Welcome to a taste of history!

Denver’s original steakhouse, The Buckhorn Exchange is located in the city’s oldest neighborhood, just 5-minutes from downtown Denver -- with a light-rail stop right across the street. This National Historic Landmark and Western Museum has been serving the finest in Old West fare since 1893.

Prime grade beef steaks, buffalo prime rib, elk, salmon, quail, game hen, and succulent baby-back pork ribs are just some of the marvelous offerings on the Buckhorn menu. Exotic appetizers such as alligator tail and buffalo sausage are available, and no dinner is complete without the house specialty, Rocky Mountain Oysters.

For lunch we serve up a lighter fare including our renowned Grandma Fanny’s pot roast sandwich, enormous beef and buffalo burgers and more!

The Big Steak

Steak Dinner Our Specialty There is an old sign on the north side of the building that says 'Steak Dinners Our Specialty.' The same legend was also found on old menus and newspaper advertising. In keeping with this tradition, the Buckhorn Exchange offers large-portion steaks, intended for two to five guests. The steaks are cut from our New York strip loins, with the tail removed and all but a very thin layer of the fat cover. Cooked large like this, a lovely crust is formed and most agree that is the only thing better than our steaks that are cooked for one. Your steak is carved tableside and served with a sizzling crock of sautéed mushrooms and onions. Of course, soup or salad and side dish are included as with all our dinners. Additional cooking time is required

I’m here from Milwaukee for a conference in Denver, and made my reservation for the Buckhorn Exchange before I ever left town, and it was completely worth the trip. Wanderlust is my favorite word, so I was really excited to visit, even if it was by myself. The waitstaff were so friendly and attentive, the food was amazing, and they even told me a bit about some of the artifacts they have around the restaurant, and they encouraged me to walk around and check it out. I would have loved to get up close and read everything, and take more photos, but I didn’t want to interrupt other diners experience.

I took a friend visiting from OR who is a hunter. She was overly impressed with the food! The service! The atmosphere! She’s going to come back and bring her nephew all the way from OR! FANTABULOUS EXPERIENCE!!!

Food is EXTREMELY overpriced for what you get. Not worth the visit, unless you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on very small cuts of meat.

Amazing place! The artifacts they have is like in a museum and we appreciated the history. The food was top notch delicious. We had the special buffalo and elk steaks, one and half pound New York steak for two, and apple pie. The cocktail was great. The service was excellent and attentive and they answered any questions and showed us the historical photos on the wall. This place will stay in our memory.

It was our first time ever, as we come from Europe. We got a table upstairs in the secondary location (not the real restaurant) at 8 o’clock The food was amazing though. And the server friendly. But we got the feeling, that we were rushed out the door, so they could close up upstairs. We were the last guests upstairs. It was both disappointing and stressful and we didn’t appreciate it. We barely finished our food before the plates were removed and everybody was running around cleaning up. And we still had our drinks and it was only 9 o’clock. When we left there was still people dining downstairs in a cozy and stressles atmosphere.

The chair we were stuck in was very wobbly and uncomfortable. Also, the tenderloin was quite gristly.

You can’t go to Denver without having dinner at the Buckhorn Exchange! The history is fascinating and the cultural artifacts and story behind everything there is incredible. And the food is terrific! The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable and very attentive. I have been there on multiple occasions with clients I’m entertaining and we have never been disappointed! I highly recommend!!

Just not a good meal by any means. The decor and the history were cool but the food was terrible. I don’t know if it was an off night but I won’t be back to find out.

Waiter was in a bad mood from the moment we walked in. Every question we asked seemed to annoy him. The bread was below average, salads were good, and the overpriced steak and prime rib were just ok.
