The Abbotsford serves wholesome pub food in one of the busiest parts of Edinburgh’s New Town. Classic pub fare is the mainstay of the menu, with dishes including beer battered haddock and chips, steak and ale pie, and haggis, neeps and tatties, and diners have the choice of dining al fresco, in the main bar, or in the restaurant. Situated at 3-5 Rose Street this is a pub beloved by diners and popular with locals and tourists alike. Edinburgh Waverley station is a five minute walk on foot, and historic Edinburgh Castle and the famous Royal Mile are a ten minute walk.

We eat here when we are visiting Edinburgh. (Four times this past year). The kitchen is always spot on and the preparation of the meals holds a consistently high level. Our service was okay on this visit. The meals were delivered and the server just left. We needed to wave down another staff member to get malt vinegar, salt and H and P sauce. They stopped carrying Cranachan so dessert forced us elsewhere.

The Abbotsford was about 50 yards from my hotel, so I decided to stop in while I was visiting Edinburgh. This was the best possible decision I could’ve made. The bar is located downstairs and it was packed with locals and tourists alike. The dining room is located upstairs. My waiter, Joseph, was absolutely fantastic. He knew everything about the food being served and made some great recommendations. He also had an extensive knowledge of beer, wine, and Scotch Whiskey being served there. The service, food, atmosphere, and the entire feel of the place is extremely top-notch! If you’re in Edinburgh, give the Abbotsford a try!

An excellent pub with separate dining area. Advisable to book a table because they are busy in the evenings. Food was superb, can thoroughly recommend the battered Haddock.

Service was excellent, food was delicious, and the restaurant is beautiful. The most amazing whiskey (Scotch) list we have ever seen in a restaurant! We would highly recommend this restaurant for date night or small groups.

Friendly and helpful staff but restaurant wasn't accessible as it was up 3 flights of stairs. Limited menu and very disappointed that there was no Sunday roast on offer.

It was a rugby weekend so I appreciate they were busy, waited close to an hour for our food, which was basic when it arrived - it was what we expected so we weren't 'disappointed' in that sense, but I wouldn't go back to eat.

Had burns supper there last week with 3 friends. We all really enjoyed it, of course we had the haggis. Good portion size, well presented and the whisky sauce was delicious. The food came quickly and the staff were friendly and attentive. Based on this experience I wouldn't mind going back again to try out what else is on the menu.

We arrived 10 minutes early for a 12:00 lunch reservation but were not allowed into restaurant. The waiter could have been a bit more welcoming however was polite and food arrived reasonably quick after ordering and was very fresh and overall very good. Overall our first experience at the Abbotsford was very good.

Good food with very good service, but staff were under pressure due to the numbers of diners and we had a wait some time to initially order drinks after being seated. Another member of staff would have been a great help as drinks were all orders and brought up from the bar downstairs.

Fantastic service to begin with, the male waiter in particular was a great character, charming and polite with a great Scottish mannerism. Food was fantastic and proper grub that keeps you going for the evening. Relaxing atmosphere and decor albeit with a busy pub below so a little noise but nothing to put you off visiting.

Totally awful experience. While we were eating our meal 2 mice under the table next to us. Moving around in and out. Awful. I said to waitor and he asked if I wanted to move tables. We did not move. Could not finish my dinner felt sick. Paid for meal and left as quick as possible. This place should be closed down.
