Situated in New Orleans' charming Arts District, Carmo is a tropical restaurant, bar and cultural center with a commitment to providing fresh, flavorful, healthy and affordable dishes in a warm, friendly and casual atmosphere. Chef Dana Honn's menu is built upon the rich, multi-cultural culinary influences found throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America, West Africa, Southeast Asia, Gulf South and beyond, featuring eclectic and traditional/traditionally-inspired dishes with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, as well as unique and little-known flavors from around the world. “Origins to table” is the term Honn uses to describe the narratives of the dishes, connecting ingredients to food traditions and ultimately the people who originally created those traditions. From our fresh local seafood and produce to heritage and organic meats, Carmo caters to vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians and omnivores alike.

Located on Julia Street in the Warehouse District, Carmo is an outstanding---and unique example of how ethnic food can be both flavorful and healthy. Though I had been to Peru decades ago, I had never tasted food like my husband and I tasted last week. Highly recommend the Seafood Soup, the Farmer's Market Salad and the Banquette Bread. We also had mocktails called Easy Breezy," which were simply wonderful. Bonus Tip: Go on a weeknight when it is less likely to be crowded---and parking is likely to be easier, too.

My guests food was late after asking many times. We ordered the same dish. Asked the waitress 4 times. And waited 45 minutes.

This used to be one of her favorite restaurants. The night we went, was very crowded, and they were a bit overwhelmed. Food is good, but not as great as it normally is. Also, they brought all the food at once, instead of bringing out the three courses they ordered separately.

Awesome food and excellent service. Great choices between pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan offerings. Sometimes the same dish made to different requirements.

Out of items already at 7 pm on a weekday, cocktails had to be sent back for missing ingredients, service was spotty (ran out of water twice, had to ask); on the positive side, the food was very good and location excellent. We’ll try again based on the reputation of the chef and the food we did get.

A great space but the vibe was disrupted by a large group that was having a Christmas gift opening session. For some reason, the music was turned off so all we could hear was their party. Ordering the food was confusing as it wasn’t clear if we had a server or was doing this online. Some of the dishes were good and others were too salty. There could be more balance. would not recommend this place or return.
