Bringing 1940s Paris to modern-day Edinburgh, Café St Honoré restaurant is a charming bistro serving up traditional French cuisine (with a few Scottish favourites thrown in) to a loyal clientele. Tucked away on a picturesque cobbled lane in the New Town, the cosy dining room at Café St Honore, with mirrored walls and black-and-white tiled floors, provides an atmospheric retreat. The team here are passionate about local, organic produce, so the menu changes daily. There are prix fixe menus on offer at lunch and dinner if you’re after a bargain, or just need an excuse to indulge in dessert. In the evening, a seasonal menu du jour is available alongside the full a la carte, which features dishes like roast pheasant with red cabbage and pancetta; Our warming Cafe St Honore Cassoulet; and vanilla crème brûlée. The wine list features some excellent French wines – a real treat for novices and connoisseurs alike.

A wonderful night; excellent service; food is a bit more expensive- the ingredients are from quality suppliers, the food was delicious. We go for special occasions and this didn’t disappoint. Quite unobtrusive but friendly service. Thank you for a wonderful night

This Cafe is like a frech brasserie. It offers on a small menu always fresh and changing dishes. It has a beautiful atmosphere and gives time to eat and talk. The service is very attentive and answers every question. The food is made from local farms and mostly organic. It is worth to return frequently as the menu changes due to seasonal variations. Amazing choice!!!

I have dined at Cafe St Honore many times when visiting Edinburgh and always been delighted with the food and experience, but was disappointed on this occasion. I chose the Sunday roast, but it was cool, roast potatoes were hard and there were few vegetables. It seemed as if the food had been plated in advance and not freshly prepared. The best part was the bread!

The food was not great. Sadly, it wasn’t even very good. We ordered a starter and 2 entrees. My entree, the risotto was basically inedible. So much cheese or butter/grease that it was in-palatable (the bits of lettuce on top the only redeeming features). My husband ordered some type of beef and it wasn’t cooked evenly.

Lovely evening out with friends. Food was excellent as always. Lovely French style restaurant that has stood the test of time and remains an Edinburgh establishment. Service friendly and attentive. Lovely ambiance. Hopefully back again soon.

Everything was perfect about our visit to Cafe St Honore. The food was amazing, and service great. Every dish was beautifully prepared and presented. We had scallops and the ham terrine starters. I had lamb and wife ordered the flat iron steak. We both had the choux bun for dessert. Everything was delicious. We can’t wait to go back.

Love this restaurant- it’s a little gem. Never fails to deliver delicious food in a beautiful setting with lovely staff. I had dinner with my three friends who also loved it. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Charming location on a quiet side street of Thistle St., and we could not have had a lovelier meal. Surprisingly modern French food, with friendly service, and a very welcoming environment.

Very disappointing menu. Went for dinner on Saturday night. The layout is very French brasserie style. However tbe menu was very disappointing. It was a Saturday evening so you would expect a full menu. There were only 3 choices for main course - one vegetarian, cod or pork belly. No beef, lamb or poultry. So not an authentic brasserie menu The food itself was good but too limited in choice. . And why do British restaurants not serve bread with the meal as French ones do?

Restaurant was cold and after booking for 8pm we started eating at 8.50. We felt the menu was disappointing, with not much choice, our daughter's pork belly was dry, although my and my husband's cod was quite tasty. The staff members are always polite and attentive. I think the restaurant needs a makeover, sitting at à cold window table on a hard seat didn't transport us to the Left Bank.

I enjoyed returning to this restaurant, with a friendly feel and delicious food, much of it locally sourced. I needed quite a quick meal before going to a concert, and the timing was perfect. Delicious bread was brought to the table while I waited for my organic shepherds' pie, followed by an imaginative rhubarb dessert. I also chose and enjoyed a glass of French white wine, Thank you to all the team!

We had the set menu. Food very good but I feel slightly overpriced for a simple soup and casserole with mash. I felt cold throughout my meal which also affected my enjoyment.

We were on a tour bus which was running very late. I called the restaurant and they were able to delay our reservation without a problem. When we arrived at the restaurant, the staff was accommodating and sweet. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will visit this restaurant again the next time we’re in Edinburgh 😊.

Food was delicious. Staff were there when you needed them but not intrusive. Ideal for a relaxed evening. Would have liked the option of extra vegetables on the side.

Food was delicious and well presented (I had flat steak special cooked to perfection)! Scotland had just beaten England at Murrayfield, so the Ambiance couldn’t have been better. Unfortunately however the service was very slow…it took too long to be served! Wine was overpriced.

A long standing institution on the “French corner” of Frederick and Thistle, reliable and authentic. Food was country fare rather than haute cuisine, which is why the prices sting, but cooking, presentation and service were faultless. I guess so many couples order one dessert and two spoons is the reason they are twice the price of desserts in this kind of place only a couple of years back. 12.5% service charge added to the bill. Too bad for the charming and efficient staff, I’d have given 15%, but I realise demanding a tip brings in much more for them. They deserve it.

Classic cuisine, excellent ingredients using the best of Scottish seasonal produce, cooked really well. Nothing pretentious, staff are helpful and courteous. What's not to like about Cafe St Honore?

A delightful lunch in this lovely French restaurant. Food was excellent with a very good house wine to accompany it. Service was attentive but not over eager. Background french cafe style music provided a very appropriate accompaniment to our meal. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

We hadn't been to Cafe St Honore for a number of years, but given the generally favourable reviews decided to give it a try. We came away disappointed and very underwhelmed. The food was reasonable, but given the price we were paying, there was not a lot of culinary skill on show. The top priced menu item - £35 - was a steak, basic salad leaves, and rustic chips. It was ok, but nothing special. My wife's starter - a couple of chunks of Crowdie cheese and the same salad leaves, plus some pan fried broccoli - again , not much imagination. Sorry, but there was really nothing that made us want to return. The cost was around £100 all-up for us both - we didn't have any significant drinks, then a 12.5% service charge as standard, so overall hard to rate as value for money. Even though it is in a city centre location, with high rates, there are other restaurants similarly located, and targeting the same clientele, offering much better value for money.

Another lovely visit to Cafe St Honoré. I have been coming for many years since my parents introduced me to the restaurant, and we were back last year for my mother's 85th birthday. The food and wine was excellent as ever, and the service & ambience first rate. Will be top of the list for my next visit to Edinburgh.

This place is a hidden gem and looks magical from the outside and the atmosphere inside is wonderful. Candle lit and cosy - you really could be in Paris - the food and service are both impeccable. I had the best risotto I’ve ever had (how do they get so much flavour into a risotto?!).

What a great french bistro in the middle of Edinburgh. Lovely staff and service. Food was very good (even if the menu is a little limited - but once you get here you realize its seasonal). But what they have is very well cooked and served as intended.
