We have been to Benihana for many years, but it was the very first time we really enjoyed the show. The cook, Aries, performed some awesome tricks that we never saw before. The food he cooked was very tasty, too. I’d recommend folks to request for Aries.

If I could give it zero stars I would. We waited for a chef to come to us for more than an hour and a half. After all that waiting we asked when we were going to get helped there was no definite answer. So we just had to leave. Everyone seemed lost and no answers.

I got seated then waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for a chef to show up to our table, waitress was extremely rude gave everyone drink refills with no ice, took 1 hour to get the vegetable tempura appetizer, no one asked if it was anyone’s birthday, chef didn’t say one word once he did arrive. Food was great everything else sucked, I go a lot and will not go back to this location again, I’ll drive to dt San Diego or in Oc. Ruined my birthday dinner

First time at Benihana, the hostesses were unfriendly and they did not leave a good impression. The bathrooms were not clean, they were old and did not have toilet paper. the place looked outdated and poorly maintained. We had to wait for about an hour to get our table, and once seated we had to wait longer. The server was ok, the chef was friendly and the highlight of our experience was watching the chef cook and doing tricks. I do not think it’s worth the money.

Our chef Nick, was spectacular, our waitress was as well. The only problem we had, was waiting 45 minutes past our reservation to be seated. They told us 20 minutes but it was 45 and people weren’t happy about that because we made reservations.

We had a reservations and still had to wait over an hour. They should not over book like that because everyone was complaining. Overall the food was AMAZING tho so can’t complain on that part!

We had a reservation, but they still made us wait for 30 mins. It took even longer for the chef to come to our table and cook the food. Wait staff and chef were good, but the overall experience was ok.

I had a large group reservation that required two tables. I made this reservation over a week ago, and the host made noted stating we'd like the two tables that face each other, naturally. I had a 6pm reservation, checked in at 5:45 and wasn't seated until 6:50. When I asked at 625 about being seated, they said they were waiting for the people at the tables to leave. At 645 i spoke to a manager, and he proceeded to just give the same reasons for the delay as the host had. Being that we were seated almost an hour after my reservation leads me to believe there was no planning on their part. Furthermore, I gave my CC to the host to give our waiter so my step-dad wouldn't pay (because he does that often) and when it came to the end of dinner, I look over and see he has the little machine and just paid for dinner! When I asked my server about it and asked where my CC was, he had no idea what I was talking about, they didn't know where my CC was and proceeded to ask me who I had given it too. I enjoyed my family, but the lack of planning and communication at this Benihana was beyond disappointing.

It’s been at least 25 years since I have been to a Benihana- and this time did not disappoint. The reason for the visit was to bring our young children to enjoy the live hibachi chef experience. Chef David was great at not only preparing our meals, but he engaged with our sons and daughter throughout the whole meal. We were celebrating our son’s birthday month and the whole service team made us feel special. To have all three of the kids say it was the best dinner out they have had was very special.

FIRST TIMERS We were sat with 2 other parties that were not engaging at all . The chef had a face mask and we could hardly hear him or his jokes . I want to believe that the chef gave up a bit due to the bigger party not engaging . They killed the mood. I went for my wife’s birthday. We caught ourselves looking at other tables and wanting to sit at them . Credit to our chef for trying but it was a poor performance nonetheless . Our waiter was ok . IT WAS OUR FIRST TIME and we weren’t shown how to order or anything . The other tables waiters walked through the menu with their guest . Ours didn’t . It was discouraging . My food was ok. Chicken wings overcooked and dry . My steak and teriyaki was overcooked as well . I asked for it medium and it was well overcooked . It became very chewy . My wife’s dinner was was ok too . We came with high expectations and left very disappointed. I tried my hardest to come here with an open mind and love this place . But to come here as first timers on my wife’s birthday was heartbreaking . What are the odds that this would’ve happened to us .

Food was under seasoned. Watched another chef cook, and he was so much better at the seasoning and the cooking. Rather expensive for what you got. Probably won’t go back.

We were seated at our table and left there for 90 minutes before a chef came to start cooking for us. We asked for the manager to explain the long wait he said that’s just the way it is there were two more tables before us before a chef would be coming to cook, so we sat and waited longer. Ridiculous if it worked for my grandson‘s birthday, we would’ve left. The manager basically told us he didn’t care. I will say when the chef finally came the chef was amazing very entertaining, but that was the only good part about the evening, we come here every year for birthdays we will not be coming back the service the food and the way they treat their customers has totally gone downhill. Say nothing of the prices going up better places to spend my money.

The food was prepared at the table by the chef and was seasoned excellently and was very tasty and delicious, the waitress was very attentive and we didn't have to ask for anything, as she was always there. A new menu with price increases was there since we last went to Benihana's in December 2023, but the birthday certificate value of $30. has remained the same for many years, even though there are very few dinners that can be purchased for less than $30. Overall, the experience was wonderful and we would recommend Benihana's for a wonderful dining experience.

Sent my son and 10 friends there for his birthday. After making a reservation for 7:30 and calling the day of dinner to make sure of time of reservation and to make sure I didn’t have to be there as an “adult” to group of 17 year olds. I got a text at 8:50 from son saying they haven’t had a chef yet and we’re all starving. I called to see if there was problem and was “disconnected”. I called back and got same person that after explaining we were “disconnected” just asked what I expected them to do. Son texted at 9 to say they sent chef over All the boys said they enjoyed the chef and their waitress. Local high school graduates that were very friendly. So for the two of them I would give 5 stars for service They said they were the last ones in restaurant and food was just okay. With spending almost 600 I would not expect to wait almost an hour and a half for dinner to start.

Benihana Carlsbad has long been a favorite. We go every year to celebrate birthdays. The food this year was exceptionally good. Service was good. The place was absolutely full and bustling but that means it is good, which it is. Don’t usually take the time to leave reviews but this restaurant seems to be working overtime. After arriving for our reservation, we waited a long time to be seated. Once seated at the table our drinks and appetizers arrived late. It seems they forgot about our entire table and the chef was sent to our table over an hour after we were seated.

It was loud, but that is expected. The food was delicious, and surprisingly did not cost as much as I expected, as I had never eaten here prior. Our chef was funny and cooked everything perfectly. My girlfriend had an amazing birthday dinner and it was amazing for me for my first visit. When I can afford to eat at a place like this again, I will definitely go back.

Service and food was outstanding. Our Chef and server were very attentive. food was cooked to perfection.

We got seated 45 minutes after our reservation time even though we arrived early. And then there was another 30-40 minute wait before dinner service started.

First and last time dining here. Hostess was horrible and unwelcoming (4/5 at 3:30pm). Took forever to get seated and served. Food was mediocre, Sho Gun is WAY better.
