Amrheins has been a Boston tradition since 1890. For over a century, diners throughout the city of Boston have been welcomed into Amrheins to enjoy quality meals amongst friends and neighbors. Today that tradition continues in our updated facility. Despite the renovations in 2005, Amrheins is still full of history. Amrheins is the proud home of the oldest hand carved bar in America and still has the first Draft Beer pump in Boston on display. Renee, our server, made our day. She was comical, fun, and added to the dinner experience. The food our entire party enjoyed the food. Good choice. Stop in if you are in the neighborhood.

Our server was amazing. Guys liked their burgers. Women ordered pasta with tomato sauce and it needs a little help. The sauce is jarred and the chicken was dry and tough and lacked flavor. It’s in a great location with an old town feel.

We were celebrating a birthday and our server, Renee, thoughtfully put a candle in the dessert and serenaded us with a "Happy Birthday". She is a really attemtive server and made us feel very welcome. Be sure to request her. Food was excellent.

We were seated at a dirty table that wasn’t wiped down. Took 15 minutes before waitress took our drink and app order. 45 minutes for appetizers to be served. Food was sub par and overcooked and overpriced

I would definitely recommend this restaurant! I went here for my birthday with 4 other people and we all loved every food we got. Our waitress was also incredible. Great place!

Brunch was delicious, several different options and even my very picky toddler was happy. Service was great…. Chloe handled our large group like a pro!

I can't believe this place exists. Incredibly low prices for good food (and a good amount of food). Also, free parking? Can't wait to go back.

We went during their slower time, so it was quiet. I can imagine when its busy it is quite energetic. Service was casual friendly and food was good!

We came here for the history, but at least we momentarily spent a minute looking at the beautiful bar. We were here on a Sunday evening at 7 and there was only a couple of other dining tables and a few people at the bar. They touted their calamari and it was ok, not great, not bad. Our server was very nice, but every time we asked about the history of the establishment, she started to say something about part of it being a funeral parlor and then rushed off - three times! And the customers were mainly gone after the first time. Then after the third time, a manager/owner came by explaining she was exhausted after a very long day and to come back any other day and she’d be happy to talk to us. Just our poor luck I guess, although we never asked her at all and I have no idea why our server who had lots of energy, couldn’t finish a thought? But while it was just bad timing I suppose (and we weren’t looking for a lecture - just a few anecdotes on a very slow evening), it was definitely disappointing and the food was okay, (the salmon was very good, but the beef tips were okay - larger slabs instead of tips). We aren’t planning another trip to Boston so we’ll miss her anecdotes, but probably wouldn’t return in a city rich with history and great food. We are happy we tried it though.

We stopped for dinner and the food was solidly mediocre. We had a weird experience, arrived and was sat at a table with a considerable amount of pancake syrup on it. We pointed out that the table was dirty and our waitress said “the table is clean, we just can’t get the syrup off”. Th place was pretty empty, so we walked around looking for a clean table and almost every one was dirty, even though we were reassured they were clean and that had place settings on them. We chose the most clean table we could find, and even that was a touch sticky, so we wiped it down ourselves with a wet napkin. The fact that the staff feels like syrup is an insurmountable challenge and is fine leaving tables sticky was pretty disappointing.

Stopped at Amhrheins for a boiled dinner pre St Paddy’s day. Food was yummy. Restaurant was busy but not too crowded. The TVs had some basketball games on. It was a fun and lively crowd.

A real old fashioned Southie place with good food at a good price. Doyles in JP used to be the best of the old Boston places but now that its gone you have to put this place near the top of that list. No gentrification here. Just a taste of the old Southie that is rapidly being transformed to fit yuppie tastes. Try it while its still here. You won't be disappointed.

We love this place. Private free parking lot which is unheard of (say hi to George the attendant). Food was great as always. Bartender Jamie was amazing. She was so funny and nice we never went to our table, we just stayed at the bar with her. We would have stayed all day with her if we could. Perfect amount of professional, polite, quick with refills … great at her job with just a dash of Southie Sass which should be a requirement to work in Boston’s oldest restaurant. Go see Jamie if you want to have a great meal, a cold beer and a laugh.
