    The food was great the drinks were good we weren't rushed. It was a first date so it was nice that we could talk. I would recommend this place as a great restaurant.

    This was a dinner to celebrate my parents' birthdays (they are both in their 90's). The table was in a good location, with a view of the river. Service started out fine, but then dropped off. We told the waiter to give us 5 minutes to review the menu. He disappeared for 20 minutes. After our order was placed (entrees only, no starters), it took close to an hour for the food to arrive. The food was fine, but was overpriced for the serving size. After dinner we asked for coffees, which took 15 minutes to arrive. We again seemed to be ignored, until I was finally able to flag down the waiter and ask for the bill. When he arrived with the bill, another table called him over asking for their bill. He dealt with their request first (which involved a gift certificate which took a long time to process), and didn't get back to us for close to 15 minutes. In the end, we were in the restaurant for 3 hours, far longer than I would expect. My only guess is that, as a party made up of 2 elderly people and one man clearly in his 60's, the waiter suspected we wouldn't leave a large tip and so focused on other customers. In this, he turned out to be correct, but my lower than usual tip (12%) was due to the lower than usual service. There are many excellent restaurants in New Westminster, including others with a river view. Next time I take my parents out for a meal I'll be going to one of them. (Incidentally, this is the first negative review I have ever posted about any restaurant. I am not in the habit of posting negative reviews, but The Boathouse failed on a number of fronts, including several I have not mentioned in this review.)

    I am a regular and have been for years. Not sure why they decided to start playing loud music in the dining room, especially around 4:30/5:00 but it was a major turn off. Food was ok but wasn’t a fan of what I ordered tonight. Also was disappointed to find out Happy Hour no longer applied to people seated in the dining room. The overall service was amazing, and love that Michael makes me (and all his regulars I’m sure) feel special. To be honest, that’s what draws me back.

    The drinks took too long. Not sure if our server had tables in different areas and pricy for wine. Some plates were pre bussed but then others left on table. My wine carafe was chipped The calamari was blah is it frozen? Tastes cheap

    The service was extremely low. The server spilled wine both times. I felt the oysters may have be frozen. The location and the ambiance are the best things about the Boathouse.

    The kitchen was behind which impacted the time it took to get our food. Over two and a half hours is far too long to sit for a meal with two children under the age of ten.

    The food was excellent, no complaints there. The low rating is due to the fact that food delivery was extremely slow. We arrived at 4:30pm and it took 3.5 hours to complete the meal. We did not dilly, it took nearly two hours for the entrees to arrive. When I asked if they were understaffed, the server said no, the kitchen had just under-estimated reservations and had not done enough prep work. It was Mother’s Day! Our server was nice and friendly but did not check in with us for a whole hour while we were waiting for our entrees and apologized only at delivery. Additionally, they kept a lot of people waiting in the lobby while there were many empty tables. I do not understand why they did not seat those people - it’s more comfortable to wait at a table than in the lobby. The restaurant should have informed customers (both those waiting in the lobby and waiting at tables) that food delivery is unusually slow and apologize for it. Many customers can be quite understanding when the situation is explained. Next time, just let us know what’s going on…and also, plan ahead for Mother’s Day. All the best to the crew. I’ll still be back but hope not have to be there 3.5 hours.

    This feedback is specific to my visit on Mother's day. I made a reservation at 3:30pm, thinking that this would be a quieter time to enjoy a meal with my mom. We showed up to our reservation about 15 minutes early and checked in. The person at the desk asked me to come back in 5 or 10 minutes as our table was being prepared. We returned and we were seated. Our waiter then came by and let us know that the kitchen was running behind and that it would take between an hour to an hour and a half to get food. We decided to leave as a result. This was very disappointing! I would have really appreciated being told this before we were seated.
