Caro Amico Italian Cafe is located in a venerable mid-century building on Barbur Boulevard, just 20 blocks south of downtown Portland.

We are back open for both dine-in and take-out, Tuesday through Sunday, 4:00-9:00PM.

Full of history, memories, & Frank Sinatra songs from the 60's, Caro Amico qualifies for 'traditional' in the City's treasured old family restaurants. Situated just below 'Pill Hill,' Caro offers a view of Portland's burgeoning high rise waterfront and, of course, the 21st Century Aerial Tram as it makes its way from the waterfront below to the University Hospitals and Offices above.

Our Deck is open during the spring and summer months for Outdoor Dining . Enjoy Happy Hour in our Cozy Bar. 4:00-6:00PM.

Customers since 1956 - almost nothing has changed since then and their restoration after the fire was spot on. The original - and still the best pizza - in Portland!

Glad they’re back! Food was great, portions enough for 2 meals and great service. A bit noisy with a large party next to us, but it’s a small place and no way to avoid it-

We had the most wonderful Anniversary dinner. The cocktails and the toasted mozzarella garlic bread was FANTASTIC! I loved the Cannelloni and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her mushroom Ravioli. The owner even came by to congratulate us on our Anniversary!

We are longtime patrons of Caro Amico. So happy to see them back open. Worth the wait for a refreshed atmosphere. Food is excellent, keeping their quality and overall menu as we expected and remember through the years. Highly recommend!

My family and I had an amazing dinner here for my birthday. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Food and drinks are always delicious. I have tried so many different things from the menu and I love it all. We plan on coming back in a couple weeks for my nephew’s birthday, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is a fan of delicious Italian flavors.

This is the second time I have gotten sick from the scallops. Also, they were over cooked (2nd time). Service is usually great, not last night 😔 We love this place, what's happening?

Food was great as ever and the upgrades are nice. Service was pretty bad. 4 staff in the room , two occupied tables...they're all staring at a monitor with their backs to the room while we waited like 10 minutes to order??? Maybe they're training or something.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on Service at Caro Amico on Tuesday, April 9. I checked it out with the staff, and you're right about the training taking place in the Dining Room. I apologize for the slow service, and have met with the crew that night and hopefully that practice won't happen again. Thanks for your interest in Caro Amico.

Food was bland and while charged for my request of extra garlic in Aglio olio pasta, there was none instead of more. No Bolognese on the menu, but after the meal we were told they had it if you asked for it. Prices on the high side for very disappointing meals. We were double charged for one entree, but it was quickly and pleasantly resolved. Pizzas looked good and that may be there one strong point. Not likely to return.

Always great experience. Nice in house recipes with wonderful flavor and a tradition that is hard to beat. Been eating here for over 50 years .

We sat in the bar, which can get very loud. But the food was great! My favorites are the chopped salad, PSU Viking pizza and the lasagne.

This was long one of our very favorite restaurants but when the kitchen had a bad fire it was a couple of years before thy were able to reopen. It’s every bit as wonderful as it was before!

Best Italian food I’ve had in what feels like forever. The service was excellent. This is what going out to dinner used to feel like. I had forgotten what good service was like until I came here. Kind, attentive, polite servers, crazy good food and an old school atmosphere. This will be my new go-to spot for a date night or family dinner out

It must have been an off night. We had a 7:15 pm reservation, along with what seemed like 5 or 6 other parties, some of which were there and others who came in after us. We checked in on time and were told it would be a few minutes and the people who checked in right after us were sat first, having the same 7:15 reservation time and ahead of others who were already there waiting. How does that work? We waited and waited while standing in the small hallway, cooks were coming in and out of the door behind us and left a big pasta sauce stain on the back of my partner's jacket from dirty dishes, only to just say, oops, sorry! We were STILL waiting 45 minutes later to get seated with no communication from the hostess this whole time; we were standing right in front of her station for most of our wait. It got down to just us and one other party who came in much later, still waiting. I finally asked and commented about the wait and seating preference and lucky she found a table for us right away, as we were ready to walk out the door! They offered us a small complimentary dessert for the wait, which was nice, but we will not be rushing back there anytime soon.

Upon arrival, we were informed that our 7:30 dinner reservation only allowed us 15 minutes to order before the kitchen closed for the evening. Other members of our dinner party arrived at 7:32 and were locked out of the restaurant. Upon eventual entry, they were asked if they had a reservation instead of receiving an apology for the inconvenience. Very disappointing conduct from one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants.

We had our Valentine's Day dinner at Caro Amico. It was vry busy even at 5:30pm so we were lucky to get the last spot in their small parking lot. We were seated quickly and, recently remodeled, the placelooked great with many window with a view of the eastside. The server was very friendly and the garlic bread and a Caesar Salad we shared were delicious while we waited for our meal. While taking awhile to arrive the pasta were so good, wild mushroom ravioli in a cream sauce and fettuccini with shrimp. Worth waiting for and with the friendly staff stopping by to chat we had a very nice evening on ourspecial occassion dinner.

I was looking for veal parmigiana … wasn’t disappointed: excellent. The vegetables served with it were excellent too —- perfectly cooked. And the penne also!! Other entree was Scampi! Nine large shrimp. Great fresh pasta and delicious.

One of the few places in Portland with Manicotti, which is a friend's favorite meal. The food is fine and reasonably priced but the menu is limited in that there are no small plates unless someone wants to share. The restaurant doesn't serve soup or half salads and the appetizers cost as much as the entrees. Parking is limited and if the lot is full, parking in the surrounding neighborhood is not convenient.

We enjoyed a fabulous dinner. We were surprised we were seated early, ahead of our reservation. We requested a quiet corner because of husband’s hearing loss and our booth was perfect. Our server was very attentive but did pester. She was very helpful and friendly. Dinner was expensive but we will return! So nice to have Caro Amico back to us!

Not that the food wasn't good but I guess for the Portland area the food here is considered pretty good. I do think their red marinara sauces were very good.
