A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history: "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today - just to name a few.

Well-known for our signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée, the Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.

Located near the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, the Brigantine features fireside seating in a casual dining room, and in the adjacent lounge. Outdoor dining is available on one of our intimate patios, which include both fireplace and water features.

Private dining is available.

The Escondido Brigantine serves dinner 7 nights a week, and lunch Monday-Saturday. Join us for our signature Happy Hour.

Waitress was not attentive. Greeted me in Spanish. Didn’t ask how I wanted my steak cooked. The meat was chewy and tough and saturated in a glaze and not crusted like the menu stated. Way overpriced for the quality.

All was good loved the atmosphere, service great ! We ordered the crab shrimp fondue fabulous ! Our entrees were bacon wrapped crab stuffed shrimp and the seared ahi . Ahi was good but the shrimp I took a bite and had all shell in my mouth the tails were left on under the crab and bacon , so you don’t see the inside . Well it scratched my throat I started to gag so embarrassing and sore . Needless to say wasn’t interested in finishing my food . Either warn with ordering tails on , I would not order . Or take them off . So shrimp now will be approached differently when I get back to wanting shrimp again .

A return to this restaurant and it was as good as ever. Friendly greeting and to table straight away. Cheerful waiter took our order with a social chat. He made recommendations but went for house speciality swordfish. Changed rice for French fries and it was excellent. The brocoli was a bit aldentedfor my taste but cutting off stalks it was fine. Creme caramel to finish good and creamy with fresh fruit on top. What more could you ask for?

Our server Ann is great! The fried artichoke hearts are wonderful. Had the Caesar salad and coconut shrimp. Both are really delicious. A wonderful experience

I have dined at Brigantine, Escondido many times over the past 15 years. The service and food are always excellent. I appreciate that in addition to lively inside bar and outdoor patio dining, they have an enclosed indoor dining room that supports a quiet environment for conversation. I wish to make special mention of a server that has attended my table many times through the years. His name is Inocente. His service and engaging personality are the best!

We are regulars at Brigantine, so this review is based on this experience. We had the BLT salad which was wonderful and then my husband had his regular sand dabs, which was wonderful. I had the crab stuffed shrimp, which was a l overcooked which made it dry. The mashed potatoes with it were very tasty. However, the green beans needed to be cooked longer. I had a craving for a dessert and tried the mud pie. While it was big in size, it lacked flavor. You could taste the cookie crust and the whip cream, but the ice cream had no flavor whatsoever.

We arrived at 2 with a reservation for 4, for St Patrick’s day. I usually LOVE this place, but our service was painfully slow, even though the restaurant was only half full. Our server was very nice, but the bartender made mistakes with two drink orders and we had to wait some more. I suspect understaffing was the problem as we were told some waitstaff was sent home early. Our food was pretty good once we got it. It’s too bad our experience wasn’t perfect, but please don’t understaff on a weekend, because things can change quickly. We will be back another time for a better experience, hopefully, in the future…

Kristin was a wonderful waitress. We had great food and a fun time. Brig salad was delicious, sand dabs are consistently good. Mud pie for birthday dessert is superb.

The crab stuffed tiger shrimp were excellent and so were the drinks. My negative was that there was no one at the hostess station and we waited over 5 minutes for someone to speak to us. That is very odd, especially considering we had a reservation. The French dip was good but a bit messy because the au jus spilled on the plate.

The Brig salad never disappoints and is big enough for two. The crab cake appetizer makes a good entre. If you find yourself in Escondido, the Brigantine is the place for lunch.

Service bad - didn't bring requested items (lemons, salt/pepper, avocados); brought out wrong entree; others ate while I waited Food - shrimp cocktail good once we got lemons; bouillabaisse wasn't bouillabaisse but bland seafood atop minimal broth with no flavor; not much for vegetarian except mediocre salad; shrimp wrapped in bacon was good Since I didn't eat most of my entree, server asked if I liked it. I said no. He returned promptly with the bill, which I paid and then left.

So valentine’s Day was just ok we spent every special occasions at the brig, and this time we felt rushed out, and my swordfish was undercooked and gross. I couldn’t finish it. Normally the brig swordfish is good, but this time it even smelt fishy. Overall disappointed for Valentine’s Day. CS

We felt it was overbooked and understaffed. Our waitress was very pleasant and did the best she could as she was on overload. When I placed my order I was told they were out of filet mignon! I feel when a menu is presented it should be told to a customer at that time. It was our anniversary so we were somewhat disappointed. The food is good and the Brussels sprouts were over the top!

We sat in the outdoor lounge area and there was a noisy heater/fan that sounded like a helicopter. It disrupted the ambiance. There was little to no music and just that fan noise. Plus there was a noisy truck in the gas station outside which made me keenly aware I was sitting in a parking lot. The service was great. The food was so-so. The wagyu burger was not as good as I expected it to be. The fries were not warm enough. My Caesar salad had too much dressing. For my birthday I got a complimentary huge slice of mud pie for dessert. Very generous, but not as good flavor as it could have been. I’ve had better.

We are visiting from MI and wanted a good place to enjoy seafood. Simply based on location and reviews we gave Brigantine a try. WOW!! Choices were excellent! Food preparation - AMAZING! Service-pretty good, but some delays as our wait staff got blasted with two large groups as we were eating our meal. Not her fault at all, we had to wait a bit to get our check. If we come back to the SD/Escondido area-we would definitely come back. (We ordered the scallops and shrimp and grits…DELISH!! Perfectly cooked and super flavors!

The restaurant had a nice ambiance and the service was in general, good. The food, though, wasn’t. The salad with crabs and shrimp had too much going on: greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and avocados. Fish and chips had both fries and fish over fried. And fries would be better chopped as wedges. Will get them one more chance, and see.
