Our server was very friendly and helped us choose some items on the menu. However almost waited an hour for 3 sushi rolls. The sushi was fresh but not sure the long wait was worth the experience for a few rolls.

This was our first time eating at Banbu Sushi & Grill. The food was amazing! Everything we ate was flavorful. The drinks were also very good. We celebrated my husband’s birthday which was on the weekend. The place was packed. I guess they don’t do anything special for birthdays like some restaurants. We still had a wonderful time and hope to return soon.

Quite possibly one of the worst dining experiences we have had in San Diego. When we arrived, the hostess made eye contact with us, but said nothing. Once we checked in and were seated, it took about 10 minutes for our server to bring us waters and check in. At this point it was 7:15. The drinks came out relatively quick, and we ordered our meals at 7:20. We ordered two sushi rolls (both raw, served cold), and an order of vegetable yakisoba. Then we waited. We waited about 15 minutes, before our server asks us if we want another drink while we wait. Then we waited another 10 minutes, when the server came back and said the kitchen was behind. Normally that would be fine, kitchens have their days. But about 45 minutes after we ordered, we were informed that the sushi bar was backed up. I received my yakisoba at 8:10 (50 minutes after we ordered), and my partner got her rolls at 8:15 (55 minutes after we ordered). The prices were also downtown prices, while the restaurant was on a busy street and was loud on the outskirts of La Mesa. Any restaurant that charges this much, would have offered an appetizer or a drink on the house, or take a small item off the bill. But Banbu sushi did not. And on top of that, the food was just meh. At the end of the day, the only redeeming factor of Banbu sushi was our waiter, who did come check on us and did his best to keep us in the loop. We hoped to have a nice date night, but we left disappointed and frustrated. We will not be returning to Banbu Sushi, and you would be better off going to a small, independent sushi restaurant for sushi that is twice as good for half the price.

Everything we ordered tasted great and was professionally presented. Chloe was wonderful and helpful. We'll ask for her table next time.

Great service. Tables are a little small and close together, could be better. Glad I finally tried this place but the sushi rolls and menu overall seemed pricey, especially for La Mesa. Shrimp appetizer and spicy edamame were great, one sushi roll was yummy, other just okay. Had a delicious spicy plum sake.

This is a go to spot for me. Its not the greatest spot, but I love it. When I don't know where to go, or if I just want to go somewhere where I won't be disappointed, this is my spot. Good food and good service, what else can you ask for. Even though they get busy at times, they still find a way to attend to you and that matter to me. Check this place out and you wont be disappointed.
