Le Beatrix est un restaurant de quartier, un café et un lieu de rencontre situé dans le quartier River North à Chicago. Les chefs partenaires Susan Weaver, Rita Dever et John Chiakulas ont créé un menu inspiré par la nourriture faite dans la cuisine laboratoire du Lettuce. Le Beatrix est ouvert tous les jours pour le déjeuner, le dîner, le souper et en fin de soirée, ainsi que pour le brunch le samedi et le dimanche. No recognition for the birthday girl on her birthday. Arrived 5 mins early and couldn’t be seated until “closer to reservation”

Went Mother’s Day. Food was cold. Ordered a bottle of wine for the table and was brought a glass as server put in order wrong. Then instead of bringing the wine back and bringing the bottle there was no sign of server for another 10mins to confirm again a bottle was ordered and for 15 minutes for the bottle of wine. Food then came at same time and was cold. Server never checked in again after that. Very poor experience, seems to be lacking staff and also staff there are untrained or are unwilling to be apologetic and to try resolve messups.

Much improved since previous visits! Steaks were cooked perfectly, lemon pancakes were soufflé-like, and the enchiladas were nicely sauced and spiced. We had to wait a little long for first interaction with our server, but he was very attentive from that point on.

Beatrix can normally be reliable dining choice. It’s not gourmet food, but honest comfort food that is relatively healthy. Not this past Tuesday night. Although it wasn’t busy, the Brussels sprouts we ordered spent too much time in the frier and were burnt. The pistachio-crusted whitefish was too salty to consume. Not on par for the Beatrix we know and mostly love.

I’ve been to Beatrix River North several times. The food is usually good. Their menu hasn’t changed much over time. When I went yesterday, I had really poor service. The server was rather rude, and everything has to be requested rather than offered, e.g. sweetener for my tea which I requested and never received and had to walk over to the bar to ask for some, refill of coffee which was not offered but had to be requested, and the hovering near the end of the meal to seemingly push us to leave when we went around 2pm on a Sunday when the weather was nice and the restaurant not even close to full. The eggs your way looked like they had been sitting scrambled for some time rather than freshly prepared, the hash browns in a square were cold, and the toast was served dry without butter or jam, both of which had to be requested and when they arrived the toast was no longer warm. The bakery had no scones either. All in all, a disappointing visit to this Chicago mainstay.

We had the chicken enchiladas and they were amazing! Had the whipped feta, which was very good, but I personally preferred the hot honey Brussels sprouts I’d tried on a previous visit.

Beatrix is always amazing and they went above and beyond to help us celebrate our engagement. I wouldn’t want to celebrate with any other restaurant!

One of my top favorite restaurants in River North. The food is always perfect-drinks too. Friendly service. Nicely paced. Go see-taste-experience for yourself!
