Welcome to a taste of history!

Denver’s original steakhouse, The Buckhorn Exchange is located in the city’s oldest neighborhood, just 5-minutes from downtown Denver -- with a light-rail stop right across the street. This National Historic Landmark and Western Museum has been serving the finest in Old West fare since 1893.

Prime grade beef steaks, buffalo prime rib, elk, salmon, quail, game hen, and succulent baby-back pork ribs are just some of the marvelous offerings on the Buckhorn menu. Exotic appetizers such as alligator tail and buffalo sausage are available, and no dinner is complete without the house specialty, Rocky Mountain Oysters.

For lunch we serve up a lighter fare including our renowned Grandma Fanny’s pot roast sandwich, enormous beef and buffalo burgers and more!

The Big Steak

Steak Dinner Our Specialty There is an old sign on the north side of the building that says 'Steak Dinners Our Specialty.' The same legend was also found on old menus and newspaper advertising. In keeping with this tradition, the Buckhorn Exchange offers large-portion steaks, intended for two to five guests. The steaks are cut from our New York strip loins, with the tail removed and all but a very thin layer of the fat cover. Cooked large like this, a lovely crust is formed and most agree that is the only thing better than our steaks that are cooked for one. Your steak is carved tableside and served with a sizzling crock of sautéed mushrooms and onions. Of course, soup or salad and side dish are included as with all our dinners. Additional cooking time is required

Blackened buffalo prime rib was delicious! Staff extremely knowledgeable about the history and so much of it inside

The superb quality meat is the star of the show here. My blackened Buffalo prime rib was perfectly medium rare all the way through. The bean soup was tasty. The rice and side veggies were okay, but more of a side thought. Had the Buckhorn Old Fashion, and I really enjoyed it. Our server, Casey, was polite and efficient. Staff checked on us periodically. All were polite. The amount of history in the restaurant is amazing, and I enjoyed viewing it. Had an after dinner drink at the small but very well stocked bar on the 2nd floor. Make a reservation because this place was full when we walked in and full when we departed.

The history of this place is a huge part of its charm but there’s also a reason it’s been in business for over 100 years. The food is great, choices are aplenty and there is so much to look at. Get the soup they’ve been serving for 130 years, you won’t regret it!

Our waitress Stefanie was outstanding! I took my son and girlfriend to dinner to celebrate a birthday and the night was wonderful!

Great Caesar Salad, historic location. Excellent meats. The standout by far was the peppercorn bison. Skip the elk. The steak was also good but that bison was outstanding. The alligator and Rocky Mountain oysters were a fun add, but inessential

Nothing wrong with food just a different vibe than what we were looking for. This is not an upper end steakhouse. Ambience is cool but it still feels like more or a tourist trap. Steaks were good not great.
