well Done 👏

Fun night! Chinese New Year with Lion Dancers. Food was great as usual, it never disappoints. Service is prompt and cheerful. Perennial favorite.

The food was good but not outstanding and Santa Monica is a dump. Santa Monica is not the Soho of SoCal as it use to be. It is now dirty, foul and I won't want to be caught on a side street in the dark - unsafe. The interior of Chinois needs to be updated/remodeled.

Great food and service! The Shanghai lobster was delicious. Also, the steamed sea bass was great. The host was gracious and the waiter was terrific. No complaints!

It's been too long since our last visit - but we should come more often! Wonderful potstickers and duck pancakes, excellent branzino and the vegetable fried rice was great. Killer chardonnay on the wine list for $35 - but you have to look in the White Burgundy section, just sayin'...
